Thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and took my little 7yo boy who's seen us win 2-0, 3-0 and now 4-1! I thought the team looked really strong from the off and was miffed we were 1-0 down after 15minutes. We definitely earned the right to play after settling down, being strong in the challenge and first to many balls. There'll be many more ups and downs but it's days like these that really restore lost faith. A bonus too was just being home in an hour (to north Essex).

What did Faz get sent to the stand for? Throwing a bottle into the air! Unfortunately he's not a cricketer and it went into the crowd....

My take on the goals of how w they were shown in goal rush, Josh Ruffels goal a very well taken header, Jow Rothwell his goal was a well placed shot, Agon in the right place at the right time which we have missed quite a lot easier n recent seasons but for me Wes Thomas goal was the best how he run through the defence and placed his shot perfectly.

Don't think so. It was a good pass and a well-timed run. It was a close one, personally I thought he was just off but we should have been tighter to him anyway. I don't think the AR was in a position to give a decision as the ball was played through quite quickly.

He used to Park his old Humber in one of the streets and tie us together like elephants for the walk to the turnstyles
In 72 we went to watch Oxford at the county ground, but lost 4-0... a chap called "carthorse" scored a hat trick, Don Rogers was brilliant and Nigel Cassidy was playing for the U's... cant remember how he played but I would imagine it wasn't very good.
Happy days.

Indeed. Stop fannying around like we've done for the last seven halves, suddenly look the business again. Not a complicated game, is it? Thanks. You are my favourite poster. Did you go? I watched the game. Have you a point?

Yes, was trying to understand how someone could have watched same game yet seen such a different first half to me. I assumed you couldn't have been there. Your reply helps, it's ambiguous... so I guess 'you watched' the game on Goal Rush. Like I said... insightful.

He also (as I was begging for) made some strong statements with team selection, leaving out Williamson and ledson. Saved by the wisdom of Charlie once again!!! I was talking to Steve Perryman once who said "there's this guy sits near me who knows everything about football. He used to get 20 quid a game too!! Ledge!!!"

First half we were poor, second half extremely good, addressed all of the failings of the first half and beyond. Don't think we'd've scored if the first half was still on-going. The half-time Pep-talk on this occasion, was magnificent. I'm not a troll, not a Pep-knocker, but I just do expect some learnings from abject defeats.

One might think high flying Peterborough were terrible having lost by 3 clear goals at home but they were not, heads went down after the third but they had their chances in for the most part, a very open and most enjoyable game. Most noticeable for me was the tangible difference in shape at the back with Ribeiro having an excellent 75 minutes stifling his opponent and getting forward when he could. Great round of applause when he came off and a smart move by Pep to put some fresh legs on to try and protect the advantage. Rothwell I thought was very good as was Payne, neither of them stopped and ran Shrews into the ground. Henry was excellent. Second half we did what we had to, rode our luck at times and threw caution to the wind and really went for it, as confidence grew throughout the whole team it was quite palpable and the win was just deserts. A very good team performance with everyone (including the Oxford fans) playing their part. A very good day at the office and lets hope we can gain momentum from this and recover some consistency. One of my Party, must remain nameless in case his wife reads and this who is a closet Posh fan clean up with the bookies big time by default he had a £2 win £2 correct score double Fleetwood 1 Charlton 3 and Peterborough 1 Oxford 4.. he meant to do the Peterborough win but cocked up. The Milky bars are on him tonight...yeeaaahh. Got to be williammuir, he’s a professional gambler u know Nah. He’s a Sw*ndon fan.

Excellent result! Wonder if this thread will get to 19 pages like the Bury one? No probably not, but that is the nature of footie fans,. You'll always get more posts on a shocking defeat thread, than a good win thread. At least in my moan on the Bury thread I said I thought Ruffels should start!! Also, there wasn't as many of us there to truly comment, we virtually played the team most of us were saying to play, and stopped accommodating THREE central defenders.

If Rob is out for a few weeks I think Pep may favour Rothwell on the left with Henry moving to the right. Thought that was the best he has played in that position for us yesterday but most times he is ineffective there. Next week we will not have a choice with Gino away. Josh and Ryan is a good solid midfield and Josh is a great attacking threat now as well so maybe Joe has to learn to play out wide to get in the first 11 each week.

