I have only just realised that there is no highlights show on free TV in the UK! Very disappointing, you have to watch them on the BT sport's website (free).

Ridiculous decision by (I am assuming) the ECB. No terrestrial coverage of the biggest overseas fixtures, when the matches are at an unwatchable time for most. They take every penny now but won't have a sport to run in the future with out giving access to new supporters, cricket casuals and the wider public.

Made all the more ridiculous when the ECB was trumpeting that terrestrial TV had won a few T20 internationals in the coming years. Big whoop.

Poor season by England. Around 75-100 light i'd say.
Need a few early wickets otherwise we could be in a lot of trouble...

Wasn't the deal done with Cricket Australia? Correct, CA had the broadcasting rights, I read it on the ECB website after writing the post.

Each to their own. It's a flat pitch with very few demons. How many England players got a good ball to get out to vs how many played poor shots..
Getting smith out is easier said than done!

It sounded like Malan was the pivot for the wickets playing a bit of a daft shot, but they didn't bat much better did they? The first hour will be fascinating on that pitch. It seems Adele is to blame for it as well.

Good tactics from England with Khawaja being useless against spin as well. Clearly a lot of work has gone in to working on the weaknesses of each of their batsmen

Poised, I'd say.
Next session is crucial - get a couple of wickets and we could have a first innings lead; would then be in a great position to heap pressure on the Aussies when they bat last. Another few hours of Smith & Marsh, and they could built a sizable lead, which will be trouble with their decent attack.
Good game so far, even if it is a bit stodgy

The Aussis were in deep trouble and I am really pleased that the end of the day came when it did. We desperately need a couple of quick wickets and the new ball is due in what 8 overs or so. Slightly worrying that the lower order folded to a barrage of short pitched bowling when the pitch is pretty slow.

I've just remembered that I dreamt England were all out for 307 last night. Wasn't far off.
The first session will be crucial tonight. If Broad can do a Broad...

When I saw the headlines on the BBC website, I thought the Aussies had scored 400+. Then I saw the scorecard and saw it wasn't that bad. They need to stop being so bloody negative

Cook suddenly struggling now that he hasnt got the security of the captaincy to stop him being dropped ... hopefully all five games will be this tight (though won't help my sleep quota)

Cook's form on tour has been poor. He's the one batsmen that has had little form, everyone else has looked ok.

So ....
The first hour as usual is critical. Stoneman and Root need to get runs.
I must admit that my fears (they have a better attack than us) looks right. Maybe one of their fast bowlers will break down.
They are not a great side but Smith, Starc, Cummins, Hazelwood and Lyon look a top combination ...

Let's see how they get on now the ball has softened and the pitch will slow down. Gonna be hard work for both sides I feel

I just hope that England can do a Smith and play sensible, controlled and aim to bat for all three sessions today. Manage that and they may well be in a position to at least not lose the Test.
Anything less than a 250 lead, I think the Aussies will chase it down even when batting in the fourth innings.

It's been quite a slow game, and yet Jake Ball went at 4.3 an over - no other bowler in the whole game has gone over 2.8, so any pressure being built up by the other guys is just being released by the Aussies scoring so freely off Ball. Their attack doesn't have that weak link, making things much more difficult for our batters when it's so tight and accurate from both ends. To me Plunkett should have been out there, he's a yard quicker than Ball, can bowl a proper bouncer unlike the rest of our attack and is also not too shabby with the bat.
Now watch as we set them 200 to win and Ball takes a 7-fer to win the game!

Here we go. I’ll take 200 if we can get it. Highest to win in the 4th innings is 236.
