All that talk of chippy made me think this thread had turned into a Chris Wilder one. Phew One Chippy is arrogant, dismissive of history, miserable, grumpy, unfriendly, and Northern. The other Chippy isn’t.

I have lived away from Oxfordshire for years mostly in London and also spending time in various us parts of the country through work. But in the past couple of weeks I have been in Oxfordshire most days. What has happened to our great county? No manners anymore, just lots of fat women in leggings. Also most people seem to be be dressed in cheap Primark crap, whole families looking awful. My biggest disappointment was the lack of manners and community. Being away I try and ignore some of the yokel nonesense but when I was young we had a sense of belonging and a togetherness. Not being funny but the general Oxfordshire people and community spirit is just not there anymore!!250,000 additional residents to a small island every year for 15 years will do that eventually. Add in non-affordable housing where people actually want to live, terrible roads and transport links, then pave and build poor-quality accommodation over the outskirts of pleasant towns around the county and fill the housing estates with certain groups and you'll achieve massive turnover in the quality and type of person living somewhere. There is no such thing as 'community' in 2017. We're now 'global'... Tony Blair said it would be better this way and of course he wouldn't lie for personal gain. Wonder What "certain groups" old "Bash the muslims" is on about? Young Farmers? Vegans? People who like pictures of Ainsley Harriot?

Is this thread some kind of honey trap to identify the old codgers on the forum? Kids these days... If it is then it got me hook line and sinker!

Some parts of Oxfordshire definitely but I doubt you'll find another part of the country that isn't like that these days. Now Ireland is a different matter all together! Always a warm welcome, smile and pleasantness whenever I visit there for work.

Well, people of Oxfordshire, you certainly seem to be letting the side down! No manners. Just lots of fat women in leggings. Most people dressed in cheap Primark crap. Lack of community spirit. No style, pride or class. And all of this observed in the past couple of weeks, and definitely not generalised bunkum. Tut tut everyone. Totally agree - dreadful generalisation. If he was referring to somewhere like Woking I'd understand but Oxfordshire?! no way....... I'l have you know, young man, that Woking is chavtastic!

The first point is undeniable. Before I moved to Oxfordshire some 30 years ago I lived in North Herts, a region ahead of Oxford in only 1 respect - it was (and has been) swallowed into the London suburbs faster. People there used to talk about local spirit, old people with local accents - the same things you're mentioning. In the past 30 years South Oxon has gone a long way from a rural area facing a developed local centre towards suburbanisation. I'm afraid this is why people are ruder, that they eat worse and dress poorly is probably more to do with the calamitous reduction in actual wage power for the unskilled, uneducated and unwashed. Within 5 years it will be time for me to fly, into life's mystery (to quote Richman J), or at least further from the Great Wen. Opposite is true in Chippy, 30 years ago there was a great sense of local pride, spirit and community, plus the best accent in the county. Then the Chipping Norton set moved in. There was still a good variety of local accents in the Chequers when I was last there, old pal old boy.

Played golf in Wicklow during the summer, met some lovely people and had some mad nights with them too 🍻

Chipping Norton as Islington: gentrification. I'm against it.

Clarkson is part of the Chipping Norton set which includes the likes of David Cameron and Rebecca Brookes. They are not ‘true’ Chippy and never will be.
