It is pretty abysmal IMHO. They must have a massive customer database but don`t seem to use it. There are little/no promotions to large local employers. I would rather see seats full of "Kids for a £1" than 5,000 empty ones! Discuss.

Things could clearly be improved.
But to be fair the attendances last season were the best since 1986/7?
With regard to seeing seats full, even if you gave tickets away it doesn't guarantee that there would be a full house. I guess getting the balance between getting as high attendances as possible but trying to not grow the huge debts is the issue.
Personally I would not have increased ST prices as much and tried to have driven additional sales. I would think that the support from the business community is as good as it has ever been (but stand to be corrected), although there is always room for improvement.
In reality I guess that what drives businesses getting involved and people turning up is a successful team on the pitch- here's hoping

Improving the Marketing & Promotion significantly would entail hiring experienced staff and giving them a pot of cash to invest in various activities. Whilst costs would increase, income should also improve. However, as an upper L1 club, I think there is a ceiling at what additional revenue we could realistically generate - I'd be surprised if we covered all of the additional outlay.

Regulars have to watch their language, and more often than not listen to "plastic fans" chatting about anything other than the game. A successful team will bring out the true fans - those who have fallen out of love with the club when we were on our "journey", and also those who live further away, can't justify a season ticket, but will be more inclined to go to games if we are winning. Success breeds growth, which enables more success, as has been the case in the last few years.

20.000 + potential customers were interested enough for a mickey mouse competition
Regulers were interested enough for a day out at Boro yet when the 2 top teams of the league came calling and we still had a shout of a play off place they appeared not to bother.
Against all this if people are not turning up to watch when reports are of the best football for years then why will they do so when the price has gone up.
sitting back expecting folk to just turn up when the leisure pound is already stretched is lazy

Which is why the ox4life packages were a great idea. Ok so the club might have lost a bit on the kids prices, but it gets them hooked, it also means they then bring an adult or two along with them paying full price. Who then want a program, and merchandise from the shop, who then tell their mates who do the same. Whacking the prices up and swapping the shirt for a scarf is a major own goal by the club imo.

The 20k+ will be made up in part of people who come to 5-10 games a season, but can't get a season ticket because they don't have the time, live far away, etc. or don't want one.

I think that's an opinion we'd like to think would happen, but very rarly does. The ox4life idea was fantastic and sustainable if your making profit elsewhere. The problem was it got too big too early. If I'm correct the first season they sold around 95 packages, last season, over 400! £60 for a junior season ticket is fantastic, but to also add in a shirt was unbelievable. The club probably missed out on a lot of shirt sales because of it.

But there's also a good chance that quite a few of those 400 brought a parent along at full price that wouldn't have become a season ticket holder otherwise ?

I think the fact is though, they wouldn't have scrapped it if they weren't losing a lot of money.

Not so sure on that one. They haven't scrapped it, they have just whacked the price up and cut the package. Same in the lounges. It's the simple option to just increase prices. When there was a prime opportunity for some clever marketing that could have increased crowds and brought in the same funds. As the song say children are the future. I think even schemes like kids for a £1 or free school tickets are worth it, u may lose revenue in the short term, but your basically attracting fans to what would largely otherwise be empty seats, and getting a whole new generation hooked while increasing sales in merchandise

Bare in mind I'm talking about ox4life. All they've really done is stop giving away a free shirt. But they get a scarf.

But they have whacked up the prices - just for example if I want to start taking my 4 year old along in the lounge this season an under 7 will be charged £325. Now I fully appreciate that I can move but that's crazy money clearly just to try and free up the expensive seats for full adult price

I have been saying for donkeys years that kids shirts should be £15 at the most. A much smaller profit but playing the way we have for the last 2 and a half seasons every kid in the area should've wanted one.

I think my kids ones went up a tenner each, which is still value for money. Leave the prawn sandwiches behind and come and join us in the east stand!! 😀

Na they have they horrible restricted view seats behind flags, and you have to stand and sing rather than sit and clap 😉 oh for a prawn sandwich though, that would make it a bit more bearable if u got to feed the 4 year old that's paying more than an east stand adult

Surely no one is surprised at this. Who do you think will do the marketing?
When will people get it: there are very few staff at the club. We can't expect MB, CW, PRB or the ticket office people to do marketing.
A sorry state of affairs.

As for the free tickets, we have done that and just get free loaders, people not interested or people abusing the offer. Keep winning and the crowds will increase.

Possibly although we done well last season and crowds at the same point are currently down. I also disagree on what gets u hooked, I think it's the going along with family and the experience not where u sit, how many of us that stood on London Rd started of with family in the beach Rd or osler Rd first. And having sat in both the east stand and ssl, u can't compare how much of the game u can actually see from the ssu. No matter how well ur doing the club should always be trying new things, incentives/rewards it sometimes takes a little bit of a push to get people along. For example you don't go out for a meal every week, but if a £5 off voucher comes through ur door u think ohh shall we go for a meal

I could almost break this down game by game....... Last nights friendly..... comms from the Club encouraging me , as a ST holder to come along, none, nothing nada.
When they were aware of barely a 2k crowd then why not e-mail ST holders & say "Thanks you for buying a ST, you can come for free & bring another adult for £5 or kids for £1". This day an age smart marketing can be done so well its ridiculous. I would compare it with my Leicester Tigers experience having been to a couple of "cheap" games promoted through work, I now get regular e-mails about tickets, offers, Season Ticket launch etc etc. Tigers are pretty much full for every game..........an empty seat earns you nothing.

I got an email from the club about six days ago titled 'Carabao Cup Tickets and Pre-Season Friendlies' which gave details. It's a fine line between letting people know stuff is on and badgering them. In this case though I think you are right. An email a couple of days before (perhaps offering a discount price if you booked for both the Brentford and Brum matches) pointing out the chance to see new players, see Pep's first game officially in charge, etc might have pushed me into turning up.

I used to get texts from the club advertising games. This seems to of stop? I would say these days text messages are a lot more effective than an email.

I`ve reviewd my e-mails.... I got the Carabao Cup one.
Based on roughly fortnightly home games it wouldn`t be badgering to run one "Pre-season friendlies....ST Holders Free" followed by a "Caraboa Cup tickets on sale"separately. Maybe its just me!!

Well the club better pull their fingers out quickly as MK Dons are proactively marketing themselves in Oxfordshire as this picture from Thame's local paper shows: (Picture by @simonmunday65 on Twitter)

That MK advert is quite depressing isn't it? But fair play to them.
I'm a lapsed season ticket holder. Not lived in Ox for 20 years, was abroad for 6 months last year, now have a family - so have plenty of excuses!
But I had a season ticket 2 seasons ago. From a purely marketing / BD perspective it is pretty poor that I've never been contacted re why I lapsed. Not expecting a PR call from the owner or player that has happened previously but no contact?
I'm thinking of unsubscribing from the generic emails I get because they just regurgitate everything you see on the website.

As is the case with most areas of the club, no staff. Nobody to do the work required to set up promos. No social media, no press releases.
I did get a shitty email when asking why I couldn't buy lounge tickets on line so someone does still care.
