I don't think that is necessarily unusual though. I'm sure there are many other countries which can boast a similar record. I think you're giving in to media hype if you truly believe that we are getting away with more than we should as regards terrorism, and you are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think the UK should somehow not be the target of such attacks. You asked "Why is it that there has been only one major successful terrorist attack by jihadis in Britain in the last ten years?" and I answered your question. There would have been more had it not been for police intervention or failure by the extremists to complete their missions. I don't see how you can deny that.Had the bombs gone off at the right time, then the effects would have been catastrophic, and in some cases far worse than July 7th. The fact they failed doesn't make it any less serious an offence. Where have I denied that? All I am saying is that you seem to be claiming that the rate of attacks is unusual in Britain because we are an easy target. Your own evidence would in fact suggest we are not an easy target because all the attempts to blow things up the terrorists didn't bungle have been foiled, bar one. I also suggest that such a rate of attacks, foiled or otherwise is not unusual for a country like Britain. I just feel that in order to have a sideways dig at the EU and British immigration policy you are making arguments which don't make an awful lot of sense.

Maybe France, Germany have a similar level of failed attacks - I don't know. But that doesn't mean we should do something about it.

I agree, we should be doing something about it. If what we are doing now works well we should reinforce that and I agree that granting asylum to nutters is generally a bad idea. One (among very few IMO) redeeming features of a conservative government is that i doubt the likes of Hamza will be let in in future. My main point was about what you do with them once you've let them in and they start cuting up. On every other point I think we're in pretty much full agreement.

I'm sorry but you are putting yourself at risk in that situation. Not that i condone what's happened but wandering about in the middle of a rebellion, whether those involved are muslim or not is always going to be risky. I don't think you can make an anti-muslim point (which is what you are obviously trying to do) on that basis.

So a woman gets attacked, sexually, and you blame her for going out! it's not her fault she was attacked. You wouldn't blame a woman for going out if she was attacked here so why there? I haven't noticed many women in these countries protesting and the ones that are are covered up, so aren't the ones who don't cover up allowed to protest? are the Women of the Egyptian copts allowed to protest?

On South Sudan, I believe George Athor, the alleged perpetrator, is a christian disaffected with his colleagues in the SPLA and SPLM. Of course there are claims (which may be true) that the Khartoum beasts are supplying him with weapons but weapons don't seem hard to obtain in that region anyway. I don't know much about Sudan but I doubt very much that islam is much more than a front for the tribes in charge of that kleptocracy. You could try reading Frantz Fanon's "Wretched of the earth" (?) which has some interesting and bleeding obvious things to say about post-colonial states.
Seemed to be quite a lot of women protesting in Cairo on Jazeera's coverage, some in hijab, some not; different to tell whether they're Copts or not since they look the same.
The copts are a christian sect, so presumably they don't have to be allowed to protest?

No haven't read Frantz Fanon's book but I used to talk to the South Sudanese guys who used to work in the Blue Nile restaurant/take away on Cowley road, they always had interesting things to say and gave me a real insight of what life is like for the South Sudanese.

Just like if you were a war correspondant there'd be a higher than normal chance of you getting shot.

Agree with you though about Islam being backwards, but then what religion isn't?
