But not good enough for Chelsea. Abraham and Loftus-Cheek to make their debuts for England tonight.
I never thought i would see the day when a player not good enough for first team football at an English club, subsequently going out on loan, could get a game for England.
I suppose that's where we are at the moment, with foreign players in the PL.

I suspect Abraham is playing in part because Nigeria are sniffing around him to play for them instead. It's good business for England to get him into the setup and feeling the love.
Isn't Loftus-Cheek playing well for Palace? Don't recall where he went in the off-season

With 1 win and 1 draw from their first 11 games,is anyone playing well for Palace ? The only difference i have noticed in recent games,is they seem more of an attacking force since the return of Wilfred Zaha. Abraham playing for England in a friendly has no relevance,as he could still decide to play for Nigeria. Which funnily enough is exactly what Zaha did, went to play for the Ivory Coast after playing 2 friendlies for England.

Played well before he got injured. I don't doubt Abraham could still play for them, but Zaha was not given assurances he'd play for England, which is what he wanted. Abraham playing up top makes him more likely to play (even as a sub) than out wide where England have a lot of players of a similar standard.

If Harry Kane is fit then Abraham has as much chance of playing as you or me, when you look at the gap between some of our starters and the potential replacements then you realise predicting how England will do is impossible till you see who actually makes it there.

Of which Kane hasn't been in the last year. Vardy is a very good one trick pony and who else is there?

Kane hasn't been fit in the last year? He has been England's top scorer. He plays the important games, and he will be fit barring accident for the World Cup. Any centre forward going to this World Cup for England who's name is not Harry Kane is going to sit on the bench, that position is set in stone.

He's missed 16 games between this season and last season with various injuries. Did his ankle ligaments against the 'Wall in the cup game last season and was out for a few important weeks.

Just makes his goals tally even more impressive then. Not exactly injury prone though for a modern day player, plays his share and I would bet on him being there.

Here's the rub with England at the moment. There is a great opportunity for the national team based on the progression of the youth team, and one that Andreas Bierhoff acknowledges in Kicker. The fear in Germany (who, lest we forget, ripped up the manual after Euro 2000 and started investing in academies, resulting in the World Cup three years back) is that England are producing the better footballers, what with Dortmund spending millions on an English teenager. And yet, Hamburg have just successfully given a debut to Jan-Fiete Arp (remember the name) and Sancho at Dortmund. Plus RB Leipzig with their impressive youth system, whether you can stand the "product" or not. Contrast this with senior England players who don't even play for their clubs...would this happen in Germany, France or Spain? No chance. As long as this status quo remains, England will still not reach their potential.

English national team is a joke, I am desperate for a team of passionate individuals. But we just get a bunch if over paid arseholes!

All the talk of he doesn't score in August is disingenuous when he scores a lot in every other month!
