Was thinking of the most famous person from Oxfordshire
Would be great to have a large banner with Churchill giving his two fingered salute, wearing and OUFC scarf and just the word 'Oxonian' below
Bit of history and humour

I think I'd rather enjoy the surrealism that would come with attending a football with a large banner or flag with Stephen Hawking on it. Make it happen!
Juts not one with f**kin' Rick Stein on it.

If it's what fans would like, then the Yellow Army fund can pay for it. We have fans who will be able to make it, so will just be materials and paint. 20% of YA funds go towards improving the match day experience/atmosphere. This sounds like a good project.

Churchill is getting appropriated these days though by the right wing as a figurehead particularly with the Union flag. Would have to be careful what message this portrays. the opening post perhaps gets it right.

What about having it on a big waving flag, like our stormtrooper one?
I think it would be worth having a poll on this first though. As Greenmurphy has shown, there may be some strong opinions, as it is political.
I'd absolutely love it, mind you

What a load of shite, the idea is not a political one!!
Churchill is a famous Oxonian, and an iconic figure
It would make fantastic banner, remember with him wearing an OUFC scarf, some people need to get a grip..

He is an historical political figure.
A notorious racist (very recently his islamaphobic views are in the news) , a committed imperialist. He is a poster icon for a certain kind of bullish nationalism.
You will offend right wingers to whom he is some kind of quasi spiritual talisman.
And you will offend left wingers who read stuff like this:
www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/not-his-finest-hour-the-dark-side-of-winston-churchill-2118317.html
and are very wary of the myth - even repulsed.
And this is a slippery slope. Who next? Thatcher? Why not?
Oh yes you're unlocking a Pandora's Box here people.

You can't unilaterally decide that using a revered / controversial historical figure as a cartoon footy fan isn't provocative. It is. People will have their own views. It will be lost on 98% of the population who have no idea he who was from Oxfordshire anyway.

Agree 100% A son of Oxfordshire, we should be proud, and as I say done the right way it would cracking If we had an online vote then it would decide things, instead of being shouted down by those who made this 'political' when it was nothing of the sort!!

Do you know what those guys did to the Republic, they defend the dark side, participated in the attempted genocide of the ewoks. And under the leadership of a sith dictator killed several leading Jedi figures. Outrageous and not what our football club need linking with.
