Have to say the Olympic Games coverage by the Beeb has been Terrific especially the track and field events both on TV and Five Live And Chris Evans' show, broadcast live this morning from the Olympic Park, was great. The swimming commentary was OK although Ian Thorpe Irritates me a bit. Thought Hugh Porter and Chris Boardman covered the cycling events really well after a difficult start with the Road Race on Day one.
Michael Johnson in the BBC studio as an analyst is bloody awesome. When he speaks - you listen!
Mike Costello, the BBC Five Live boxing and athletics commentator is a brilliant Broadcaster as is Paul Dickenson for BBC TV.

I've got some criticism of SOME of the camera work though, which is being done by another company on behalf of the BBC and all other TV networks.
During the cycle road races they spent too much time towards the end focused on the peleton rather than the medal chances, and the camera angles for some of the rowing has not helped interpretation of the races.
Overall, great choice of viewing though.

I heard Alan Green do the rowing yesterday afternoon and to my shock when he stops being such the pompous and arrogant arse as he is in football, he is actually a good commentator.

Dare I say it but too many channels?
Found myself having to channel hop much more than I expected.
And Inverdale is a bit of a knobber.
But credit where its due, they've pretty much nailed it on all platforms and media.

Got friends that Live in America, who are appalled by NBC's coverage.
First off they cut the 7/7 bombing memorial out of the opening ceremony broadcast (they showed it 2 hours after us) plus they talked all throughout the broadcast.
BBC has been top notch.

First off they cut the 7/7 bombing memorial out of the opening ceremony broadcast (they showed it 2 hours after us) plus they talked all throughout the broadcast. BBC has been top notch. I was living in America during the Beijing Olympics. Day of the 100m, I wake up and turn on NBC (it was on at about 9 in the morning on the East Coast) ready to see Usain Bolt make history. I find that they're not showing it until 7pm that evening! And that they've blocked all the online streams (or at least all those I can find at the last minute). Complete joke - made me realise that I always, always want to be in Britain for the Olympics. Not only because you want your own patriotic spin on things - but because the BBC's coverage is also flat out superb. And Simon - it's impossible to have too many channels. I've already watched 12 different sports today, and am looking forward to channel hopping through the afternoon and evening!

I just worry I'm missing something better on another one of their channels! :-) It's all good though

The BBC's coverage is superb. It's annoying when idiotic publications like the Daily Mail always try take a pop at it at every opportunity.

Got to say it has been fantastic.
Clare Balding is an utterly top drawer sports anchor. Knowledgable and obviously does her research.
I have loved Ian Thorpe too, able to speak with authority, but with a nice line in wit and sarcasm.

BBC doing what it does best. If I have 1 criticism though it is the use of Matt Baker and the other ex Blue Peter presenter, name escapes me. I just keep thinking CBBC whenever they are on. Complete contrast to the brilliant Micheal Johnson.

to counter the love-in, the beeb website coverage is worse than poor and the commentary on some sports has been poor (the early hockey rounds we just embarrassing, but tbf has improved a little). Also, I felt the coverage of Saturdays Olympics was a little unprofessional, congrats to Jess Ennis and all that but there were other competitors and competitions going on, it felt like she had her own prime-time TV channel at times.

'Cos other nations coverage is totally unbiased eh? Auntie beeb has its faults but when you compare it to the multi millions spent to make the likes of NBC an international joke id' rather the somewhat amateurish coverage from BBC since it at least knows (broadly) what its talking about. P.S. What exactly was wrong with the Hockey coverage?

Yup, I agree it is almost certainly better than everybody else's, I mainly posted as one-sided love-ins brings out my devils advocate side. I haven't heard any comments about the sky coverage but American sports coverage tends to be be so bad it becomes entertaining for comedic reasons. So the beeb is better than most but not perfect.
Re hockey coverage: Barry Davis was bought out of retirement to cover it and it showed! He clearly hadn't watched a game for at least ten years. He must of just been handed the 2012 rule book and gone through with a highlighter pen. Every few minutes he needs to tell us of how such a rule has changed since 1988 (I'm sure its for his benefit not ours). He has got better as the tournament has gone on.

Got to agree with this point, was trying to find out how the other 2 girls where getting on in the heptathalon, couldnt find the points table anywhere on the website, page after page of Ennis but nothing about the other 2. Also a critisism of the organisers, did anyone else notice on Saturday, our other long jumper was just about to take his final jump,he was in 5th and needed to improve by about 2cm to get a bronze, the most important jump of his life, what happened? the official stopped him jumping because they were intoducing the 10,000 metres runners ! So he had to sit down for about 10 minutes, fluffed his jump and missed out on a medal,it wasnt the start of the 10k just the introduction of the runners, which i think is a bit cringeworthy anyway.

That's because there isn't any. Broadcast rights in this country belong to the Beeb (who have licensed some companies a few broadcast rights (eg Eurosport)). I think the idea of separate channels for each sport has worked well. Made recording of your favourite sport a lot easier. Worst commentator IMO - Hugh Porter on cycling. Absolute rubbish. Best surprise - our men's gymnast team. Not a sport I have seen a lot of in the past - but they were good. Biggest disappointment - Tom Daley. When did John Inverdale ever sleep?. At Eton first thing every morning - at the Studio in Stratford every night at 10 pm. Favourite hobby - spot the interviewees favourite buzzword. Xara Philips ( Yer know). Ian Thorpe (Look) ? Le Chad (father of the South African swimmer) (Unbelievable). - Put Chris Kamara to shame. and just about everybody else - Amazing. But it has all been pretty good so far. Haven't seen a thing of Mike Bushell. Is he on the commentary team or perhaps even a contestant in something!. The mind boggles.

BBC have done a brilliant job for this year's Olympics, some of you have said how bad America's broadcast has been but I think BBC have brought it all together brilliantly. I like the fact that everyone seems to have a personality rather than just being monotone and boring.
This is my 200th Post!!!!!

My uncle in the States was raging about this. Truly mad. Not surprised - I am truly shocked I mean you could almost understand if it was the world cup or something, but the Americans love the Olympics and the 100m in particular! Truly makes you appreciate how lucky we are. This simply would not be tolerated in the UK or anywhere else in Europe (ie the real land of the free!).

Not entirely sure the Americans love the Olympics. Apparently, according to the man himself, the reason the great Michael Johnson is commentating on the BBC is because he's virtually unknown in the USA as the American public - in general - has little or no interest in athletics.
