So those that were there on the day - did they genuinely run onto/dance on our pitch because we got relegated rather than them getting promoted? And if so, how do you know?
Not playing devil's advocate, just genuinely curious as it was before my time.

Just looked it up. Quite a few years before I moved to Oxford so missed that one. To clarify, it wasn't so much the fact that losing to them relegated us from the football league. It was the utterly classless way they celebrated our demise as much, if not more, than the promotion they clinched that day. That's the brief version. There's lots more detail on previous threads on this forum. By the way, pillock, are you still enjoying the ride with the mighty yellows? Did you manage to get to the Skip last Sunday?

Saturday April 29th is their final home game (hopefully ever in the football league).
Oxford United are not playing on that Saturday.
Anyone going?

I will wait till nearer the time but if they are doomed to non-league then f`eckin right!
I can remember a bit of a party at Brisbane Road when we went up so don`t really begrudge them their moment at Grenoble Road..... however seeing their demise would certainly create some equilibrium in the universe.

Not playing devil's advocate, just genuinely curious as it was before my time. Started as a celebration then turned into a mocking of our relegation. It was a bad time at the club and the start of a even darker era. You remember in life when you get kicked when you're down.

Wow! I would urge everyone to read that piece. OK, the writer - Tom Davies - confirms he is vice-chair of LOFT (Leyton Orient's Fans' Trust) but what a horrible position their owner has put them in. He's seeking a buyer to take on the club and £10 million of debt. Meanwhile, the team is full of inexperienced players and he is refusing to spend any more money. They look doomed. For a moment I actually felt sorry for their fans - can you imagine if this were us? - until I remembered 6th May 2006.

Football is a game based on loyalty and respect. I don't resent them running on the pitch the day they got promoted but the lack of respect from their fans when taking the p*ss in front of the Oxford Mail is something that crossed the line. I was in Frankie and Bennies after the game and they were mocking us in there too before they got kicked out as staff soon realised their restaurant was at risk of having Orient fans thrown about in there.
Their fans deserve to go down to non league and I for one hope they suffer down their as well.
Just like when Rovers fans were mocking us over the Taylor saga, karma can be a bitch.

The captain is a disgrace to the game. Hopefully they can ply their trade in the National if they are accepted

Erm, wouldn't doing the same thing back to them mean lowering ourselves and becoming devoid of class? Can understand that some might have a smile if they go down but the majority of their fans don't deserve to experience any of that nonsense - particularly given how terrible their owner is.

4-1 down now. Hope their stay in the Conference is a long one. I hope it's short and they go down to Conference South, with a fixture against Oxford City when we're not playing. 6 points from safety after tonight's quite surprising results.

Yes. Looking forward to dancing on their pitch and watching them suffer, when they go down. I might even take a banner with me saying "Best wishes from Oxford United"

A little fly past with a banner trailing Eric's message would get decent coverage! I'd chip in!

Uh, one of them Gordon MaQueen postcards with a fat ugly old bitch staring at a cesspool with the caption "Enjoy your dip!" Sometimes your comments are just too Daedalean. That's bleeding timely given that a fly past (I'm not talking saddletramp bringing work home from Sverdlovsk-19 )** is being discussed. Perhaps we could get in touch with these chaps? On the larger matter, unfortunately I'm Icarean. Nobody, not even me, survives in the end. ** Hilarious as this would be it's a touch incorrect: Sverdlovsk-19 was only involved in Anthrax production (to our knowledge) and saddletramp probably never worked there (same). The fly past reference would be more appropriate to Section-731, Pingfan, led by one Gen'l Ishii, which did use flies as plague carriers in Manchuria. In keeping with the tone of this thread, it is cheering to recall that many of it's leaders (the rank & file, trampers old lad, were left to fend for themselves with the police - only obeying order being no excuse) were protected from prosecution by the US and went on to become highly valued members of the post-war industrial world.

Even if they some how survive this, do they face a points deduction anyway of some sort ?

Post by ZeroTheHero on Mar 1, 2017 10:51:34 GMT
Not if they just pay what's owing. Various other clubs (eg Southend) seem to collect this sort of order quite regularly without batting an eyelid.
The question is more whether their owner is prepared to pay it. You would think so because if the club is wound up then his asset is worth nothing, but who knows?!

Shame, would have been terrible if they got relegated and started next season with a points deduction Seems £4m is the going rate for a decent sized l2 club. Doesn't make de purchase price look quite so bad now

think its about time the FL started adding a points deduction of 3 points for every winding up action, especially those issued by HMRC... remember they are effectively cheating by not paying their dues. Southend have been "using them" since at least 2009.
