5-0. They're too aggressive for us. We can't compete with them don't under. They are very aggressive - Starc and Cummins are very fast compared to our bowlers. Lyon is a better bowler than Moeen and Hazelwood better than our third/ forth seamers. Take Smith out and they are not a very good batting side. But Smith was by far the best batsman in the match. Adelaide is huge in trying to avoid a 5-0

Our bowlers are more suited to English conditions, Australia on tour is more about pure pace whereas we have two ageing seam bowlers (and Stokes sat at home while a police force milk the publicity).
We are going to have to bat a lot better to get anything, we need runs on the board to at least put some pressure on, are bowling won't do much against a side who only need 300 from a first innings and less from a second.
In terms of the series it's going to be very hard to win it now, but it's a bit early to call 5-0, I still think we can make it competitive.

Smith's innings is the difference between the teams. 50s as always from the English batsmen, where are the tons? The team has to bat better higher up.

Smith's innings and a bowling attack that scares our lower order and can get through the top and middle order too. Naive to think it's one person's innings that's the difference. It'll get worse on faster pitches too.

Getting thrashed because a) We didn't score as many as we should have from a strong position in the 1st innings, and b) We didn't finish them off when we had them in big trouble in their first innings. And Smith of course.
They added 120 from being 7 down; we didn't score 100 from our last five wickets in the two innings combined.
Aussies have the pace to demolish lower order batsmen, and a highly skilled spinner; We don't. And unfortunately that's not going to change unless Starc & Cummins keel over during the series.

Barring a miracle, England will get beat later today (tomorrow our time) which really does suck considering that it was honours even for three days. It came down to Day 4 and an inability to bat three second inning sessions has ended this one.
However, I do think this has been finer margins than the Test makes out. If Vince had converted his 83 into a 100, if Moeen had been 100% fit, if Smith had just nicked one towards the end of Day 2, if Overton had played instead of the insipid Ball?
Probably wouldnβt have made much difference! The Aussies do have a proper pace attack that intimidated lower order batsmen and our only real thread of that is injured (Finn) or at home (Plunkett).
Whilst a defeat will hurt, thereβs been more to cheer here than the sense-of-whatβs-to-come 381 run defeat we had in Brisbane last time.

Such is life though. The muddled thinking for the past couple of years in the England middle order has not helped this year. The next test could however suit us down to the ground. All to play for.

Watching Jake Ball wetting himself in the face of the Aussie quicks was reminiscent of Phil Tufnell in the West Indies!

While they are all aggressive, we know their quicks are fragile so are going to go out all guns blazing to get them in a good position early doors. It won't be easy to win there but both sides are incredibly flawed - I watched some of the series in Bangladesh and India and the Aussies were absolutely useless. It sounds easy from here, but we have to roll with their aggression and not cower from it.

All of this nonsense about Bairstow.
It sounds like it was just a bit of a joke and something that Bairstow does (Ok a little strange)
I just can't believe that this story seems to be filling all of the papers inches and is getting quite so much press. Fair play Bancroft for making such a joke about it.

Much ado about nothing. Just makes good Pommie bashing press down under and another excuse for them to say England are bottling it.
Supposedly Strauss went ape-shit behind closed doors at the squad

That's because he's on the plane Michael. Duh! Stokes has allegedly gone to New Zealand to 'practice and spend time with his family' Mmm. I guess that if the police drop charges Stokes will be straight over to Australia. How we need him.

It does tend to suggest that the case is going well with the fact the suspect will be out of the country. Let's see what happens. If he does get to Oz and play, I suspect Stokes will be on an absolute tear to shut people up.

Should of been able to play until he was found guilty, no one else loses a job before that so don't see why he should of.

Not only can you not leave the country when England are playing, you have to report to your local plod on match days. So if you happen to work abroad, you would have to return to England every time that England played,so yes,you would probably lose your job. P.S. Stokes is on a central contract,so he gets paid whether he plays or not,so he has not lost his job.

Supposedly Strauss went ape-shit behind closed doors at the squad Justifiably tbf, especially after what happened in Bristol and Bairstow was warned about his conduct following that as he was out that night as well.. The Aussies are bloody clever in the way the've used considering it happened weeks ago just after the squad landed in Aus.. The've sat on it waiting for this moment.. Let's just hope the pink ball does plenty in Adelaide as we are in trouble if it doesn't!

So the ECB's answer it to ban drinking and impose a curfew. 3 Months in a hotel, what are the players supposed to do ? Did you know that Ian Botham refused to stay in a hotel the last two times he toured Aus ? He rented a villa in everyone of the Cities where England played and flew his family out to stay for Xmas. On the Sunday of each test,he held a massive barbie and invited all the players of both sides (except the Chappel's !) to a massive p*ss up at his gaffe ! Didn't seem to do SIR Ian Botham any harm. P.S. It should be a compulsory knighthood for headbutting an Aussie.

No curfew or ban on booze is needed..
What's needed is for the players to grow up and start acting with a little bit of responsibility..
Is that to much to ask for?
Next you'll be telling me that Stokes was fully entitled to knock seven shits out that lad in Bristol?

It's even more frustrating for Strauss and Bayliss as they've tried to move the conversation along about the drinking culture in the English team, but stuff like this keeps happening. I suspect this maybe the final straw and they'll have to treat the players like kids for a while.
