Random Manor memories , the Manor on TV ( not with the Us featuring) Also there was a short series with the actress who plays sally webster on coronation st playing the part of a vagrant punk called (I think) 'mad bastard'...again memory not to clear on this, but some of the footage was filmed in the cemetary next to the old (no longer there) Lucy Factory in Jericho..... it was something to do with the main male character trying to 'save' an old cinema from shutting down ( think Didcot cinema was the one used)...and , if memory serves ( maybe Im confusing it with an early Morse episode? ) , there was some footage from outside the manor on a matchday which kind of wove into the story, again, I cant at this moment recall what the title of that one was either(anyone?) I remember this one too Sarge. It was on Channel Four in winter / spring 1989 from memory. They were also filming in Didcot at the New Coronet after it closed as a cinema, but before it became a bingo hall. I remember they filmed at an evening game against Sunderland in about October 1988 and filmed characters going up to the Manor through Beech Road turnstiles and then on to Beech Road lower terrace, just by the directors entrance to the stand. Despite all this useless information I can't remember what it was called. However, I do know that Sally Webster from Coronation Street wasn't in it, as its not on her CV on IMDB

The post from Sarge has reminded me about the filming of a 'Jim'll Fix It' segment at The Manor. Some Arsenal supporting kid was upset at how rubbish his team were, so asked if he could ref a game and fix it for them to win. The TV company chose to re-create our 3-2 Milk Cup win over them. I was in the crowd for the filming of that. Strange day. I was there for that too. I bought the home programmes for 1984/85 from the 12th Man programme stand recently. In one of the programmes there is an advert saying they want groups who can bring 60-80 kids to a Jim'll Fix It recording to get in touch with the club.... In light of what we know now it looks like a really weird spoof...
Luckily Saville wasn't at the ground whilst they recorded the footage.

Early/Mid-eighties programmes used to have an advert for a free burger at Burgerland in Cornmarket (now Wimpy?) It was a black full page ad. Just take the ad in for a free quarter pounder. They were very good en route to the London Rd club coach at the Gloucester Green.

Burgerland later became Huckleberry's in 1984ish.

I was an extra in the manageress So many amazing memories from the manor spent on the left side of London Road top near the fence A couple of random memories. Super Kevin Francis joining us in the LR and starting songs Graham taylor 1st? Match for wolves as manager after England. 4.0 drubbing. Do I not like that Pineapple on his head Watching a Simon cup match in the pissing down rain from a tree in cuckoo lane Nearly being crushed to death as a 8 year old at the front middle of LR against villa in the semi. Playing in one of those pre match kids matches and scoring for the blue team. Think we were playing Leicester. Leicester fans cheered while I celebrated by giving them them the *ankers sign. Our porn star goalie. Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards

There is a very brief trailer for it on YouTube.... Features the house being blown up and shows the main character running down the side of the A4130 away from Didcot with the cooling towers in the background.
The woman that was thought to be played by the actress who plays Sally Webster was actually Sue Devaney who actually played Kevin Webster's sister in Corrie. She was also in Casualty.

Towards the end of that same season, we were at home to Sunderland who were closing in on ManUre in the promotion battle. Naturally they brought a large contingent and were packed into Cuckoo Lane. Five minutes from time Colin Clarke struck a beauty to open the scoring and poor Sunderland could see promotion slipping away. From the Cuckoo Lane emerged this enormous Wearsider who grabbed our keeper, John Milkins, and, egged on by the fans from up north, started to hit him about the head and ruffle up his wonderfully Brylecreamed hair. It took half the Oxford team to bring him down before two coppers escorted the gigantic intruder out. As they passed us, I said something to the effect that he was a very naughty boy. Whereupon, he stopped and gave me the evil eye. I don't know who was more terrified, me or the coppers. Seamus of course was laughing his head off Surely in 74/75 away fans still got put in the London rd ?Strangely my first visit to the Manor was as an away fan,Burnley with my dad 1971, 2-1 Oxford,Cassidy and Roberts,a few years later Cass lived 3 doors down from me. My first visit to the skip was as a Burnley fan as well,League cup semi final 1969,Burnley won that night, but lost the 2nd leg at home. So I hated the scum long before I started following Oxford. Over in Ireland for last two weeks so just read your post. You're right, away fans were given left side London Road in those days. Never quite understood why as there was only the one gents toilets for all then and you could never go for a pee at half time without getting caught up in the fracas between home and away fans. Anyway, as I recall, Sunderland brought so many they filled left side London Road and still had enough left over to fill Cuckoo Lane too. It was the biggest visiting crowd I had seen at The Manor although Sheffield Wednesday brought even more a few years later in their promotion year. Funny enough, the only side who were not put into left side London Road that season were Manure. It was all-ticket and they were given Cuckoo Lane end. At half time some daft steward opened the connecting gate on Osler Road and hoards of Manure hooligans swarmed through to try and take London Road, but they didn't succeed! The following year I was at Reading station on the way to see us play Chelsea. The platform and train was full of Chelsea yobs. Some were near me in the carriage and I was hoping my Oxford scarf was not too obvious. They boasted how they were going to take London Road. Then one piped out, "It won't be easy, even Man United couldn't". As it turned out they did, but only because so many got in over an hour before kick-off before most of the London Roaders arrived. The police then decided it was wiser to direct Oxford fans to other parts of the ground. Don't think anyone else has ever taken London Road

My Manor memory doesn't involve a game.
My cousin (hello Val if you read the forum!) had her wedding reception at the Supporter's Club. This was the summer of 1985 (I think), the summer before we played in the first division for the first time ever. Beautiful summer's day, sun shining, and some of had a walk into the London Road terrace. The pitch looked amazing. We had just won the 2nd division, we were a club on the up. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up just thinking of the teams we would be playing on that pitch, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Everton, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Spurs. We'd played and beaten most of them in cup games in the last 2 or 3 years.
Then Bob Maxwell came into the reception and wished the happy couple the best of luck!

There were two parts to the Lucy and co' factoryn...one was the foundry, the other (electrical division) made the incoming and outgoing parts of electrical substations , as in ring main units and distribution pillars etc

I remember an OUFC v Chelsea game 80's I think Kerry Dixon scored a penalty I think we missed one, Half way through the first half a group of Chelsea fans in th far right London road started singing and chanting. I watched with a bit of a chuckle at a long line of OUFC fans walking from the left hand side to the right hand side and waking straight back....... Now if that had been the 70's andpossibly the early 80's that would have kicked of as it was the old bill just put a ring around the Chelsea wa*kers.

The Everton and arsenal games in the old first division will always stick in my mind as they were so important to our league status, but the arsenal and Man U games were cup games to savour and enjoy in the moment, fantastic, I remember jumping up when we scored and my feet not touching the ground when I came back down, the London road was rammed.

Agree with that, even though as mentioned Sheff Wednesday fans 'took over' the LR - It was only because it was so early that all the Oxford lads were still in the pubs and Supporters Club- so not valid in my book! I remember stood at the back of the LR with a handful of other Ox lads and being pretty much the only home fans who managed to get in- even so, we defiantly tried to stand our ground, before the plod escorted us out, lucky for Wednesday!! The infamous match against Villa at the Manor sticks in the memory, they had a right go at taking the LR -and FAILED,I recall that in the match report in the Ox mail- it said 'Villa fans were literally booted out of the LR stand''!!
