Well Appletons been the best Oxford manager ive ever seen and I reckon we will be lucky to find someone half as good. If half as good is one play-off appearance (unsuccessful) and one trip to Wembley I think you could be right. I just hope Eales is better than Lenagan at appointing managers. Its the style of play that's the most important thing.Weve had 2 and half years of great football for the most part, last time we were playing anywhere near that was over 20 years ago.

The point about recruitment is encouraging. What about Maguire et al? I think a few of our better players were here with Mapp. As I said, time will tell. I think Eales' choice of manager will either affirm a few fears on here, or shut a few posters up. As a fan of Eales, I think he'll get the appointment right. That's a rather binary view of the situation. Do you remember Kassam's stewardship? He actually set some decent playing budgets and, when his back was against the wall and the fans were restless, he tended to pull something out of the hat. But it didn't change that there were deep problems behind the scenes. The concern is not purely about the managerial departure although it may be a focal point. The vast majority of concerned posters are engaged in the range of issues. Let's not write off the benefits of debate. The problem is, I don't believe the argument that there are 'deep problems' behind the scenes at the club which some people like to have us believe. I think we have an economically squeezed chairman who must remain prudent for the time being. Combine that with a big-money move for your manager and you've got our current situation. I love debate when it is backed up with fact. Unfortunately the only reasons I see for people's fears on here are a whisper from someone who knows someone who knows Eales' nan, or just pure speculation.

Agree with most sentiments on here, Michael has done fantastic over the last 2 and a half years, (the first 6 months were, can we say a bit inconsistent with baffling decisions). He with the close and understanding with our chairman has transform the profile of our club no end, we have been delightful to watch with our attacking play and hard to beat with our no nonsense defenders. Some of the signings for our place in the football pyramid have been nothing less than pure genius including Kemar, Maguire, Nelson, Lundstram, Ledson, Johnson and Eastwood, he also used the loan market to poach young exciting top flight prospects to play regular football during their development, again improving our play.
Michael leaves us in a much, much better place than when he took over with most of us looking upwards in what we can achieve rather than looking over our shoulders and slipping back to mediocrity.
Looking ahead, again with most posters on the forum in agreement, we are a good proposition for any up and coming manager to improve themselves and show the footballing world what they can achieve or evenan established manager with already made contacts to hit the ground running.
As with all recruitment, Darryl needs to act fairly quickly and wisely as pre season will come to an end shortly and we do not want to be left behind on missing out on good available players instead of ending up with what is left..
Good luck Michael, you have made a massive difference and have made our fantastic club and all of our supporters proud again.
All that is left for me to say is players come and go, managers come and go, chairman come and go, however we as fans who love the club and stick together come thick and thin and during success and set backs, this is certainly a set back and we must come back stronger.
The Lincoln Yellow.....

And perhaps his statement thanking DE for his support may quash a few of those ill-advised vitriolic comments from some on this forum. Or "squash", according to the press release 😂😂😂

It is my understanding having spoken to a contact in the Leicester media that it has been the OUFC side that has delayed this annoucement for the majority of the day. Wonder if there has been a bit of back and forth regarding the wording of the statements from DE and MApp. Given the rumours circulating about DE possibly being the antichrist I'm not surprised. The statement had to be 'right' and I guess the one issued is from a PR point of view.

All the very best Michael for the future, quite sure your'll succeed, you are obviously very good at bringing players on and development - some of the comments on this forum have been quite frankly embarrassing, taking the mickey out of the best chairmen we have EVER had by some is simply unbelievable but that's football fans for you, we move on, onwards and upwards COYY's

Do we believe MApp when he says that there were no issues with the playing budget, and ME when he talks of their friendship? It certainty goes against 90% of the posts over the last few days. Have those 90% of posters actually spoken to MApp though? I'll take a guess.

Let's hope so. Why would Appleton say that if he's out of the door with nothing to gain? Thanks MApp. Here's to the future, I'm sure it will be bright. What else would he say? What else does anyone ever leaving say? That was very specific though. He specifically said it was nothing to do with his budget. And Eales also said we have funds to strengthen the squad. And implied we're looking outside the club for a replacement. But yeah, he's lying, I get it.

Seems very odd for people to be questioning the statement from MApp regarding DE. If he was p*ssed off at him it is surely more likely that he wouldn't say anything at all about the financial situation, an he would be minimal about DE. Instead he has singled him out for special thanks, called him 'unfailingly supportive', and directly addressed 'ill-informed speculation' about the playing budget. I see absolutely no reason not to believe that stuff, MApp was always principled and spoke well, so I see that as a pretty firm signal to the Oxford fans.

Good luck to MApp I hope he has success at Leicester. Now we'll get rumours about rumours, most of which will be bollocks.

Well, I'm glad that is all over and done with. Sad to see MAPP go as he is clearly a manager who is on the up in football, but equally the king is dead, long live the king. No one is indispensable. As a club we're in a much better place now that we were 3 years ago, so anyone who has a downer on the club at the moment clearly needs a breath and a reality check.
It is damned annoying to lose a good manager, but if he wasn't as committed this season because his head had been turned (a natural thing), then he's better off somewhere he can be happy. The fact he has been rumoured to be in for other jobs suggests he was.
Wish him all the best.
ps. Having worked with PR/Marketing people in a few jobs, statements are quoted when the person quoted didn't say anything. Not unusual or sinister, just how the gig can work.

What else would he say? What else does anyone ever leaving say? Most would have not said what MAPP said. He actually didn't have to say anything. Or he could simply have said that he enjoyed his time at Oxford and thank you to DE, the players and supporters. He most certainly did not have to state that DE backed him financially and the reason that he left was nothing to do with the budget. I really don't think that MAPP is the kind of person to lie when he certainly didn't have to.

I echo all of the thanks to MAPP.
We have played some fantastic football in the past couple of years. Loads and loads of memories and some players I have really enjoyed watching.
And to be honest a manager that I felt we could be proud of. No chippyness. No Rostler style haranguing of the forth official, no DiCanio histrionics. Just a decent man who clearly was an excellent man manager and excellent coach. His football teams always played football the right way.

When I have had to part company with senior staff, I have regularly prepared a statement that suits me and my company but makes them look good, too. I will link their endorsement to said statement to the settlement. Remember, MApp needed us to agree to let him break his contract, DE held nearly all the cards.
Of course, they might be his words. I just don't think they are, but that's just my opinion.

If MApp had given the usual bog standard bland statement that most do when leaving the forum would have gone into meltdown saying that it proved there was a problem etc etc. He goes out of his way to rubbish most of the rumours on here and most of our regular posters disappear whilst a few say that this also proves there was a problem.
And you wonder why DE doesn't give more statements? Every word gets twisted to meet the agenda of others.
But then what do I know?!

I'm very disappointed, but echo the previous comments. How can I possibly be angry or bitter against a man who has seen us promoted to League 1, two Wembley appearances and seen us finish 8th in League 1 - our best performance in nearly twenty years? Thanks for everything you've done MApp for all the good memories. Wish you all the best, unless we draw Leicester in the cup of course.

Different opinions are fine LR, but this poster has done nothing else recently but bleat on about how unfair 'some posters' are being to Mr Eales. He needs to read a bit more, understand a bit more and come to an informed opinion. Oh, and grow some balls.
