A good result in the end. I'm not sure why their fans were all cocky before the game. They looked a good side, but not as good as they think. Their big flag seemed to be one big grammatical mistake.
The Ref was awful for much of the game. He may have made some correct decisions, but he was useless and got in the way for the vast majority of it.
Edwards looks a very good signing. Calm, composed and reads the game well. No disrespect to Long who is at the beginning of his career and can only get better, but you could see the difference between him and Edwards today. A decent team performance, more mobile, more at it and created chances all game. Still had some phases of concern, but the confidence grew and grew. Much better all around today.
Loved the celebration from Maguire. If you're going to give it out, gotta take it. I thought they were a funny side to play. At times, created lots up top but defending on the edge and both CMs went missing for periods. Someone will give them a spanking this year. They do love a good dive and roll around on the floor. Cheats

What a bloody game! A bit lucky though as I am 80% Ruffles' own goal went over the line... would like to see it again.
Who cares, what a win, let's go have 6 pints and a curry!

Very nice result today, Maguire and Eastwood were really good. Lunny was a little more influential in midfield and Taylor on as sub seemed to give their central defenders more competition in the air.

The ref was terrible. The Posh lad he booked for diving WAS fouled, the two free kicks he gave for them just before that just outside are box were both dives. The Posh players had realised early that 'falling over' equalled 'get a free kick' in the ref's eyes, and took full advantage as often as they could! He also gave (in quick succession) a corner that should have been a goal kick, then a corner correctly, then a goal kick that should have been a corner. He had backed himself into a corner by giving yellow cards in the first half for not very much at all, and then didn't want to give second yellows in the second half so fouls worse than those given cards for in the first half were just ignored. I'd hoped the refs would get better in a higher league, but that looks like a hope doomed to disappointment!
As for the match - we were better second half than we were first, they looked dangerous on the break and dodgy at the back. We were better at the back than we have been lately. Our passing was at times atrocious, and we still lack width and genuine pace (Roberts and - at times - Thomas excepted) - we really need another winger. The ball was dinked up in the air too much for my liking, we need more movement off the ball and the space just in front of our defence was a bit uncontested at times. But all in all it was a definite improvement, Edwards looks good, Eastwood is great and it was a much needed win.

I liked Maguire's comments on radio Oxford after the match, he said the keeper was winding him up pointing to where he should place the ball, he scored easy enough and said he should have saved his energy as he only started to dive after the ball hit the net, talk about confidence.

Shame the referee didn't see the funny side. Thought he was really poor today.

Also managed to drop his yellow card and spray on separate occasions, having to have players point them out to him.

Great penalty, the keeper guessed right but had no chance, how different from last season's spot kicks! Could be a real turning point, we could easily have lost that especially given Eastwood's late save from Ruffels but a lucky first goal and a smart penalty should give us confidence.

Massive respect to Eastwood who has to be our stand out player so far this season. Love the Edwards signing. We need that type of experienced player to come in to give us composure in midfield so we can see out more wins. This win was huge and we can go to Sheffield with all the pressure on Wilder. Great to see MAPP drop Martin who wasn't performing. That should send a message that no-one is entitled to a place.

Good result that, nice to get the monkey off their back. Skarz did an excellent job at centre half, Maguire and lunny much better today. Thought, sercs and macca were well off, both giving way to much away. Taylor made a difference coming on. Hemmings, hard to say. Overall very happy I thought Macca was great today, found it hard at times and lacked a bit of confidence to beat a man but he was one of our best player sin the first half.

Summed the ref up perfectly, when their player was booked for 'diving' it was a definate push by Ruffels I think. I was right in line with it, as was the lino, and totally amazed he never gave them a penalty. One of the worst referee performances for many a year., Some bloke on Radio Oxford rang or tweeted that we were moaners and the ref got just about everything right. Obviously watching from his garden shed. Better all round, liked the new full back and Eastwood is a great improvement, terrific reaction to get Ruffels deflection. Still not convinced on Hemmings, but it will come together, onwards to see Mr Wilder if he's still there.

Great performance in the context of the last couple of games. Great to see out skipper back to form. Anyway for you exiles heres my player ratings.
EASTWOOD - Most consistent performer this season..couple of good blocks and then a great save from Ruffles... 8 EDWARDS - Great debut, cool, calm and looked like he'd played 50 games already, a very good acquisition... 8 DUNKS - Solid as ever with a couple of his Cruyff like turns... 7.5 SKARZ - Move to left sided cente back..solid game.. Mr Reliable... 7 RUFFLES - Good move by Appy today.. did well (Great save by Eastwood)... 6.5 MAGUIRE - Love Maguire.. Very assured.. very composed.. Great Pen.. Even better celebration... 8.5 MOM LUNNY - Great to see the skipper back to his best, looked more confident... 8 SERCS - Struggled a bit this season like Lunny but signs as well that he is getting back to last season's form... 7 MACCA - Linked well with Edwards..this will work well... 7 HEMMINGS - Mixed bag..am sure hes only a came or two away from finding his feet... 6 THOMAS - Nice to see him back, worked the goal well even with the big deflection... 7
Subs TAYLOR - Good flick for Maguire and subsequent Penalty... 7 T ROBERTS - Different dimension, added pace... 7 CROWLEY - Not on for long but bags of ability... 6

I do think above scores are about spot on., however I must disagree with Ruffles, there is no way is he a defender - he was poor today - much better in the middle of the park, not his fault being played out of position - a lot of Posh attacks came down Ruffles side as they obviously saw a weak link - Crowley did little - 10 mins to go he had 2 defenders in front of him and all he had to do was pass left or right and there were players in acres of space - but he tried to go thro the 2 ....and lost the ball

After watching that all-round display today with every one generally on their game I am confident we can do rather well this season... and we will have a good squad of cover come the critical months in the winter. If we can keep the current squad together for a couple of seasons and we perform to todays level consistently I can see no reason why we wont be playing second tier football before 2020.

That bit at the end with Crowley REALLY annoyed me. A few minutes to go, players free to both sides of him and he tries to do it all himself. Loses the ball, three players are stranded upfield and Peterborough can start another attack. Brainless. He may have ability, but if he can't play for the team then he could become a li-ability.

I agree to some extent but when it comes off ... its a Rodney Marsh, Frank Worthington, Stan Bowles or Duncan Mackenzie moment. ( showing my age now)
We should never try and coach that ability and precociousness out of a young player, moreover encourage it..tempered with a bit of understanding of the position of the players in support of course
At that moment Crowley wasn't think of defending, nor should he have been.
Frustrating I know...but he will come good. Of all the players I've seen so far he has the most potential.

I agree that you don't want to stifle individual creativity, but football is a team game. At that point, in that situation, I still maintain that what he did was selfish and a bit dim. As you say though, he is young and will learn.

Posh fans aren't half a stuck up bunch. You'd think for a club that has yo yoed between L1 and Championship that the fans would be more grounded. The arrogance of Chelsea without the winning history.
