That whole election is so odd I can't get my head around it. UKIP and the Lib Dems have proven that another party being in the mix really helps shake things up and stops it being such a binary and rote choice. I just doubt US Politics will every shake itself out of its Democratic/Republican stupor. It's too ingrained.
Ironically, their most important vote isn't for President. If the Republicans can keep control of the Senate, Clinton will be as screwed as Obama has been. Especially with Obamacare costs going up a lot.

If the Republicans can keep control of the Senate, Clinton will be as screwed as Obama has been. Especially with Obamacare costs going up a lot. Agreed. To be honest, in terms of a legislative agenda, Hillary is probably screwed anyway because the Democrats are not going to claim the House from the Republicans this year. And a Republican House is going to try and block almost everything she tries to do. But if the Democrats take the Senate - or at least tie it up at 50:50 (the deciding vote in that instance belongs to the Vice President) - and Hillary wins then she will be able to select whomever she wants as the next Supreme Court justice to fill Scalia's seat. That confirmation is undertaken solely be the Senate. The fairly ancient Bill Clinton appointees, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer, may also view it as a good time to retire. Replace those three with young, liberal justices in the next two years and it's going to have a bigger impact on US policy than anything else that's happening in this election cycle. The Supreme Court, after all, is the entity that both upheld Obamacare and guaranteed the right to same-sex marriage this year. Current polling suggests that the Senate race is going to be close.

I've seen some conspiracy theories about Justice Scalia's death being a covered up murder. Some people will believe what they want to. I heard the question in the debate about justice's but it went over my head. I can see why Clinton would want to get the Justice's she wants.
The Republicans should have a lot of money sloshing around for the Senate race. That should in theory appeal to their base even if The Donald doesn't. It'll be interesting to see if the Quiet Conservatives over here translates to elections over there whether it be Trump or the other votes.
One thing that surprises me is how many people go out and see Trump at rallies. He's such an obnoxious person but people love him for it. It must drive the Clinton camp nuts. Their candidate should be the one that people want to see. But no, it's idiot with the wig.

One thing that surprises me is how many people go out and see Trump at rallies. He's such an obnoxious person but people love him for it. It must drive the Clinton camp nuts. Their candidate should be the one that people want to see. But no, it's idiot with the wig. Yeah, the Supreme Court basically serves as the ultimate arbiter for the constitutionality of all US laws. They can be the final decision makers on any number of new legislative efforts, with the power to strike down new laws that they deem unconstitutional (as they did with some anti-Gay marriage legislation, but declined to do with Obamacare (just)). Justices are appointed by the President, confirmed by the Senate, and it's a position for life - they hold the seat as long as they want to. So seats come up rarely, and when they do it can profoundly impact the political lean of the country. The 'Quiet Conservatives' issue is an interesting one. But there's also some theory that this could actually spin Hillary's way - that people don't like her, and don't want to admit to voting for her but will do so when confronted with the prospect of Trump at the ballot box. With regards the Senate races - there are two problems facing the Republicans. Firstly, a lot of less political Republican voters may stay home because they're so lacking in enthusiasm for Trump and so not vote on the Senate seats. And secondly, in a lot of States there's a box at the top of the ballot which basically states "Vote all D/Vote all R". To vote for a Democrat presidential candidate, and a Republican senator (plus the huge number of minor votes further down the ballot) actually takes more effort than blindly ticking the 'D/R' box. And a lot of people hate effort. Anyways - it's still all speculation for now. We find out in 13 days!

The Quiet Conservatives are the impossible edge on an election. Do they get polled? I do see polls are generally more Democrat leaning - I don't think it's a mass conspiracy to be fair just how polls are done. Do they admit to their preferred choices on polling? I would not think there are a massive numbers, but it will only take one a small minority in somewhere like Florida to swing the state.
How lazy are Americans? Select all voting is the absolute pits as it's not hard select 3 different options before voting. I think the next 13 days will be very interesting. It will either get closer or be a cake walk for Clinton.

It will either get closer or be a cake walk for Clinton. In their defense - it can be a lot more than three things to vote on. I know in my area, there are eight different elections going on simultaneously (President, Representative, and six local government appointments) and two ballot initiatives on casinos and public transport. I don't get to vote, but I know that my wife is spending a good few hours reviewing all the candidates to make an informed decision on every position. Not everyone is going to be quite as conscientious!

Blimey. That's a lot to vote on. All credit to anyone who doesn't just go all Dem, All Rep while voting. You'd think they'd offer less choice to get people thinking more about who they are voting for.

The only upside is the pound could recover. As for the FTSE there may well be fireworks with our pensions suffering the uncertainties
