Man utd new manager says he has been anti this match for ten years. And looking on bbc website at the previous winners it would be fair to say nobody remembers the match afterwards.
Hasn't Van Gaal got a large head?

It's not the game either side want but it's not exactly new. Already seeing what we can expect from van Gaal next season. Penalties are all about luck when he loses but he was a tactical genius a few days before when changing keepers. Now having a good moan about the 3rd place play off game when he could be looking at killing off Brazil!! He'll definitely fit in at Old Trafford!!!!

He has a point, a compelte waste of time and should be quietly dropped from all future tournaments. Just heard someone on the radio suggest that he should just field the XI that didnt start the semi and perhaps shift them around a bit with Kruhl up front....
It would also mean the proper final could be on the Saturday night, which would surely be better.

Yes to be fair it is a total waste of time.
I remember when England were in it (Lineker/ Gazza year) and nobody could really be bothered to watch it- it is such a disappointment to go out in the semi finals. Without looking it up, I can't even remember what happened in that game (it really didn't and doesn't matter)
Surely everybody now just wants to go home and have a holiday before pre season training starts in a few weeks time.

Without looking it up, I can't even remember what happened in that game (it really didn't and doesn't matter) Oh, I do. Peter Shilton doddering around the area with his zimmer frame and Toto Schillaci nabbing the golden boot as a result. Then we had the German party in 2006 and the quickest goal ever scored four years prior. The third place game is always a laugh.

There is the matter of an extra $2million in prize money, plus it is still a competitive fixture which will accumulate points for the FIFA rankings. This will help get the team into pot 1 for the next European Championships/World Cup, thus increasing the chance of a favourable draw.
Then there's the matter of pride by making up for the semi-final disappointment by giving their fans something to cheer about. For that reason, I think Brazil will win it, as they have the most apologising to do to their fans after their 7-1 thumping, whereas the Dutch I would suspect really couldn't give a rat's arse!

They don't have a third place play-off for the Euros so there is little reason to have one for the World Cup either. It really is a pointless fixture, but as others have mentioned, a couldnt-give-a-shit scorefest which often entertains.
Since we're on the discussion of Van Gaal's odd appearance, how much does Patrick Kluivert look like a overgrown 6 year old?!

I can assure you the Dutch will be trying. Nothing is worse than finishing a tournement with 2 defeats in a row. Rest assured van Gaal will motivate them. It's good practise for him for the job he has todo at manure.
I feel it's going to be a good game with plenty of goals. Winnar? God only knows, but don't miss it.

van Persie is in my dream team, so his goal for the Netherlands (not Holland) will help me in that sense

So the Dutch got their 3rd place and King Louis can go to his new kingdom with head held high and a few new players (de Vrij, Du Pay maybe). On Dutcht tv after the match Robben said that van Gaal had told there is always room for him at manure. Robben replied that he was happy at Bayern. Van Gaal has gone up in my eyes and has emerged as a true man manager and tactition. Manure should do better now. Who knows, maybe baldy and junior will have 2 successful teams this year. Noew, Come on Germany, thrash the Argies.

He was tactically outwitted by an inferior Argie team, as was it different yr neck of the woods?
Come Argentina, thrash the krauts.

Don't think he was outwitted, just 2 teams playing the same waiting game.

Football needs managers with an outspoken view - and the freedom to do what they want with their team, without the politics of football dictating otherwise. Rather close to home, eh?
