Take the 3 points all day.
This team is solid, dependable, decent passers, works hard, no prima donnas. But just lacks and sign of pace, flair and excitement. Payne is the only player close to having that spark, that bit of magic to make something from nothing in the way maguire or hylton would. Add two pacey wingers willing to make runs with or without the ball and it would be a very very good side, until then we will rely on false pen decisions and long shot for goals.
Nice to see a win at home though

Huge, huge result. Listening in it sounded even steven so nicking the result will really give the players momentum and confidence that have been lacking for a little while.

Bit of a smash and grab but we kept going to the end and probably deserve a bit of luck in the league. A nice 3pts. Thought Rothwell made a big impact when he came on. Lots of energy and very positive in his play.

The Checkatrade is much maligned but you have to feel that the last gasp winner on Tuesday probably gave the players that belief that they could also find one here. Excellent stuff.
Elsewhere, big result for Pompey at Charlton, Shrewsbury really stumbling and Northampton absolutely thumped. I'd say they're the only team who look really nailed on to go down at the minute. Makes our loss to them the other week all the more frustrating.

Went and writing this from the bowels of the stadium.
We played well. Deserved the win. Playing out from the back was measured, and effective. We passed our way out of a lot of problems tonight, which impressed me. That said, we put our laces through it too.
Game utterly fell apart second half as 'don't make an error that loses the game' football began to appear - which was a shame.
Full backs impressed me. Generally we looked wobbly at the back, like one good long ball would carve us open. Don't think Eastwood is the same keeper we had last year, starting to question his judgement - which I think is linked to our frailty to direct football. Midfield duo looked good - solid and creative. I think Ledson could be out the team for a while - Xemi offers more going forward. Rothwell made a big difference. Wingers floated in and out the game as wingers tend to do, bless them.
My biggest criticism is Thomas. He is being asked to a job he's not very good at. There was actually an accident when he won a flick on and the runners just stared in amazement! Obika makes us a much better team, but as we know, isn't as predatory. The ball just would not stick when Thomas was on. Whereas their front two gained good positions when they won the long balls.
Overall impressed, despite a generally dire 30 mins from 60 - 90.

Why were Donny so vexed at the end? Sent from my SM-G930F using proboards 'Cos we scored in Fergie time! For all that he was utterly crap, the ref at least wasn't fooled by their player feigning injury during injury time, and added on extra minutes.

Left before the goal, what a numpty Me too, Went when their guy was getting treatment thinking the ref would blow as soon as the free kick was taken, but the ref was shit as per but did something right and played to the final whistle by adding on the extra time on top of the extra time which was correct. 3 points 2 more than was expected.

So effectively 8 points from the play offs for the optimistic supporters and 10 points from the trap door for the more pessimistic souls. It's been a strange season, we've stuttered along somewhat and there's a sense that we haven't really got going yet which all makes it hard to believe we're 21 games in. All things considered though I'm pretty content with where we're at. Peps doing ok, he's still got plenty of credit in the bank as far as I'm concerned

Fergie JR looked annoyed when Mowatt just kept the ball in play in the build up to the goal. He thought it was out and went apoplectic. Then when we scored, he was on the pitch and should have finished the game in the stands. If his players had defended properly and not spent so much time rolling around on the floor, the game would have been over. He'd never admit it, but the fat wuss at CB should stay on his feet and not take injury. Nor their time wasting.
The Ref was dreadful though. So many awful decisions and silly cards given out. The worst decision was not penalising Marquis for the nasty little kick out at Ricardinho. The irony of seeing their players moaning about the penalty when it was the very thing they had done all game!
Glad we got 3 points.

Top result. Well done Josh Ruffels too. What a belting strike!
Nipped up to the watch St Albans vs Oxford City this afternoon which ended 1-1. City visably tired in the second half after bossing the first (FA Cup games and games in hand probably the factor) so a draw was a good and fair result. Jack Stevens had a cracking game - lots of shots stopped and he marshalled the defence well. He was complicit in their equaliser having given away a silly free kick by picking up the ball when on the edge of the area but otherwise he looks really solid. I’ve love to see him get a run out with us if we have a run of meaningless games at the end of the season.
In an apt move as this forum enters its final days, the missus has bought some quince jelly for cheese for this evening. She knows how to see out the forum in style!
