Sounded like Kitson & Smalley were dead on there feet when they came off, made me laugh though when Kitson was giving verbal to a pompey fan.

Flag looks fantastic, so good to see after there was a bit of a panic with it before kick off. Happy days! And whilst helping with the flag I didn't have time for the streamers and balloons, so we have ammo for next match!

Chaps I will do my best with photos I've got of the yellow army. Internet down at home. Pictures not to great but I will have a go when sober. Big respect to my friend who is a Pompey fan who took the pictures. She went on to say we were quiet at first but when the flag was unveiled the noise from the yellow army was loud, then we were crazy when the goals went in. Right karioke at local ive asked for Judas Priests UNITED WE STAND! Unfortunately they don't have that so Cold Plays Yellow it is then...with 8 pints on board. Have a great evening everyone YELLOWS YELLOWS YELLOWS!

That's our best first day win since 1984-5 when we beat Huddersfield Town 3-0 away in the Second Division. A championship season!

Thought we did to Portsmouth today what a lot of teams have done at the Kassam in the last few years - suss out the home game, and shut them down completely, while bullying them off the ball and taking the chances that came to us.
Sounds a bit stupid but I almost enjoyed the fact that we didn't create that many big chances today. Just a few opportunities to shoot, and every one of them dispatched quickly and skillfully. Even when we've been at our best since we got back in the league I don't think anyone would describe us as ruthless - hopefully that's changed.

Next Saturdays early match on sky is Accrington v Pompey. I bet they didn't expect them to be 23rd and 24th in the league Today's result will knock a few off the gate for that one. I can't imagine Accy will take as many as us, so that's 2,499 (but + 1 dog) off the attendance straight away Great day out. Great performance, great fans, great noise, the pasties at the ground were good as well....

Think we should thank Pompey GK John Sullivan as after Ertl elbowed Danny Rose and Whingy got straight onto Ertl's case Sullivan ran over and pulled him to one side, was told in pub last night that on Radio Oxford they thought it could be 2 reds being shown i think JS got Whingy out of trouble and should be thanked for that.

Can believe i missed this one! Had to settle for Barcelona v Santos on Friday (81000 to see Barca win 8-0). Not a patch on the Fratton Park game. In Andorra now and wifi at last. Just read thread end to end and so a big thank you to all who brought the game to life for me. Puzzled looks from tourists at my "out loud" comments reading thread over brekkie. Home for Bury. Hope danoufc enjoyed the game ..... benefiting from my holiday!

linkA good article in the Independent. They make Dave Kitson MOM which was my shout. He played a quietly influential role on the game. He was a calming presence in the first 20 and his efficiency on the ball and determination off the ball impressed. I thought DK could well be a disappointment but if he does this routinely he will be a major boost. Our defence looked pretty solid. Rose and Whing in front worked well. Rose is another signing who looks very promising - he contributed a lot yesterday and was definitely worth the shirt.

Not only did Kitson bring class and composure to the game but despite contrary reports he put himself around. We saw him chasing, harassing AND tackling the Pompey centre halves.
He had no chances so we ant judge yet whether he will be scoring many goals.
Hopefully he can keep this type of performance up.

I don't think I've ever seen a club and its fans hype themselves up and then fail to deliver when it mattered. You know what they say the bigger they are.... (Well actually there's 3 games against one club in the past 2 seasons, but you know what I mean.)

Whing and their goalie (Sullivan) were both at Brighton at the same time. Perhaps that's why Sullivan pulled Whingy away?

To be fair I had to crop the pic as it was over the 1mb limit The physio was very close running to him I did try to post a video but it was too big, don't know how to sort that

Great game, great atmosphere.
Not getting carried away, but that was a very good, and what would probably be an 'untypical' OUFC performance - summed up probably as 'clinical', a word I've not often used about our play.
Given the situation, the crowd, the occasion and going one-nil down, that has to rank as one of the best performances I've seen - even before the sending off we looked strong and in control.
The summer's done Alfie the world of good, looks to have an extra yard of pace - one criticism before was that sometimes he could be reluctant to take on his man and pass back/square. None of that yesterday.
