I see the decision to allow under 17 under 18 under 23 reserves any-old-Tom and Dick or Harry clubs into the Checkatrade Trophy is a rip-roaring success. Sunderland's enthusiasm was clear for all to say when THREE fans made the journey to cheer them on in last night's match against Grimsby.

A crowd of under 250 too. Grimsby can't have made any money on that at all. Infact they probably made a bit of a loss.
Reading u21s had a 29 year old Romanian international play and score for them the other night. How does that help the English national team? I thought that was why B teams were included?
No doubt Scattletramp will turn up in a minute defending the competiton.

On Facebook I saw a video of Stewards at the Ricoh having arguments with and forcing Coventry fans to sit in the right seats, seems a bit excessive for a crowd of 1,200 in a 32,000 stadium.
The crowds are even smaller than they were before but I suppose any on the day losses are covered by the bribe/prize money on offer. Would be easier/cheaper to just play the games behind close doors.

So as we finished second, it means we are away in the next round, unless we draw West Ham Under 21's, then we'll be at home...
Oh and the draw is being made tomorrow even though the tables are not complete yet.

That’s annoying, I rather liked the idea of watching us play at the London Stadium 😃

No use in me commenting, with over 200 posts on a subject you have no interest in,you are without doubt the worlds leading expert on the Checkatrade Trophy.

To be fair you called me a C**t once when I suggested I was more up for oxford v Swindon in the jpt then oxford v Luton in the league. So practice what you preach.

I see that 12 out of the 16 academy sides failed to get out of the group stage again this year (may end up being 13, as Chelsea need a win at Exeter inside 90 minutes to go through.....a game that isn't taking place until the 28th because the competition is so tinpot they can't get the PL sides to agree on a consistent timetable).
Quite apart from the fact that lower league teams hate it, I'm really, really struggling to see what the PL sides are getting out of it either. How much benefit are they really seeing from their academy kids struggling through three games against League One and Two squad players?
