Pressure time. It's on now - four games to haul ourselves over the line. Newport away with a 1000+crowd from Oxford to cheer them on.
Saturday was disappointing, however we have frequently bounced back from disappointing results with wins and none are needed more than against Newport tomorrow. There are no easy games now. Pure ruthlessness is needed now from whoever starts. A win by all means keeps us where we want to be.
The main concern is the injuries and illnesses. O'Dowda and MacDonald won't travel, Roofe and Lundstram are struggling, Ruffels isn't ready after being clattered against Crawley so we're going in with a patched up midfield.
Cheer them on in south Wales tomorrow. It's essential that we claim the three points.
COYY!

A scrappy yet convincing 2-0 win courtesy of Dunkley and a Maguire free kick

Not the team news we wanted to hear this morning but got to deal with it best we can.
Would imagine we'll go with Hylton and Bowery. MApp has said before that Bowery's game is better suited to how we play away from home and he'll be fresher than most after Saturday.
As for the wide areas, I would imagine that Maguire will play and then either Roofe (if able) or Roberts. Alternatively, people saying that we should bring back Jake Wright, we could put him at LB and move Evans into arguably his more natural LM role?
It's going to be tough and it's not going to be pretty.

In order to be able to cope with the nerves, I'll be getting to Newport at around 3 to numb my mind with alcohol. I think there's a spoons by the station, not sure about any other pubs.

Could we see Roberts make a triumphant return to the team down the right wing?

Any sort of win for us, don't mind how it comes so long as we get three points...hopefully teams elsewhere will slip up

Yes, it's a must-win game and so any sort of win will do.
Exactly the same will apply to the Hartlepool game.

Looks like an injury pile up is going to restrict our options tomorrow. We just have to win. It's as simple as that!

Aha! Squeaky bum time! If we win the next two games, the worst that can happen, will be that we are in the play-offs. If we lose or draw the next two, we'll be in the play-offs. Confused? Well, at least my prediction for Newport should help clear things up. I reckon: Newport won't and Oxford will. 2-1 to us, with us getting two own goals. The att: 4034 with 1090 Yellows fans and 34 sheep. But its not just the on-pitch action that has got my attention. Here's my take on things: Skarz, fresh from his penis operation, will be in the dressing room for moral support, before the game. MacDonald will accuse him of crashing his drone into his brand new car and will aim a punch into Skarz's groin. Dunkley will go to head butt him, but miss and accidently nut Roofe in the clavicle. Roofe will still play, but look like the hunchback of Notre Dame - with a lisp. At this point, things will start to get weird. The referee, Mr. A. Hitler (no relation) will announce his resignation just before kick-off and be replaced by Mr. Frank N. Stein (again, no relation). He will book eleven players - all from Oxford. After 34 minutes, a sheep will run onto the pitch. Ten minutes later, Roofe will go to take a free kick, but be upset when he realises that we haven't actually got one. We will have 14 corners - all in the first 5 minutes. A Newport fan will bring in a Welsh choir, but they will forget to bring the song sheets, so they'll have to hum their songs throughout the game. A skein (ok, Mr Cannell?) of geese will fly over the pitch after 48 minutes. One of them will drop down dead and land on Dunkley, breaking his coccyx. He will go to head butt the poor bird - miss, and accidently head the ball into his own net. Poor Chey will be carted off to the local nut-house. Just as they leave the stadium, the sheep (still lurking at the back of the stadium), will run in front of the ambulance and force the driver to change his religion. Back on the pitch, things will go from bad to the ridiculous for the Yellows. Slocombe, freshly installed as our trusted goalie, will have to be replaced, after suffering from an unfortunate bout of Diarrhea. Oxford fans will be accused of letting off a smoke bomb, until they realise it was methane from Slocombe's rear end. As he comes out to replace him, Buchel will trip over his boot laces and run off, crying uncontrollably. Roofe, complete with knackered clavicle, will take over in goal. Oxford will get a very dubious penalty, which Sercombe will blast into Newport Town centre. The ref will go on to admit he only gave us the penalty, because he wanted a laugh. One of the floodlights and the scoreboard will explode. That just about does it for me.

What's wrong with Roofe & Lundstram?
Bring Wright in at left back and move Evans to left midfield with Maguire going to the right.

I think we play a 3 5 2. Our three CBs at the back with our young fullbacks at wingback. This would allow them a bit more freedom going forward and us as a team a bit more defensive cover, given we don't have any out-and-out wingers who are realistically going to start and could provide the defensive cover we were missing on saturday. then sercs and ruffels in the middle, with maguire in what i think would be his best position - a floating #10. Moving him centrally and allowing him the freedom to show off his footballing intelligence, that some on here have suggested he has, may mean we see the best in him. then waring and hylton up top. i like waring, contrary to popular opinion, as he does win a hell of a lot in the air, and i think with better service could be an effective target man, and i see bowery more as an impact sub anyway (if, god forbid, we find ourselves chasing the game, who would you rather see coming on - bowery's raw pace and power, or waring's ability to win some headers and hold the ball up?

who knows what team will play tonight, whoever they are, all we can ask for is 110% commitment(and FOCUS) from every single one of them. Will save my prediction for later.

now the coach Dan Bond can give his full attention to coaching the players after his attention was focused on winning strictly Oxford at the weekend, the mighty Us will return to winning ways, 3-1 playing beach football, a brace from Roberts and one from Bowery

It goes without saying tonight is a must win Sorry to be boringly repetitive Baz, but tonight is not a 'must win'. If we fail to win at Newport, irrespective of other results, automatic promotion is still within our reach. If we need three points at home to Wycombe to secure promotion and no other result would do, that's a must win. Three points tonight would make life easier though.

It is a 'must win' if we want to be sure that our fate is in our own hands though. If we lose tonight and two of the three nearest contenders win then we will be out of the auto positions ...

You're right. It's a question of definition. It's a 'must win' to retain control over our own destiny, but not in terms of achieving automatic promotion or not. I can tell I'm feeling nervous now - I'm rambling.

I'm afraid that it is a must win if we want the easy route up in the autos. Crazy how we have frittered away points In our home games since Christmas. I would be more concerned tonight if it was at the Kassam though. I would sooner have a must win against Newport than someone up in the play off positions. Going for. Two nil win.

Just a thought. How about bringing Wright back and moving Mullins into the holding midfield role. I would prefer Roofe (should he be able to play) in the more central role rather than as a winger. He tends to drift infield anyway and oftern leaves Kenny seriously exposed.

The first game of the season is a 'must win' if you want to ensure that you get off to a good start and that no-one is ahead of you on points

Have to disagree Pete, It would make life a bit easier in our quest for automatic promotion. Tonight's game on paper is the the easiest out of the 4 we have left, If as has been said we could have 4 first teamers out then we have to grab this game by the scruff so to speak and shear the sheep shaggers

I didn't realise quite how bad Newport's recent record is.
They have lost 8 and drawn one of their past 9 games. With our current injuries and illness we couldn't ask for a better game. Newport will be up for it certainly to start with. We need to match them for effort and even with an injury striken team we should have enough to beat them.
Ruffels sounds to be OK if Lundstrom is out. I reckon Macguire is getting closer and closer with his free kicks and is due one or two! It would be good to see James Roberts on the scoresheet as well.

Very odd on Coral: Mulls is 20/1 to score today, compared to 14/1 for Jake Wright.
