Lovely passing. Beautiful. Mindblowing. Nil points. Familiar. What, no reference to earthworms? Previous 5 games = 3 wins and 2 draws. Hardly a familiar nil points is it. Maggot

Sorry to say we never really looked liked scoring. Our clever passing plays were all too deep.

To be fair we play great attacking flowing football which is good. I would rather we showed some grit some muscle some more directness only a small minority of goals are scored from passing football each week most come form only a few passes. For me we need to be more direct or we will be a sort of arsenal team fairly attractive but a season is judged upon league position and trophies. Dont get me wrong I like the style of football but it is frustrating we take it to the extreme and seem incapable of playing direct robust football.
Note this isn't having a pop at the team and if the fans want to see this sort football and aren't concerned about the results or winning then so be it. But for me i would rather see a chrissy wilder sort of team winning 1-0. Anyway I am fully behind this team and management just would like us to harden up and play tougher more direct football at times. Just ask Crystal Palace Fans this season what they thought of De Boers attacking fluid style after Alladyces mor defensive but ultimately safer style and now Roy Hodson going the same way this season.

Let me first say that Wes has been very good lately. I do Still think we need a striker who can stick the ball in the back of the net on a more regular basis or produce something out of nothing if we are to seriously challenge at the top of this league.

We were decent 1st half and i thought we bossed it. Second half Fleetwood were the better team for me, they had a good spell of pressure before their goal, i don't think their pressure deserved a goal but yet again we failed to deal with someone on the edge of our box and somehow they have managed to score the softest of goals. Not good defending at all. Very frustrating. Neither team deserved to win that game. Should have been a point each.
I can't fault the effort and everyone on the Radio (Pep and the players that is) seem to be happy with the performance (not the result) so maybe my expectations are set a little too high.

A frustrating result but equally frustrating are those who keep off this thread while we are drawing and once losing can't wait to jump on their computer and tell the world how awful we are. I suspect that had we scored a late winner, one poster for sure would have closed his computer down and waited for the next game.
Why do we have fans who only want to jump on any negativity ?

It's really depressing how quiet these match day threads are when we are not losing. Er, not this! I'd say that this is one of the quietest matchday threads all season. Because there doesn't seem to be very much to say. For those (few) convinced that we are a shower of shit, a late away defeat to a play off contender doesn't prove all that much. And for those convinced that this is the greatest Oxford United side ever to pull on the shirt it isnt great proof of that, either. What it is, is increasing ballast to the view that we are a decent footballing League 1 side without quite having the punch, the nastiness and pace to be a top 5 team. So, like last season we will probably be one of four or five teams battling it out for the final place to be one of the four teams battling it out to go up! Problem is, being neither 'shit' not 'great ' is not very exciting. So, gradually, people are having less to say because the wild disparity in opinion is narrowing down to a broad consensus that won't be drastically budged by any single match.

You're going to have to show some evidence of that being said, charlie. Er why? Are you the Inquisition. It has rhetorical device. I have no evidence that anyone has said we area shower of shit, either. Actually, come to think of it several posters this season have said that this is the best oufc side in their lifetime. On one current thread, one poster adds the proviso: 'except maybe for the last three months of the 96 promotion season.' He seemed to have forgotten that that team went on to improve further and were 5th in the Championship come December the following season! There has been plenty of hyperbole around, and some over-blown doom as well. That's all I'm saying. Most of us now see this oufc team as an upper mid-table side that will finish somewhere between 11th and 6th.

Disappointing that...deserved a point tbh..very very windy and so we did try and keep the ball on the ground and play football. I think if Wes had scored with the very good chance he had we would have gone on and won the game The defence apart from the poor clearance which was drilled back in, was solid as a rock and do you know what Tiendali dare I say it, is a better left back than Ric ( defensively ) I couldn't drop him after that performance. Henry had another good game.. but the problem is Fleetwood are such a crap side its very difficult to play against them...if they tried to play football properly we would hammer them but they are a bunch of hoofers which in todays conditions was effective. Post more later or tomorrow if we ever get home..

I wasn't there today Jerome, and therefore hesitate on specifics of the match.
But...
Our habit of back-pedaling when being run at just outside the box is worrying and today was seemingly costly. We find it very hard to hold a slender lead or defend a clean sheet, especially late in a game. Today, Pep made some very attacking subs at 0-0 - admirable perhaps, but was it a mistake? We only had 4 shots on goal today (BBC stats) with a meager 2 on target.
Let's hope for better stuff on Friday.

Defensively, actually thought we looked really solid for roughly first 60mins, then a bit shaky after. Probably coincided with both fullbacks getting a bit tired due to lack of fitness, but must say thought Dwight looked top notch first half, especially considering he was probably thrown in deep end with Ric's injury. Wes ran his heart out and was getting understandably frustrated with lack of service, they managed to keep Payne quiet. Credit to the 600+ who made it, think that's probably furthest we'll travel this season?

We were gonna lose at some point. Not end of the bloody world. Yes frustrating but we will bounce back We'll if we were it shouldn't have been today. We should have been 2 0 up by half time. We have got to be more clinical with when we have possession around the box. Second half in bullet points, as just got back to hotel in stoke, with around 200 miles to go tomorrow: - poor defending - midfield static - why do give teams so much room, which allowed them to run at us, playing right into their game plan. - we played so deep in the second half, we got to the half way line and then went sideways and backwards. Basically the game was there for the taking in the first half. We persist with one up from, apart from the last 10 mins today. Balls were going high to Thomas, when he was competing up against 4 defenders. When will Pep realise this is a thankless task for him away from home.

Two terrible pieces of defending there. What on earth was Mousinho doing allowing the guy to get goal side to cross for the second? Eastwood beaten yet again, low down, into his right hand corner but Grant has to be closed down.

Pep went 2 up front on 82 mins and we then shipped two goals! Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Still he will learn and that is one of his strengths. Fair play for trying to grab the win - just didn't pay off today! Move on! As Chippy would say....
