There is very good thread called Loanwatch in this section if you need to know where players are. Crocombe is still at Southport according to that.

hinting at his future maybe? Apart from the fact that he's "looking forward to next season", it's a fairly subtle hint I'd suggest!

Could also read it that he's expecting to be there again next season

I can't see him being first or second choice keeper here next season..

He can back up the new keeper that is certain to come in.

Buchel's contract expires June 16, Slocombe's expires June 17 and we've just given Jack Stevens a pro contract so as it stands we have 3 keepers contracted for next season (Slocombe, Crocombe and Stevens).
Will be interesting how MA views the goalkeeping situation.

I've always liked Crocombe when I've seen him play but he's still only 22. We need a better number 1 than we've had this season. If the coaching staff judge that Max is good enough then I'd be more than happy to see him get the nod next season, however if not then I'd like to see him out on loan to a league 2 or conference side where he will play every week.
I imagine Slocombe will stay unless we can find someone else to take over his contract and Buchel will be released leaving someone else to be first choice, Slocombe second choice and then Stevens can be third choice with Max out on loan.

22 is a nothing age for keepers. If he's rated by Appleton like others I've no issue in him going out on loan again.

What I think may happen is that Buchel will be offered a new contract - the management seem to have faith in him - and Slocombe released by mutual consent having found another club. That would leave Crocombe - perhaps sent out on loan again - and/or Stevens as back up.

I don't think slocombe will struggle finding another club.. He has a promotion on his record from his time at scunny and was very highly thought of when we brought him in
I imagine buchel is on a much lower wage and is good enough to be a back up keeper at this level
Max is an interesting one.. He seems to have a really good presence about him and I can see some potential there! A full season of first team football in the conference could do him a world of good
Crucial area to get right his summer though

I feel happy for Büchel. Brought in as a back up goalie for Slocombe, picked for the cup games and made himself undroppable, Played at Wembley in the JPT. What a season.

Made himself unstoppable or slocombe just wasn't up to it? Neither have filled me with confidence all season and both have cost us points For me we need a new number 1 whichever league we're in

A trio of points from me on that: - - Is there a single defender in the squad of whom it can truthfully be said has not cost us points this season? - We have the best defensive record in League 2, so does that really mean that our stoppers are so poor? - We have three young keepers - youngish in Buchel's case - all with the potential to improve. Stick with them and give them a chance, I say.

None as much as Buchel and Slocombe/per minute played We do have the best defensive record, and I don't think it'd be a huge amount better with a better goalie, but better it would be, and neither goalie is poor, but neither is good enough, either Go into a new season in a higher league, or go into a season where anything other than promotion from League 2 is a huge failure with 2 goalkeepers who over 46 games have shown their limitations, when there will be plenty of better replacements? Absolute nonsense

You're making two points here that I'm pretty sure you can't substantiate: - - Can you provide the statistics to prove definitively that Buchel and Slocombe have cost us the most points per minutes played? - Where are these 'plenty of better replacements' coming from? Hasn't exactly worked with Slocombe, has it?

No I can't, but i've watched over 3/4 of our games this season, and Slocombe and Buchel have both made error after error, often resulting in us conceding goals, i understand they have the hardest job, and their mistakes are a lot more likely to lead to goals, but that's the nature of the job, and neither have done their's to the required level this season, I think the huge majority agree with that.

Yet slocombe and long on paper were both very good gk signings.

How many goals has benji actually been at fault for? 5/6? If that? And not all of those have cost us points. He looks like he's getting a bit more confidence now game after game, it's only his first season in the league, very similar comment were being made about dunkley. He was making mistakes that lead to a few goals, A run in the side has got him to one of the first names on the team sheet. Benji is improving the same.

With our defensive record, how anyone can be hyper critical of our goalkeepers is beyond me. Of course both have made mistakes. If they were brilliant shot stoppers and good at coming out for crosses and comand their area well, they wouldnt be playing in league 2 would they?

Just out of interest would you be happy to go int next season with slocombe and buchel fighting it out for the starting slot? I don't have facts/figures/stats to show that these 2 aren't up to it but have watched the majority of our games this year and neither have filled me with confidence atall The vast majority of fans I know agree with me in this I'm surprised people on here don't!

No, probably not. I don't think either are as bad as people say and I don't think Clarke was as good as people say, though. Slocombe has the pedigree so it's odd it didn't work out and I think Benji can carry on getting better, would be happy with either one or the other fighting it out with a new 'keeper next season. If I had to prioritise, a new right back would be above a gk on the 'to sign' list for next season but I would guess that would be the same for everybody.
