The ironic thing with multicultarism was the the lack of white people in the West Indian immigration. Nothing wrong in that whatsoever, just funny how multicultarism has certain historial limits/boundaries.
Overall the ceremony has been very, very good. It's hit the right tone. Certain bits went on too long, but it has been well organised, co-ordinated has had the right balance between pompous circumstance and humour. It was also relevant.

Pretty underwhelming so far for the money spent on it.. Sorry, Disagree. Sums us up perfectly. We're not China with thousands of clones in perfect harmony. There's humour, industry, history, emotion. Everything that makes us what we are. I hope I'm not stealing stemerrits thunder when I say I agree with you. Well summed up.

British history summed up, we don't need thousands of dancers and neon lights to put on a show

The best tribute I can pay is that in the space of 4hrs it converted me from miserable cynic in to someone positively buzzing for the events to begin.
Outstanding.
Only downside for me was each speakers inability to better learn and memorise their speeches. The Queen only had to say 10 words!
GOOD LUCK TEAM GB!

I thought it was quality, especially the bit with rings being made/hoisted up. We dared (or Danny Boyle) dared to do something a bit different and it came off. Anyone can put on a laser/firewotrk show if they have the money, it takes wit and imagination do what we did.

Absolutely fantastic Opening Ceremony. Well done Danny Boyle - you've done the nation proud. Shows everything that's 'great' about Great Britain. Even had a reference to poor old Michael Fish's infamous 'No hurricane' weather prediction!
Best bit was The Queen and James Bond skydiving out of the helicopter and the forging of the Olympic rings.

Brilliantly carried out. Only one query. Do you think a resume of British history will go down too well with the rest of the world? Will they actually understand it without extensive explanation?

It wasn't really our history that was explained though. It was a series of statements, some with historical examples. If it was history that was the main point of it, then he forgot the Celts, Romans, Vikings, Saxons, Normans (1066 is pretty big as omissions go), The plague, The war of the roses, The tudors, The stewarts, the formation of the union etc I could go on. That probably wouldn't have fitted in well enough in the time, and if it had done, it would have been awful.
That said, it was a great celebration of what Britain is, in an inward way that most foreigners probably wouldn't get. But who cares? They wanted Britain, that's what they got.

I thought it was great. I loved the 'forging the rings' bit, and liked the humour that was present. Oh and anyone who puts the Pistols into an Olympic opening ceremony and makes it very plain to all watching that the NHS is one of our great institutions has got to be some sort of genius.
Given that the Olympics is the most multicultural thing in the wolrd (more than the UN) and London is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, I can't see why anyone (apart from those with a bee in their bonnet) would object to that aspect to the ceremony.
Downsides? Well the entrance of the athletes was (probably unavoidably) very long, and Macca was fairly rubbish.
Well done Danny Boyle - from an old cynic!

Been doing a bit of searching...apparently the olympic salute was similar to the nazi one, so it was changed since the 2nd WW to the left arm, maybe true, maybe not....never seen it used in the games before.

Do you mean Caliban's Dream - Underworld? Underworld were responsible for the music for the whole ceremony werent they? Was a good choice, they made some cracking tunes.

Underworld also did the music for the Industrial Revolution bit. Its called 'And I will Kiss'. Danny Boyle got it spot on choosing Underworld who he used in Trainspotting. It was just perfect.
