3 IN MIDFIELD!!!!!!!!! whenever we play two central players it does not work! Can’t play Henry and hall! Two luxury players. Having Ruff in there just gives the midfield more control. Hopefully the swede will be back soon!

Spot on. Problem is, it's not easy to solvecsuch fundamental faults. In an ideal world, we would go down to Plymouth, sit tight and compact and hit them on the break. But do we have the pace in the side to do that? Maybe. Just. But not in this formation. I think we should look at 4321. With Obika, Hall and Thomas all up top. Playing on the break and running channels. And then play Ruffles, Ledson and one other in central midfield told to be tight and disciplined. Not sure we should be sitting against Plymouth. I understand we need to tighten the ship and gain confidence but surely we have to have a go at Plymouth. The pace isn’t there and Obika isn’t doing enough to start. I thought Thomas was terrific yesterday, but he’s so unbelievable isolated up there. Jack Payne would get a lot more assists if he had willing runners beyond an opposition back line. Takeover or not, Pep should get the next window to sort out this mess of a squad. When I say mess, it’s not hideous. However, it is woefully unbalanced with a severe lack of pace. There are too many big earners, too many players, too many bottlers and too many injury prone players. You couldn’t convince me that the two players we let go last January wouldn’t get in this side! I think it needs a major upheaval in January if DE is still here it won’t be but if a takeover does go ahead the new owners will want a shake up as they hopefully will want to protect their investment.

I would love to go 4-4-2 but we simply can’t.
1) Because we don’t have 2 good strikers
2) It would mean leaving Payne out

Two observations I made yesterday:
1) Ricardinho put in one of the best crosses you'll ever see, certainly at this level. Thomas and Obika were both on the field and neither got anywhere near it
2) Eastwood walks just like Ace Ventura. I'll only ever be able to know him as 'Ace' from now on.

I'm thinking back to half time at Peterborough where we were a goal down, Hall was off injured, and we were staring down the barrel of 4 defeats on the bounce. Struggling to see a win today, so will go 1-2 Northampton and hope that I am again very pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately you haven’t been!

While I agree with a number of those comments about the failings of the current squad, I really cannot see that the magical January window will be the answer and all our fears laid to rest. Which decent players of the standard we require are going to want to de-camp to a mid-table league one side guided by a clueless manager? I think that as long as we are a mid-table League 1 side and there is money to be spent then there is no reason at all that we should not be able to strengthen. My concerns are: 1) that we may not be mid-table 2) that there may be a disconnect between manager and recruitment team - very few of those who came in August look like classic OUFC signings of the last three years. 3) believe it or not we already have a large and pretty expensive squad, not many of whom are obvious targets. The mistakes made in July and August present a major structural challenge.

Only just seen the goals. Ledson being diapossed didn't help but the situation wasn't totally desperate at that point. Martin didn't stay on his feet, was too easily beaten then tried and failed with a (poor) rugby tackle. If it had been successful it would have been a red card and penalty probably leading to an even worse second half situation.
With Nelson out and Raglan still some way from starting we have problems.

I'm not too keen to take a pop at Pep.
Recruitment is hugely important and we were screwed on that by the timing of Mapp's departure. Just look at how we lost out on the lad from Partick.
Pep was playing catch-up - undoubtedly we had missed out on other targets - and I don't believe for one second that some of the guys we ended up with were even close to beign third or fourth choice. Payne and Henry probably the exceptions.
Moreover, I don't believe - and never have done - that he is dealing with anywhere near the budget Mapp has last season. The eollection of hasbeens, crocks, wannabees and whatevers from obscure Euro leagues is a recruitment policy tied up by a shoestring.
He has had no funds to play with. I am convinced of that. And why not? If Eales is on the way out the last thing he's gonna do is release the code to the safe. Remember that pre-season when we brought in only Hylton?
But I do agree the 'we need to learn' is faintly ridiculous. If there was any point to the recruitment is was (and this was the only possible + that I could see) was that they had bags of experience, bags of know-how to manage games. So quite what's going on there I don't know.

The mistakes made in July and August present a major structural challenge. Looking at the players we bought in over the summer there is still evidence of influence from the recruitment team. I would suggest Kelleher, Raglan, Obika (wasn't MApp after him?), Raglan (here already), Payne, Mowatt all fit the blueprint for us previously. I would possibly add Mousinho to that also. That leaves Henry (I think a decent signing), Xemi (clearly Pep signing), Pekalski (could have been flagged by the recruitment team?) - then Ricardinho, Wiiliamson, Mehmeti, Van kessel, Tiendalli. The final 5 *i think* are on one year deals, so not sure where the risk is? Ok so they are older, but at least, unlike previous regimes we don't have tied them to long, expensive contracts. I know the counter argument is one of squad turn over in the summer, but most teams at this level appear to have high churn. January will be interesting re: transfers. Mousinho -31 Henry - 28 Kelleher - 21 Ricardinho - 32 Raglan - 24 Obika - 26 Williamson - 33 Van Kessel - loan Xemi - 22 Pekalski - 26 Payne - 22 Mowatt - 22 Mehmeti - 27 Tiendalli - 31
