Very, very easy to criticise retrospectively. While I 100% didn't agree with salaghaf's opinion, unsurprisingly, let's not look back and call him stupid. None of us could see the future at that point, and to be fair, Clarke had made a couple of gaffes. Nothing any worse than anyone else, but when a defence is lacking in confidence it's easy to look to the goalkeeper as the source of the problem (although i don't think it was in this case). Salaghaf was just doing what plenty of other fans have done and stated an opinion - why is it any more ridiculous than criticising Wright, a man who many consider the centre-back messiah incarnate? Plenty of people have done just that and had no such response. Yes , we all make silly comments, and is easy to criticise, but this was obviously so silly. IMO

I said it on the first page of this thread and I will say it again, this man is clearly insane and should be sectioned. I can understand that from the form we were in defensively people were looking for solutions, but dropping arguably our most consistent player seemed as ridiculous to me then as it does now. He kept an unbelievable amount of clean sheets last season and has probably pulled off better saves this year than he did last season.

After reading some of you replies i feel that i should respond.
It is clear that Clarke is a good goalkeeper. I stated that in my initial thread. I also said that he makes superb saves in a later thread.
But after 23 games i suggested a change for at least 1 game.
I also stated that a lot of the goals we have been conceding were down to poor organisation/motivation - especially at set pieces. In my opinion Clarke was partly to blame for the poor organisation. Ok, other's can be blamed too. But Clarke is not perfect. His ineffectiveness at set pieces was obvious. I still stand by this. At Stevenage his placement was not great on occasions. We could have easily have conceded in that game. I was not at the other two games - so it would be unfair to comment on those.
Is it insane to request a change after 23 games without a clean sheet? Fortunately our strike force have got us out of jail on many of those occasions.
Benox - i note your comments about last season, and you use of the word "probably". You are allowed your own opinions. Just because mine are different to yours does that make me insane?
What evidence do you have to suggest that he has been our most consistent player this season? Do you mean consistently conceding goals? - if you do then i agree with you.
Clarke, in Wilder's mind, is our long term no.1. I have no doubts about that. But if he is going to hack it in division 1 (and yes - i really do believe that we could go up this year) then he must improve in certain areas.
It is very easy to shoot me down now - but you know what they say about hindsight.
I still stick by my earlier posts. I hope that i am not mad. And if we go another 20+ games without a clean sheet then it is very likely that i will be asking for a change in goal again.

A deeper analysis would surely be more useful. The defence consists of centre halves, full backs, holding midfield players, and indeed the entire team - defending from the front I think it's called.

Having seen Eastwood play in Reserve Action and warming up before kick-off, including holding fort for shooting practice, I dread the day Ryan Clarke is injured or sent-off.
Ryan Clarke is one of the best keepers in the division. He has some weaknesses but then if he didn't he would not be plying his trade at Tier Four. His positioning is an area that I think he needs to improve on.
The man has won us as many points as any other, point blank saves, one-on-ones, penalty stops etc. He has done nothing to deserve being dropped.
As the above poster mentions, defending starts at the front and Clarke is the last in that chain.
