From a professional perspective it must have been hard to listen to the hate crap before an Oxford game, from a manager with neither the respect of the players not the ability to motivate them to give a shit - the difference in the last 7 has been the will to win - there is no history, he is ours now. This is a local place for local people. Just a corner shop rather than a Wiltshire cowshed.
Dream move?

More competition up front needed - none are 20 goal men we all know that. If we are going to go up we need 100 ish goals. We meed to unearth diamonds and give them game time. Play 2 wingers like we did in the golden years, see if Robbie is good enough to mirror Marv and give this boy a run with Hemmings and Thomas playing 45 each. There you go pep,,, pop Longy/CC into LB for the friendlies against pretty decent opposition and if the Hall/Marv doesnt work out sign Wilks from Leeds www.hitc.com/en-gb/2017/07/05/should-leeds-offer-pep-clotet-chance-to-sign-mallik-wilks-on-sea/

Many had this question last year with the loss of Roofe, Hilton and O'Dowda plus it looked like Mags may leave - and we ended up scoring 100+.

If he was a Mapp target that's good enough for me. I frankly couldn't give a toss who his former employees were, he plays for us now and deserves a full welcome and our support. (ps, can I 'like' my own post?) Totally agree he said in what I've read of his interview that he'd spoken to MApp But due to MApp leaving he waited to speak to PepC before signing on the dotted line That shows me 2 things (1) He's got his head screwed on (2) PepC could be just the man we need to carry on the goodwork started by MApp Or (3) He's got a really good agent who has prepared him well for his interview.....

Welcome Jon. Very excited that you have joined our squad. I think we are very close now to having a championship winning side. In Pepe we trust Let's get out of League 1 first

Could this be the same scenario as Chey dunkley, Scum fans were saying he was faking an injury for the last few months or not trying when he did play, but if we had already had an agreement with him up by then why would he bother, I know chey was dropped by map as he knew he was off .

Some comments on the League 1 forum from some of that lot:
"I'm not going to lie, I like(d) JO a lot. Strong, good touch, good in the air and has a decent shot on him. Last season he was prone to injury and probably didn't want to play in our shambolic side but if you get him fit and healthy you have a good league 1 player. Won't break any goal scoring records but is a very good, mobile target man."
"Any Swindon fan calling Obika rubbish can be counted as bitter. But he is injured a lot of the time and as said tends to score in patches rather than consistently throughout a season."
"Definitely injury prone. One of those who is on the sidelines so often they rush back too eagerly and just end up getting injured again. On the other hand he is very good player at league 1 level when he is fit, does tend to have a habit of scoring 8 in 8 then 0 in 8 though."
It would seem like if we can get him fit and healthy, then he could be one part of what was missing from the team last season.

I thought he looked alright against us at the shithole, especially considering that the midfield behind was conference standard at best. We have needed a big, strong but mobile hold up forward for years, whether he is that man is up for debate but hopefully he can be. Obika wasn't in the squad because he was injured. 😂

I quite liked Taylor, but at times he was not strong enough and he didn't score enough. If this guy can get 12 goals and create for others as a target man and if he is big and strong (a bit of a bully that Taylor was not), then he could be very useful for us.

f*ck me Chef will be disappointed.. I will not moderate my feelings for a pimply commis who thinks he's all that because he spent a few months under Marcus Wareing and churns out the dishes at East Oxford's premier pre-match buffet. It's not easy, roader, when everybody looks up to you because of your good looks, erudition and insight (not to mention wedge), roader. Some days I wake up and I just do not want to be the next Charlie Methven.

I was under the impression that Obika was one of their better players, didn't he cost £200,000 a couple of years ago?
Surely if MAPP was still here we'd be happy with this signing?

Obika has two UEFA Cup appearances. Wonder how many Oxford players have been able to say that the've played in European competitions? Welcome Jon.

As much as I've enjoyed how much this has wound up the Swindon fans it seems an odd signing. 25 goals in 3 season is poor and isn't going to replace the goals lost by Maguire and McAleny.
The recruitment team have obviously seen something they can work with though so let's hope that we can improve his goalscoring

John Chiedozie - I remember him, didn't he join Tottenham from Orient? He also scored against us in the 1-1 draw FA Cup 3rd Round v Tottenham 85/86 - just look at that Tottenham team!

Kristaps Grebis - played in the Europa League just yesterday.
Champions League and Uefa Cup veteran. Intertoto too.
Still bangin' 'em in at 36.
Should never have let him go.

Some things never change. Strikers can only be judged on goals scored. Central defenders on their height compared to jake weight (unless left footed) which gives them a by. Right backs on the ability compared to George baldock .😃
Ryan Taylor was under valued by many on here, just because of his lack of goals. Yet hemmings scored something like 6in8 when along side Taylor, and far less when not. Matt tubbs did the same at Pompey with him. And roofe said how much easier his game was when he had Taylor creating space and supplying flick ons.
Obika by all accounts is a similar player to Taylor, but a bit more physical and scores more.
Let's see how he does in a yellow shirt before writing him off like hylton and Eastwood were when They signed.
Normal bus service has resumed

Isn't this our recruitment strategy.
Find players undervalued either through playing academy football/injury etc...give them the playing time and ability to prove themselves with regular football...sell for profit, everyone wins.
