Just heard the news that a fellow FOULer John Evans AKA Snake passed away this week after a long illness. John has a pivotal member of the FOUL committe when Oxford United were at its lowest, I'll miss his humour, his passion and his resilience to keep on at "the man" whoever that was, never giving up.
In working with John I learnt as a young man that people power works, those in power can be made to listen.
RIP Snake.

That's very sad. Didn't know John personally, but his posts on here and on Rage Online were always worth reading. RIP.

A long time poster on the various forums we've had over the years. Will miss his dry humour.

Probably 'fell out' with a few on here from time to time, nothing personal (not by me at least) just that football discussions can lead to the odd argument! Oh yes they can..

Just heard the news. RIP John really enjoyed conversing with him and the man was a true fighter to be given months to live more than 7 years ago shows the character of the man. He will be missed.

It has been on the cards for a long time now, but still a shock to hear the sad, but inevitable, news. I was beginning to think the old sod was indestructible. RIP John.

I did not know John personally but know that he was heavily involved in fighting for Oxford United's Life which helped to save the club in desperate times. He also challenged some of my posts which made life interesting. RIP John

Goodbye John. One amazing guy died today, always thought provoking and always willing to test authority to the limit. I know there are so many stories from the FOUL days that nobody will ever believe. An absolute legend who in so many ways gave FOUL the belief to start the fight and a guy who literally changed a councils thinking from the inside. Always had so many crap ideas but there was always the one gem that changed everything. RIP Snake.

Take care Snake, carry on giving them the big middle finger in the next life!
As a fair few others on here, I never met the guy, but Snake always stood out as a buoyant character, opinionated but humorous. As I moved away from Oxford in my early teens back in 2004, I was fairly dependant on the the likes of TiU and other forum communities to feel in touch with the club and the fans' spirit. He has to be one of the earliest forum members I can remember, his posts always stood out somehow, whether I agreed with his view or not. But the way I see it, I'd far rather express myself and leave a lasting impression than sit quietly at the back, slipping out without anybody noticing.
It's a pity I never met the man, I'm sure we would have had a laugh.
Rest In Peace brother.
P.S. I always read his posts in the voice Hank Azaria gave Snake on The Simpsons. So, in tidings with the character's catchphrase, "Bye!"

I did know Snake. Did I know him well? I doubt it. Did anyone? As chuckbert said - "I always enjoyed the fact I never knew if he was serious or not about almost everything. Keep em guessing John." An absolutely unique character. 110% his own man. A total pleasure to have known. A man who has battle for years against massive odds. An incredibly sad loss. RIP mate.

Hello friends- football fan from North Wales brings you greetings, I'm a Wrexhamfc Supporters Trust member and thus a part owner of my football club. I have followed Wrexhamfc through thick thin thin and very thin since around 1968 the year John Evans entered my life as a next door neighbour ( well around 1/4 mile away in the hills above Wrexham) . For the next 8 years or so John and his brother and parents were like a second family to me as I lost my Mum at that time. during our first ever excursion to the FA Cup 6th round John's Dad drove is to the 3rd 0-2 win at Cryst Palace , the 5th round 0-1 win at Southampton. Another mutual friend of mine & John's bought tickets for the mass excursion from North Wales to Bob Lords Burnley for the 6th round - nearly all of Wrexham's double decker buses made the journey to Lancashire for that narrow 1-0 defeat. The 70s when my team became the renowned giant killers years later for Mickey Thomas ''s free kick to beat Arsenal - an 'I was there moment''. As often happens friends go separate ways after shared teenage years, John to Aberystwyth Uni - myself to Manchester , a few meetings in holidays , and occasion in Oxford, then our last meeting at his Dad's funeral around 10years ago. His family was there for me when I needed them so this last Monday with another of our snooker group from John s family farm club I drove and chatted -7hrs return Wrexham to Oxford- to say goodbye to me friend. I was humbled to hear how he has helped Oxford United , as so many others have helped my team in our darkest times in thes last 6-7 years. At the 'wake' in Church Hamborough I was told that those sat in front of me at the funeral service were Kasaams. And to hear of John's campaigns for FOULs and Long Hamborough gave some good news on a sad day. We share our sadness at the loss of a friend, and we give thanks for the life he shared with us , though football, Wrexhamfc, Oxford United, Swansea and Wales. If others have other memories I'd be happy to share with the family. Otherwise congratulations on your promotion, we hope that my beloved Wrexhamfc Can join you again soon . All best Rob. RIP John my friend
