What is the fascination with it? Why all the 'support the priory'? Is it only cos it's close to the ground? Always been told the priory is a bit 'rough'? And before you all start bashing me, I'm only asking WWWYKI

You are quick to ask questions. Yet are slow to answer the ones directed at you.
So, where do you drink pre match? Do you not read these forums with regard to Tess and Charlotte? how about what Tim does for OUFC in the way of raising funds?

If carlsberg did football pubs, they would probably all be like the priory.
Perfectly accommodating and willing to bend over backwards for the fans. Good beer and food at fair prices. Just a couple of reasons it gets the praise and support on here.

It's the closest thing to a supporters club we have at our ground.

The priory is basically run by volunteers and they are all oufc season ticket holders or fans, home and away, pop over have a look,as for rough the grounds/facilities are poor but then maintenance/repairs/refurb were never going to be part of a lease that firoka control !!, the pub is run by proper people , the only thing plastic here is the cups we serve the beer in.....

Junior get down off of your high horse and stop being so defensive, he's only asking a question.
The reason I drink there is because of the effort Tim (landlord) puts in to make it a good atmosphere. He donates certain revenues (car park fee etc) either to oufc youth development, 12th man or more recently tess and Charlotte (two little girls that needed help). The marquee does real ales and cider as Tim listens to what people want - unlike the other options such as bowlplex, quad bar or lindleys. These extra options mean that it is very quick to get served also (however in my opinion the can bar is too expensive).
Despite all that Tim does for the club the priory isn't a goldmine and it struggles during the 'off season' and to a lesser extent during the week. If we don't support Tim and the pub than there won't be much in it for him (and his young family) then god only knows where we will go.
That is why I go there. Up to you where you drink.

No high horse here. Drink where you like, but to claim you've never heard of the priory or what it brings to OUFC and it's fans is a bit of a pisstake to me.

Also to say he's never heard of tess or charlotte again IMO is a p*ss take. Even if you don't drink in the priory you would struggle not to notice the fundraising around the ground.
Both families have been in the local press and the Sullivans were presented to the crowd and featured in the match day programme.
So on that basis I find it hard to believe you've never heard of either.

I think it's easy to get caught up in the priory ecosystem - I went with a mate who attends regularly (but doesn't drink) and I had to explain about the two causes.
This guy says he doesn't 'do charity' so he probably hasn't taken too much notice. That said a forum user would be hard pressed to be oblivious to it all.

So on that basis I find it hard to believe you've never heard of either. Not everyone buys local papers and It's quite easy to miss, or not hear, or not take notice of, the odd match presentation. So, I would think there could be plenty of people who don't know about these two causes... and people also don't read every thread on this forum if it appears of no interest to them.

Thanks for all the comments, and all though I buy the programme I rarely read it ( I don't know why ). And I have heard of the priory but didn't know all the fundraising and so on it dose for the club. I've heard the names Tess and Charlotte but don't know their story or why they need some fundraising. And as for the presentation, if it was last season I don't think anyone could understand a thing Rosie said over the tannoy I meant know offence to anyone, if it occurred.

I didn`t take it as a dig just replying to a post , but the draught beer is too expensive, reluctantly put it up but would have been happier keeping it at £3.00 a pint, but thats the nature of the business, all expense, taxes on taxes , licences for everything , its all tooooo much , dying trade....

Just wondering whether we are likely to see Fosters cans back or something, I know they are a much of a muchness but personally prefer the fosters. May be a cost implication between the two or something which is why these havent been around? Or do people prefer the Carlsberg? If so what about a slightly stronger one like Export or something? That Carlsberg goes right through me at the moment from about 1515 through to about 1600.

Entirely your right and entirely your choice, but I honestly hope you're never in the position then to have to rely upon it.

I tend to say I don't do charity because it is literrally 1/2 that I'll donate/fundraise. I only do that charity because that has a personal reference to me and try not to get 'sucked In' to all the other ones ! Gotta look after number one first ! WWWYKI
