hi, does anyone else struggle to use their phone (on vodafone) at the kassam? i have full 4G signal but all apps fail to connect, texts/whatsapp come through after the final whistle - but plenty of people around me seem to get half time scores fine, asked them and they are on different networks, thus none on vodfone. rather annoying

Yes, me!
What you've described is exactly what happens to me. It shows full 4G signal, but nothing will open and I can't get half time scores etc etc. Calls and texts work OK, but that's all. My phone is an iPhone 7, if that helps to narrow things down and I sit in the North Stand.
Drives me f*cking mad!

Yep I know two that struggle in the stand and get nothing, no data in the concourse despite having signal.
He seems to think that as soon at 3pm strikes, they service just stops.

Arhhh now this is a subject I do know about .
Several of us have spent many an annoying hour on the phone to vodafone with this issue. To have been given reasons ranging from , ur phone is faulty, to there being a blocking device in the stadium, to well it appears to be working ok now (a few days later) or at ur home address.
Much of it is explained in this twitter thread, including an open letter to vodafone to sort it out.
But basically the issue is the 4g mast in that area isn’t big enough to meet demand on match days, and they won’t upgrade it for 23 times of the year usage.

Ny guess is there's too many people connected to the 4G cell in your area and it's struggling to cope. Switching to 3G would change you onto a different cell which may be less congested

Yep same here.
Had enough with Vodafone to be honest. 15 years and the signal is crap at my house and the 4g doesn't work at the ground.
Like a bet so very rarely get to cash out as it will not load.
Weirdly however it will work at half time then drops seconds into the game. This I don't understand as you would think it would be busier at half time.

Scores don't change at half time and there's the added risk of dropping your handset into the urinals!!

Because I am a cheap skate I am with Tesco mobile, I get fantastic signal at the Kassam and pretty much everywhere, where as everyone I know who pays more with Vodafone gets nothing. Basically Vodafone are shite but charge mugs more for being shite because they are a big name brand, yet you will all stay with them.

Tesco Mobile uses the O2 (Telefonica) radio network. O2 shares its masts with Vodafone, but not antennae and active gizmology.
I changed from Vodafone to EE about a year ago and was astonished that EE worked continuously at half-time.

I'm with BT Mobile - who use EE's masts I believe - and find the coverage to be excellent in general. No issues at the stadium etc.

I couldn't care less about the brand but I have been with them that long that I have a sweet deal. Don't matter if it's a good deal if the phone doesn't work though! Torn between them and 3 mobile, the free use abroad is a good pull for me.

They prey/rely on clueless mugs who pay over the odds for a relatively poor service. If you google 'worst mobile provider', Vodafone come up tops in every search result. Ofcom have even fined them £5 million for being such a shite provider. Then there's all the stuff around tax avoidance/not paying their dues.

Have the same issues as Colin and am on Vodafone with an iPhone 7. I've been with Vodafone for about seven years and have found them to be the best provider in comparison to Orange, EE and Tesco.
Obviously individual experiences impact on these things.

I would leave, but they keep tempting me to stay. I get a good deal, an extra 15% off through vea. And they just upgraded my data from 3meg to 16meg free.
Working all around the county, the Kassam is the only place I don’t seem to have a signal

Same as carefreeoufc and oufcyellows, I've been with them for many years and have found them to be the provider of the best signal in 99% of cases. Unfortunately 3pm on Saturdays at the kassam stadium is the other 1%!
I'm reluctant to change just because of that though, and I'm happy enough with everything else regarding my contract. I'm actually a bit relieved that others have the same problem, as I was beginning to think Ian Mixter and his team had placed some sort of bug in my phone for their counter surveillance purposes...........

Do u know how to flick it over to 3G ? If not I’ll talk u through it. Not as quick but it’s enough to access a few apps. Get a bet on or check half time scores

As a very happy user of Vodafone in Holland ( best coverage, reasonable rates, very fast 4G and 4G+) my phone (OnePlus 3) automatically switches to Vodafone UK on arrival in Lootown and remains very fast and reliable in various locations around Oxfordshire. Except in the stadium at kick-off. Nearly every app refuses to connect and after a few tries I tend to switch my phone off.
Now if all you other Vodafone people were to do the same, then maybe I could get a decent signal during the match. Thank you.

Or by asking those around me to do their best James Alexander Gordon impressions as they stare into their screens using up all the bandwidth.

I seem to remember when there were numbers in the program which were linked to matches and a 'little man' used to hang up numbers at half-time to indicate the score across from (or was it behind?) the Popular Side.

Almost like they degrade the service at kick offs I wonder if there is some sort of video uploading service (iFollow?) which uses the Vodafone mast? That may explain the sudden drop off at kick off time as it will chew up a huge chunk of the bandwidth.
