For me I want the Germans to get smashed by the Argies. I don't understand all the people who are english wanting Germany to win? For me that would be like wanting Swindon to win a cup final.

I'd like Germany to win it. They play attractive football and they have built from the youth upwards a fantastic team who clearly enjoy playing together.
Wouldn't begrudge Argentina winning it but hope and think Germany will do the job.

Are you still holding a grudge because of the wars? Can't say I like either team but I still hate the Argies because of Maradonna. I think we could have won the World Cup that year if he hadn't cheated? We also could have won it in 90 but for penalties and you can't really blame the Germans for that!

I want the Germans to win....they have played some awe inspiring football and I'm grateful we didn't get slaughtered 7-1...would've probably been more although Brazil were horrendous. Still don't like Argentina as they historically cheat and have passed on their ways to their fellow compatriots, the Brazilians

It's about time the Germany rivalry was let go. They were only considered a rival because of the War(s) and using that as a reason for maintaining the rivalry is ever dwindling. Back in the 1960s when England and West Germany were two top football powerhouses, that fuelled the rivalry too but it's becoming ancient history now. It isn't even reciprocated anymore - Germany love a vistory over the Dutch, England is just another opponent. Hardly comparable to Oxford - Swindon where the rivalry is reciprocated both ways!
Good European football vs the diving, gamesmanship of South America? No content. Come on Germany!

Good question from the op, I'm siding with the Argies though, forgetting the Politics I just don't find the Germans' Football style at all exciting- very efficient- yes, as you might expect. Although similarly to Brazil Argentina are a shadow of some of their former teams- I think if they play their more natural game then the final need not be such a formality. Maybe res-erect the Argentinian ghosts of 1978?!
Plus, I prefer Corned beef to schnitzels!

Oh it has to be the Germans because of the Falklands. In all honesty Argentina don't look to have the depth in strength that the Germans have

It is a comfort to know that a pre-requisite for reaching a World Cup Final is to be beaten by the British in war! he Germans vill vin. Is inevitable Ja?

I'm going Argentina, purely because there is something about keeping the 'no European team even won in South America' hoodoo in place that appeals to me - not that we're ever likely to be the ones to break it but that's not the point.
Germany are the better team, but dare I say an Argentinian win would require a more entertaining game in order to overcome the German steamroller ??

Some bloke i know needs Argies to win for £130K think he put £10K on them 2 years ago at 12/1. Think odds of 12/1 and a £10K stake would mean £120K, unless you count his stake back, being pedantic?! I had a much lower stake on Sunderland to beat Leeds in the 1973 Cup final -where Leeds were red hot favourites being 'The' team of that Era.

Had this dilemma at London 2012 when my lad won tickets to the hockey Germany v Argentina. Someone asked who I'd be 'supporting' Dislike both of them I did predict Germany 2-1 with Klosse scoring first but that's gone out the window?

Why the 'dislike' for Germany? They don't dive or cheat, play the game fair efficiently and possess talent in all areas.
It's just jealousy. Their approach is top-notch from the grass roots to the national team where second best is not tolerated. They focus on technique and teamwork, possess character and the day a German side fails to qualify for the finals of a Euros or World Cup will never come. They don't know how not to qualify - England do.
The FA should be modelling their approach to the English game as much as possible on the German game if they're serious about the success of the England team. More coaches, more focus on youth and, dare I say it, some rejigged ownership rules in the Prem would be a major step - fannying around with ideas 'B' teams is not the way forward.

Pleased the Germans won it.

Glad the Germans won. I thought they were the best team and something we should aspire to as a nation. And we have a very long way to go. No BS B leagues will get us to the World Cup final. It's sweeter as I can't stand the Argentinians and all the fuss over Messi. Another world class player that badly went missing on the big stage. Scoring a 100 goals in Spain is great, but meaningless in the World Cup.

Lionel Messi given the Golden Ball?! How the magnificent Boateng, Schweinsteiger or Robben didn't win it I don't know. There were 20 more players more deserving than Messi to win that award.
