It was just a matter of how many goals we would score not if we would win or not, that was a given to us that season, brilliant times. That attacking line up was something else, absolutely superb. It is amazing that the strikers that smashed the division below didn't have a chance of being in that side. Shows what a genius Jim Smith was, ably supported by the likes of Maurice Evans, Ray Graydon and Ken Fish. Biggins, Vinter, Whatmore. 3 great players in our promotion the previous year. Biggins scored a shed load but I don't think Smith was ever convinced.

Just noticed our goals scored and goal difference, on another level to the rest of the division.

We were awesome at home that season, only 2 draws and 1 defeat away from perfection. Just seemed to smash teams by 4 or 5 every week. Away was more mixed, think we finished with a 7-7-7 record.

Man Utd fan asked if I was going to go and support Oxford City today.... I just said would you go and support Man City if Man Utd were out of the cup. t*at. Must admit I was gutted for them, but go and support them! Man Utd fan? How is Surrey today?

Must say, that was cruel. Missed out on a replay thanks to a goal in the 95th minute.

Would swap Russia for Poland in your best group scenario - not sure you really want to be playing the hosts. Just have a feeling we will get Brazil out of Pot 1.

Damn it, Cook edged to first slip. Going to be a testing next few overs. Left-Right combination at the crease now, hope we can rotate it a bit.

Reading in 1994-95. The PL was being restructured to have 20 teams in it, reducing it from 22. Four teams went down from the PL and only two went up which was the champions of the second tier and then the playoff winners. I thought the reduction to 20 teams was in the 80s as in our third season in div 1 we only had 40 games instead of 42 as in the previous 2 seasons. That put it down to 21 teams then the following year it went to 20 That adjustment happened the year we beat Luton 3-2 at their place I'm our last away game of the season to stay up, Charlton played in play offs with 3 teams from div 2. It went back again a few years later however.

I just saw it shared on Facebook, and our ex keeper Paul Reece commented, which got me thinking about that Derby County game. Best OUFC goalkeeping performance ever?? youtu.be/kCCtR6YyLIAWithout doubt the best I have seen. Liked Reece, if he had been a foot taller would have been one hell of a keeper

I think we have no chance, just too fragile at the top of the order. Bowlers will hold their own, but you won't win many games when you start at 20-3 all the time.

Nice gesture from the Oxford City manager thanking OUFC for the support. Jonah is a top bloke. Was speaking to my brother yesterday, first congratulations message he received was from Mr Eales, the 2 clubs are close at the moment.

I thought Swindon missed out because of financial irregularities although that was mid eighties Swindon won the playoffs the season they were denied promotion, think they beat Sunderland in the final, who were then promoted in their place.

We were bloody awful in the first half, possibly the worst 45mins I have ever seen the club play. Didn't Portsmouth miss out on promotion by 1 point that season as well? Goal difference, they lost to Leicester in the play off semi, who then lost to the scum in the final. So if we hadn't scored that equaliser,Pompey would have gone up,West Ham would have been in the play offs and the scum might never have played in the top flight. Pompey had to wait another 10 years before they got to the top flight. Damn, that takes the gloss off that memory then!

Too early to say. Let's see what happens when they face Barça, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern when it matters, in the knockout stages.

Oh the issues the modern football supporter faces... I remember the days of only knowing other scores at half time was when they were read out over the tannoy. I remember when you had to buy a programme to get the fixture listing, and wait for the scores to be hooked onto the Cuckoo Lane Manor Club stand with tin numbers
