A 50/50 split on the gate would make it a good day despite the result

Think that's why it's good to get a mix of opposition in preseason. Couple of big draws at home an 1 or two similar level or below away. Only about fitness mostly and we have done ok against championship teams, but maybe a win against a Lincoln side going into sat would have given a bit of confidence, especially for our strikers that thrive on confidence . Anyway, it been a long strange old preseason. Highs, lows, differences of opinion and levels of concern. But the football seasons back and before long we will all be sat freezing our bollocks off doing what we all love . Don't know about that! I'll be going to the footy!

Some good touches from Carrol, and quite strong in defence and midfield. it really did show though that we need a confident striker up front, with experience, someone who will get in amongst division 1 defences and receive crosses from Johnston and Hall.
We're not going to face any teams with the strength of Leeds, but we need a much higher percentage of chances created and converted in relation to how much possession we had in the top third of the field.

It looked like Canice was dumped on his backside by Roofe for the first ? He too is not the answer at left back but he looks a very good prospect - a very confident young man.

He currently offers some lovely quality mixed with mistakes. Just what you'd Expect from such a young player. However, he's a great prospect and expect him to become a very effective midfielder for us. Exciting times ahead.

Could he not do a job at left back? I'm not sure that he will get in any other position and he does not seem to have an obvious position (I know that MAPP saw him as a holding midfield player but he isn't going to get in ahead of Ledson)

Tough match in which we played our part. Much better performance than in the Birmingham fixture. Keeper and defence looked strong. They didn't get any joy diwn our right flank with Ribeiro & Nelson shutting down crosses well. Assume Williamson will start next week if he remains fit after his first outing. Candice is learning and a real prospect. They tried hard to exploit our left fkank but only got away a few times. Ledson put in 110 percent even got a few shots off. Both Johnson And Hall showed what a threat they are going forward. But, We will need to covert more of our chances if we are to have a successful season. Personally think we would benefit from a physical, mature midfielder to help bring experience into our side. Also a proven striker, who can occupy / disrupt defences would also compliment our numerous poachers. Very close to a top division 1 side. Assume manager will be generally pleased

Been to Elland Rd today..... The team was almost unrecognisable with so many new players and not yet knowing their strengths (or weaknesses), Eastwood was commanding an pulled off a great block / save in the 2nd half, all four across the back were consistent without any thrills, Henry looked as though he will be main player for us, Ledson does what he does, the ugly bits, Robbie Hall looked fit which is a major boost and Marvin wanted the ball at every opportunity looked to get behind his man every time. Ruffles is still work in progress, Carrol tended to tuck in rather than stay at left back in the first half, more aware of his position in the 2nd period, Obika didn't get anything to build on mainly as he had no partner which will change for league games as we must have two up front, then the mass of changes happened which on reflection did nothing to improve our play which could be worrying, Tindialli, poor, Raglan, Ladrero and Martin were not as assured as the players they replaced, Narsingh??, Rothwell, is it just me who thinks he is not the player we hoped for, he runs into trouble, stray passes and rushed when he has time, I worry about him. Fernandez obviously has talent with time on the ball, Payne was energetic and tried to force the game which was a positive and Wes Thomas showed power and strength who will cause league 1 defenders all sorts of problems.... Overall a decent work out, however I do agree that we could have done with playing a lower league team in pre season where we could have scored 4 or 5 goals and put some confidence in the strikers lockers.. If I was picking the team for the Oldham match next Saturday it would certainly be closer to the 11 that started rather than the 11 that finished at Elland Rd this afternoon...

I cant think of anyone better in that position at the moment. He Ribeiro and Nelson were excellent.
I'm sure there must have been more Oxford fans there than 314 though ??
I'm very optimistic about this season, not too concerned about the lack of scoring opportunities especially against defenders much better than we will probably encounter in the weeks ahead.

I agree. I have never rated Rothwell. A totally nondescript player.

Rothwell will be one of those players who never gets a run of game in his natural position, leaves and then rips it up somewhere else. He gets shoved out onto the wings here or made to play a deeper midfield role, when he's a CM who needs license to bomb on or someone who actually prefers playing at 10. I had hoped with Appleton leaving and even Lundstram being sold that he might finally see his time come but I just don't think it's ever going to happen.
The guy runs as quickly with the ball as he does without it and can glide past three players without even lifting his head up. That is an unbelievably rare trait.

I agree - he's a joy to watch when running with the ball. He's like a Rolls Royce. He does have an annoying tendency to give the ball away which is not a great trait to have when playing centre mid. If he can work on his short passing game and improve his pressing then we have a top notch player on our hands.

Indeed, however Lennon, Sterling, Walcott & Wright -Phillips used to do that and sadly the end product was invariably lacking, they didn't do so bad though !
Saying that he must have reasonable confidence in his ability, to turn down a renewed contract from the Red Devils to join us.
Personally I think his performances are limited currently but can be developed... after all he's an international quality player, albeit at up to U20 Level.
He needs to do the simple things well and consistently as part of the team and not as an individual.
I would put him where he wants to play and tell him to go out and enjoy himself because he seems to be stifled at the moment.
Still hopeful he will come through.

What was the formation? 4231 or 4411? I think it was supposed to be 4231 but Leeds turned it into a 4411 and at times a 451.
I do like the look of the Right Flank though Ribeiro, Ledson and Hall.. Good footballers the three of them with Nelson to cover when Ribeiro can get forward ..
I think we can have some success from that triangle of players.
And if we persist with Carrol at LB or even LWB where he will be very effective I feel. Certainly we don't need to worry about defending that LB berth when he goes forward and he's mobile enough to get back when play breaks down.
When he settled into it Saturday I think he quite enjoyed himself.
