Isn't Lunny still young enough that we would get a fee for him if he leaves once his contract expires?

The more I think about this the more ok I am with it. Lunny has been fantastic for us and a huge part of the last 3 years, but I can't see him signing a new deal, so £500K is brilliant business if you ask me.

Well Wilder can f*ck off,and let's see if Daryl Eales is an astute businessman if there is a transfer involving Lunny over the fee and whether he will offer him A new contract like he said.

Its a question of lower mid table in league 1 or play off push in the championship, with your best mates, on lots more money. Toughie. That isn't the situation though

As others have said from a business perspective Half a million pounds for a player out of contract in a year is probably pretty decent business. I would thin that DE has offered JL a new contract but it is quite likely that he hasn't signed it, with MAPP going and with teams interested in taking him to a higher league.

How can anyone conclude anything about our new signings yet? It's 17th July ffs😉 I'll tell you how, Pontiff. Henry is a proven player from a division above so it is likely (I said 'looks like') he is a decent signing. Commentary on the Hull game supported that. Kelleher - As I said, I saw him play and was impressed. Shearer is a solid old pro and has been brought in to be a benchwarmer/backup and surely he is capable of that? Raglan - I think we've all seen enough of him to form an opinion. A positive one in my case. Tiendalli - I said that nobody has any idea whether he is a good signing or not. Surely that is unarguable? Quality pedigree, but hasn't played for two years! Obika - last year he played in the same division as us (when he wasn't injured) so you can judge him on his record. 25 goals in 94 matches over three years at Swindon, before that 23 goals in 110 games. Which is 10-12 over a full 46 game season (being slightly generous). You'll notice that I didn't say any of them were crap, and I didn't say any of them are the answer to our prayers. If we signed Mahrez and Jack Midson, would you have no opinions about their relative merits?

Some of the optimism and tough talking is both laudable and amusing but, when it comes down to it, Mr Eales has not got the finance to offer the wages that will be on offer. He may not wish to see players leave but his options to prevent are limited, to say the least.

We have a player who hasn't signed a contract despite talk three month ago about a deal being lined up. He could potentially go for whatever the tribuneral set in a years time and play out his football knowing he won't be here next season. Or we get 500-800k up front for him and a sell on fee and invest the money where the new manager sees fit. Again the boot really is on the players foot here if he wants to force a move he can and having not signed a contract yet i assume it isn't an emphatic yes he want's to stay long term.

Be a shame if he goes, but players move on.
Curtis Nelson is a readymade captain to step up
The midfield vacancy gives Rothwell and others a chance to shine.

But then again he could go we get 500k Lunny sits on the ben h got most of the season and they could get relegated( the blades ) we swap places in the championship, yes it is a toughie.

I admire your crystal ball but lets look at the facts we are in league 1 they are championship also look at the wages on offer (only visible to the player) and the transfer fees (only visible to the chairman) all the rest is conjecture and guessing. If it is as clear cut as this then he will stay here. Nothing to do with our chaiman the facts will rule. I suspect the sell on will be the biggie and the fact we can negotiate the deal aside from it being set by tribuneral and he will leave Lunny will play higher league football for more money and it will turn out much like roof and COD last season. Of course we could reject the bid Lunny get the hump and play poorly or not at all this season and then what? again this is conjedcture and should be treated the same was as your alternate future in your post.

There will be no tribunal as he can walk for free next year as he will be aged 24 by then. It's interesting that Peterborough transfer list all their players who are in the final year of their contract if they don't want to sign a new one, seems to make perfect sense to me.

The only down side will be what the sell on clause is. Roofes it seems was a pre agreed fee, it would have been the same if we sold him for £2m or £10m. If there is something similar on lunny then we might not be seeing very much of it at all. Even if it's 20% that's a big chunk of 500k gone

Personally I'd be very pleased that we were signing a consummate model professional who had proven himself at the highest level possible time after time, and would be the rock around whom we would build our promotion winning team. And Riyad Mahrez had a certain level of promise too.

We may had to have paid some compensation, but if he wasn't under contract then surely they can't have a sell on clause.

Let's face facts. We don't have the financial clout to withstand offers for players. If our good players get an offer of higher income and a higher profile from going elsewhere, then that's that. ?? The club has to accept an offer. It is not just down to the player.

I know Man Utd and Everton did that for lego and rothwell I can't remember lunny. But it is possible a future fee was agreed as compo rather than an upfront payment

If it's true, then the club are in a difficult position.
If I were the club, with a player who has not signed a new contract, then I'd be cashing in. If the player wants a new deal, on improved terms, then I wouldn't sell him until that's been concluded. If he won't sign and who knows what's going on negotiation wise, as it's none of our business, then sell the boy.
He's been a wonderful, loyal and honest servant to our club. I would love him to stay.
However, I would have every faith that the Recruitment Dept would have someone already lined up. I suspect this scenario has been expected for some time.
As for wages, my perception is we must be sat on a war-chest - after all, plenty of bodies have left the building, so I can't wait to see what we've got lined up. Onwards and upwards.

If he's going to go punt him to other teams and let him go for the same amount Wilder is willing to pay.... as someone else has already said for someone who had the best team in league 2 the other year he sure seems eager to take our players instead of his ex teams
