I thought this deserved a new thread as some won't read the smoke bomb thread.
An Oxford fan got a 2 month prison sentence today for a smoke bomb incident at Plymouth. I know the lad, and I'm devastated for him. It's a truly over the top, ridiculous sentence. Some people avoid prison when they beat the crap out of someone. Says it all.
I'm hoping an appeal will see him released. Good luck in there mate

When you read about low lives getting away with prison for stealing off vulnerable people and beating up OAP'S etc, it does seem very harsh . A smoke bomb = prison are you sure?

I agree Joe. My brother was sorting out an appeal my mum said. I'm gobsmacked.

Makes you worry about the legal system here when you learn about this kind of sentence. What are they trying to prove when they hand out a prison term for something so minor. I hope the appeal goes well and best of luck with it.

Seems an absolute joke to me but thats the problem with the law in this country, it is happier with the easy life of prosecuting minor offences than going after the really nasty cases.

He has also received a 6 year football ban. What a f*cking JOKE

That is unbelievably harsh. It was a smoke bomb, not a flare, or firework, and he didn't even let it off.

As I said on the other thread absolutely disgraceful. He would have had lesser punishment had he ran on the pitch.

An Oxford fan got a 2 month prison sentence today for a smile bomb incident at Plymouth. A Smile bomb sounds totally adorable, to be honest

Was stood behind the guy at plymouth on the day, wasnt even lit neither was he aggresive to stewards , i remember the stewards over reacting about it all , really pisses me off he got sent down, why not kick him out and leave it , see the fact he was just trying to create some atmosphere.. Oh no.... Or look at what ajax fans get up to in europe notmfar away... Smoke weed drink beer, graffiti banners and flares for fun,,, sadly not in this country ... Free him ....

6 years. What did the judge say in his explanation on passing that. Absolutely ludicrous decision.

Very harsh sentence even if it was clearly a prohibited item.
If you don't mind me asking a) how old is he and b) does he have any previous?
Struggling to see the rationale behind banging him up.

35 years old and no football previous. From what i'm told a smoke bomb is classed as a fire arm. 👎

He drives to most games, doesn't drink so has a tea or coffee, isn't out looking for trouble. Takes his young nephew I think to home games. I doubt he'll get off with less than the minimum 3 year ban, but hope he is out of jail ASAP. Totally disproportionate.

I can understand a banning order (not 6 years though) but the prison sentence? What was he charged under for that?

I think you need to cast your mind back a couple of decades. The reason football laws were tightened up was because of what was happening (and for other money making reasons but the point still stands). (I'm not advocating this sentence btw)

I don't agree with the whole smoke bomb stuff.
BUT. 2 months in jail is disproportionate to the crime. If he had let if off, then it's a slightly different matter, but even so. A neighbours son got sent down for 18 months for a pretty stupid assault/drug theft that he was in a group for. He didn't hit the lad or do anything apart from verbals, left when it got silly, confessed fully to the police voluntarily, had no previous and was jailed. He was a silly lad, but the bloke that broke into my folks that is a serial burglar got 2 years for multiple break ins. And that was the 3rd time he's been sent down.
By all means ban him for breaking the ground regs, and maybe some community service as a warning.
I take it smoke bombs are now off the menu?

I was a part of the 15 or so youth that were kicked out at Barnet away for Supposedly setting off a smoke bomb. Just to warn you all, they dont care if you weren't involved, if you're within 10 yards of one they'll kick you out. Also, they have to right to ask for your details either, unless they can prove you've done something.
