Just got back. Thoughts Rovers were sharper and quicker to every ball Our passing was crap Longs first booking was wrong, he made a great tackle and it should have been a throw to us. How did Roberts miss at the end The steward who stopped me taking photos really p*ssed me off I'm gutted we lost that game but we really need to improve quickly Steward stopped you taking photo's FFS what the decks going on I would have stuck one on him He said only professional photographers could take photos of the match, total f*cking jobsworth t*at

Ok, back home, had some dinner and a couple of glasses of wine. So, first 5 minutes we were wide open and could have conceded very easily, luck and poor finishing from rovers let us off. After that we started to play and got into the game. Gifted them the opener through what was to become the hallmark of the day, poor passing. Fully deserved the equalizer. Taylor was patient and went up for everything and finally got rewarded with a through ball to Hemming who put it away with style (and a bit of luck with the post) Rovers had done there homework though and knew what to do, the rough handling of Taylor which apparently went unnoticed by the ref was very apparent to us in the away end. But also, they knew how to play wide and bypass our midfield. Sercs was almost invisible and Lunny, and Maguire, played one bad pass after another. We lacked any kind of wing play in contrast to Rovers. However, as I was recorded saying to Selfie on air (oops!) at half time, I thought we would still go on to win 2-1 because we had them figured out and that Taylor and Hemming had found each others wavelength. I had no idea that the team would just switch off in the second half. We need defensive cover (especially now the card happy ref has got Long suspended) we also need a winger but most of all, we need the team to come out of the starting blocks and start playing. 2nd half today was just not good enough. I'm sorry, but were we watching the same game? We got absolutely slaughtered in the first half, so to say we deserved our equaliser is laughable. We did improve second half (until the sending off) but it could have been 5-1 at half time and we couldn't have argued about it. Lost the battle in midfield all day and we couldn't cope with there movement up top. That's also the most direct (long balls) I have seen us play in a long long time. All in all a bad day at the office with a deserved defeat, but I have no doubt the players will go to Fleetwood and give us a big reaction.

First game of the season for me. Disappointed how we faded away after their goal. I would have kept one of Macca and Maguire on - they were both effective - and by the end we resembled an u21 side.
The sending off did for us, the first booking for Long was a nonsense, he won the ball fairly.
Plusses - Hemmings goal - quite superb, the keeper looked solid, Maguire, Nelson's ball playing ability, Skarz ok.
Minuses- Nelson's mistakes, lack of pace at the back , (come back Dunks), Taylor's immobility, Lundstram's lack of drive.
Some early season rust from both sides, no need to panic yet.
Enjoyable atmosphere although facilities for away supporters remain embarrassing. Bet Rovers have a good season.

My view(not that I had a good view of the game as I was stood at the top of the terracing and could only see the back of peoples heads) we were 2nd best all game, Lundstram looks a shadow of his former self, the passing was woeful all game, we need pace up top or out wide, Hemmings looks a good buy, Eastwood kept us in it.
On to Fleetwood, hopefully it was just a bad day at the office.

I don't buy into needing a winger, we have macca, Maguire, T Roberts, and Crowley who are more than good enough to play out there. Plus we have Hall to come back eventually. What we do need is a midfielder who can do the crappy side of the game, breaks play up, press the other team and just stop the other team building momentum. I expect to see a right back come in now too as even though Long has done OK I feel he will get targeted as our weak link. Exactly right! I only MAPP realises this. I'm sure there's some good availability out there even if we have to look at the best ones in L2 with L1 experience. Having played in L1 before is crucial because Sercs and Lunny haven't and we desperately need know how. I see Sercs as more of an attacking midfielder with someone extra sitting back.

That's poor behaviour from Taylor, hope karma bites him in the arse. Concretebob - grow up! Don't forget it was us who decided to release him years ago when he was a youngster, then to bring him back many years later as a striker and a matter of months later.......release him again! Matty owes us nothing. If MApp was stupid enough to think him resigning was based upon a handshake then he ought to know better. Also don't forget Matty is best buddies with Callum O'Dowda and when he realised how badly Callum was treated by greedy Eales & Co he had a re-think. What goes around comes around By the way - great to see COD today standing with the Oxford fans. The absolute state of this post... 1) Nobody is claiming that Taylor "owes us" anything. Similarly we don't owe him either. Releasing him was the correct move for all parties. 2) You tell another poster to "grow up", and then call MApp "stupid" for thinking that shaking on a deal was significant. 3) You say that COD was treated badly yet allude in absolutely no way as to how. COD does, on the other hand, owe a great deal to the club; namely his career. 4) As an Oxford fan how on earth are you attempting to defend someone who has just scored the winner against us and openly mocked both the management and the fans of the club? Bristol Rovers are welcome to the bloke, seems to lack any class. Wouldn't want him here.

The reason I think we need another winger is options from the bench. We have 3 CMs in Ruffels, Crowley and Rothwell and none are a natural winger. I suppose we could put Giles on the bench, but MAPP has seemed reluctant to do so.

Although I was thinking more along lines of someone who's been a mainstay and had at least a good season behind him for one club. I hope Lunny can perform as captain but even if he does is be really keen to see some competition for places in that area. Who do we go to if Lunny and/or Sercs get dropped, suspended, injured??

Admitidly, I did not go to the game, however, panic has set in already on this forum. It's one game. The team need time to gel and we will get better. This league is a big step up from league 2. The majority of our players should be able to step up but it will take a little time.

However back 4 looked slow and were in trouble chasing runners all afternoon. Also need to win some tackles in midfield. Bit power puff on the day. Need some cover before a couple of our better injured players return. No need to panic. Just raise our game in a couple of places.. Keeper had another great game.
