I just wanted to mark the contribution my Dad, Paul Smythe made to OUFC over the years. Recognisable in South Stand Upper for his colourful trousers (pink, burgundy, even yellow) Dad first started taking me to games in 1982 and has been a season ticket holder for well over 30 years. He's watched us through promotion to Division One, the Milk Cup Final, relegations to the Conference and was there for the Wycombe game in May. In a life of loving football, he spent well over £40,000 watching OUFC, paying for 13 tickets so his entire family could go to Wembley in April. Dad watched the 1966 World Cup at Wembley and collected more than 5,000 programmes. In his life he travelled 2.8 million miles by air to nearly 100 countries, but was at his happiest in Oxford, on matchday. When he took ill with cancer in July his only aim was to see the lads play again. His last game was Peterborough. Phil Edwards kindly brought in a signed shirt from the team to thank him for his contribution and I sent him away with a message to MAPP and the longer-serving players, to let them know they had made Dad so proud in what would be his last season. Dad died on Saturday morning, fittingly the day of the Sw*nd*n game. He'd have liked that very much. Father to 3 and grandfather to 5, he's very much missed and very much loved xx imgur.com/a/ggA1m

May your father rest in peace and the good lord keep him in his loving arms.
We have lost too many people this year, both public figures and ones nearest and dearest to us. Indeed I lost my Mum this year who while not a OUFC fan, always looked out for our results.
Keep strong

Your dad sounds like he was a top man. It always moves us when good people pass away but it hurts just that little bit more when it's one of our own. As you said mate it seems fitting that he passed on the day of the Derby. You have every right to be so proud of him. The floodlights at Grenoble Road will be shining just a little bit brighter now mate. Take care and RIP to another member of the OUFC family.

Personally, I'd be the happiest man on the planet if I thought my son would write something like that for me.

A very well written eulogy, that will touch the heart of all that read it, as it has mine.
I recognise your Dad, but didn't know him, and as has already been said, it's always sad to lose one of the great OUFC family.
RIP David.

So sorry to hear of your loss - my thoughts are with you and the family at this sad time. Your dad was 'one of our own'. I'd like to think he was looking down on the team on Saturday....and had an influence on what was a very sweet victory over that lot. Time doesn't heal, it just helps.

Didn't know your dad personally but he sounds like a smashing person and by the sounds of it you and your family have great memories of time together watching united. Those memories will be of great comfort to you in the coming months and years. RIP Paul

What a truly wonderful and touching tribute to someone who sounds like a thoroughly lovely bloke. I sure he will be missed a great deal, but what wonderful memories you have shared. My thoughts are with you and your family.
RIP Paul

May your Dad rest in peace. This is a moving eulogy for which you can take much credit at a difficult time. He will be in a place where the Yellows are forever top of the Premier League, Manchester United struggle in the conference, and the Swinedon ground has been dug up and replaced by a pig farm. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Thanks a cracking eulogy and a fitting tribute. I didn't know your dad but seem to recognise his face, as I'm sure many on here would.
Sorry to hear of your loss, you can take comfort in the memories you shared, and that they will stay with you forever.

Just realised, he was born just 3 days after D-Day. It's mind blowing how different the world he entered was from the world he left.

Didn't know you posted on here! Yeah was class. Bizarrely Saturday was a good day. He'd totally have loved it, so it made it easier. Good spot re the date, his whole life would've been defined by the war really, then came 1966 and by the time he left us the Germans were the good guys... See you soon pal, Bradford is a goer...
