I like this 5 game blocks malarky as it stops you getting too down after a bad result, even if we only draw the next two games that's still 8 points from the first block, bang on target and much better than last season. I'd happily take draws against Shrewsbury or MK Dons I think we will beat Shrewsbury. Yes they have won 3 out of 3 but they aren't that good still. We will be the first real test for them. The 3 Shrewsbury beat are in the bottom 4 So we should beat them

But already out of one trophy. I know the bigger picture is a good run in the league this year but cup games do contribute to form as well. It's played four, won two, lost two really. No it isn't. We are looking specifically at the league which is the priority. Whichever way you look at it we have 9 points from 3 games. We do?

Are you sure you're looking at the right thing?

I'd happily take draws against Shrewsbury or MK DonsI wouldn't. We need to be looking to build a decent home record this season. So I reckon Pep will be targeting a win against Shrewsbury. Ok well IF we beat Shrewsbury then I'd definitely take a draw away at MK Dons!

First block finished and we have hit the required 8 points with a side that is still a work in progress.
Also clear progression from last season.

The next block of 5 is one of the easiest on paper.
I would be disappointed if we don't get 9 points from it....

What's everyone's predictions for this block then? I'll go for...
Gillingham (H) 3 points Bradford (H) 1 point Blackpool (A) loss (weird feeling) Walsall (H) 3 points Bury (A) 1 point Points out of 15 = 8
Think we are still getting used to the new faces and still think it's gonna be a little while before we have a proper settled side. Of course I hope I'm wrong and we go on a mad run and hit 5 wins. Ya never know.

I agree and reckon it'll be another 8 point haul. We started bad last year with a more settled group(I know we had injuries) so this year is really encouraging, and there's been injuries for the current group as well. I'm very optimistic, I think this squad is better than last season's.

Going for 9 points out of this block. Two defeats against Bradford and Bury with two wins against Blackpool and Walsall.

We need a minimum of 9 points per block to get second place, so on that basis I'm hoping for the following, to bring us back on target But I have a feeling we may get a reality check and lose to Bradford or Blackpool, but that would drop it to 10 points Gillingham (H) 3 points Bradford (H) 1 point Blackpool (A) 1 points Walsall (H) 3 points Bury (A) 3 point Points out of 15 = 11

I also think 11 and no reason to be scared of Bradford either, yes they are good but so are we and we're playing well.

After 7 games last season we had 10 points, won 3, drew 1, lost 3, scored 8 conceded 8. Compare that to this season we have won 3, drawn 3, lost 1, scored 12, conceded 5 so progress is definitely being made. This is certainly a better start than any rational fan could of expected.

Win the next 2 in this block and we are up on last year in the first 2 blocks

Win at home and draw away which should be achievable and we will both be up on last year and on a nice average of 8 points per block, right where we want to be

So a poor block but same points as last season at this stage! I think we can get 9 points from the next block which would help improve the mood a little.

I can see us getting 5 points from the next 3. 2 draws against Rovers and Charlton then beat Rotherham.

Looked like one of our hardest blocks and we start with 3 wins... get in there! Making up for last block big time

All we need is one more win this block and we can completely forget the 3 losses, beat charlton or rotherham and we will start to look like a real force to be reckoned with!

Has anyone ever looked at doing say a 5 game moving average? Iām wondering if that would be a useful indicator of how our most recent games have gone as the season progresses.

Please do it for us because I for one do not know what you mean. Educate us please. So something along these lines. Orange line is average points per game, including all games up to the latest. So overall progress towards the (roughly) 80 points to get to the playoffs (1.74 points per game). Blue line is average points over the last 5 games only. So "recent form", maybe? Might be completely useless, but we all like a stat, right? Attachments:

So an 11 point block, bloody marvellous effort that and we are right on track. Could of been better yes but after the last block who would of imagined we would go 5 unbeaten winning 3 of those.

This is where the guide at the top of this thread becomes really useful. After 15 games we're 4 points better off than at the same stage last season. This means that very loosely, in theory, if we match last season's tally throughout the remaining blocks then we would be on course to get in the playoffs.
Obviously there are many variables, it's not black and white etc etc, but it's a very basic way of being able to get a reasonable idea of how things are going. Last season we missed out on sixth by 4 points and at present we have made those points up inside the first three blocks. Just got to hope that we continue to improve and keep up some level of consistency. If the team continues to grow and gel further, and if we can keep the injuries to a relative minimum while getting a couple of players back fit between now and January, then who knows.
7 points needed from the next block to stay on course versus last season. Some tricky away trips to Fleetwood and Southend as well as Blackburn at home, while Northampton always raise their game against us and Plymouth are scrapping and picking up a couple of results in the process. Get those 7 points in the bag and we will have done pretty well. Manage to top that and we will have done superbly.

Well 20 games gone and we're 1 point ahead of last season! Given all the turmoil I don't think that's too bad.