A few observations...
• Better first half although still quite a lot of unnecessary errors. Henry in particular struggling to win balls or make even simple passes. Some hecklers stood around us really went to town on him. Bit too much really, but maybe it had an affect? • Open 2nd halves suit our style of play, tight first halves do not. Think that apart from MK and Oldham all our goals come in 2nd half. Think apart from Bury our problem has been 1st half goals conceded. • Thomas worked his socks off all game. No lack of desire from him. • However, at half time it was difficult to see where the goals would come from, other than aforementioned 2nd half goal statistics. Our Posh friend wondered if they'd put something in the tea such was the transformation. • Nelson brilliant and clearing up here, there and everywhere. Don't really remember Mous at all. Guess that means he had a solid game? • Goals change games and that one from Ruffles really lifted everyone. • Good game from Ribs. We did look more balanced at the back, and he got quite far forward several times. • Losing Hall was perhaps a blessing in disguise. Everyone else had to up their game and battle hard. Ledson was excellent when he came on. Rothwell, Ledson, Ruffels and Payne earnt us the right to play some football. Shame Payne forgot his scoring boots. • It has to be said that Eastwood saved our bacon several times, although his distribution when kicking out was sometimes poor and to no one. • Agon looks like he has some potential. Has a nice touch and a little bit of flair. He absolutely loved the attention from the fans while warming up. He's quite a big lad as well. Can win aerial challenges. • Nice selection of Ales in Charters.
Overall a huge amount of desire from the lads to win. Clearly we have improvements to make and we will have defeats along the way but what we DON'T have is a team that cannot compete at this level, or a team that don't want it because they're too old or don't care enough, or a team led by a poor manager. All those things had been going through our minds.
Remaining questions include:
Can we cut out first half errors? Can we show some consistency? Can we keep Obika and Thomas and Ribs fit and on the pitch? Hope Hall is back soon?
A tough series of games to come against teams around us or above us, apart from Wimbledon who are just annoying.

What a good game that was yesterday when we went 1-0 down i think we all feared the worst but as the first half went on we got more and more threatening and should have been level at the break. Second half was a different story as we ripped them apart on the break, yes they had chances but I think if you play like we do you will always give the opposition a chance or two. Some good performances all round but Jack Payne was outstanding also Josh Ruffles makes a big difference in our midfield. COYY

I reckon the voiceover bloke for our game was a Peterborough fan as he was very begrudging in giving us any credit whilst blaming the defending.

Ribs had more tape on his knee yesterday than was thrown out of the city windows on VE day so he obviously has long term discomfort there.
I would prefer to see them both 100 % against the wombles.

What a result, I must admit I was just waiting for the second killer goal to go in.
It's amazing how supporting OUFC can either completely ruin your week end to feeling great wanting to read every match report I can find on a Sunday morning.
Shows we have real strength of character in the squad and everyone believes in what Pep is trying to implement. Worth remembering moments like this throughout the season........in Pep we trust!!!!

Just a quick couple of observations, no time to do anything more detailed... (Being worked like a dog at the minute)
- How the hell does a straight ball carve us open? That's a worry. Fair enough if it comes from a wide area, or into the channels, but that's a straight as an arrow. Eastwood makes a mistake here too - overcommits. Perhaps he still would have scored if he didn't, so perhaps calling it a mistake is harsh, but he could have made it a lot harder for their striker. - Ruffel's header - the marking is so bad it's funny. Pause at 0.44 to have a good laugh at the Posh players marking each other! - For the third, big shout to Thomas who saw the run of Rothwell behind him and made the decoy run, takes two players out the game.

I suspect that this is the critical factor. According to their own version of accounts, Payne - instead of being man-marked - was accorded the freedom of the parish, as was the case in the opening two games of the season. He's very good in that situation. I read before the game that McCann had said something about just playing their own game and not thinking about us. I loved hearing it, but it's sackable incompetence! Surely any scout worth half a pinch of salt would have told him that if you take our lads on in a genuine game of football with both sides just trying to play their preferred system, we are a match for anyone. But if you stick a man on Payne and press high with a nasty physical game, we have been struggling badly. Here's hoping that AFC Wimbledon decide to play a nice, open attacking game with no man-markers. Errrr........

I wasn't there Jerome but understand that the Peterborough goal came from a ball that held up in the wind, doesn't excuse poor defending/anticipation but might explain partly why it happened. Same as with Wes Thomas' goal, it looked as if their central defender and keeper should've got to the ball before Thomas.

Same as with Wes Thomas' goal, it looked as if their central defender and keeper should've got to the ball before Thomas. I was pretty much in line with the ball for their goal, and it was freakish the way it held up. It was a combination of the wind and the deadness of the pitch. We'd noticed before then that there was pretty much no bounce in the pitch in places, and it seemed as if this was no accident, and that Peterborough were using it as a tactic. It was clear that our defenders expected the ball to bounce and carry through to Simon Eastwood. Having said that, we were too square when their lad ran through to score.
