THE ONE OF OUR OWN CAMPAIGN – helping youngsters in care
OxVox is partnering with the Oxford United Community Trust to fund over 1000 match day tickets for Oxfordshire children living in care.
There are currently over 600 children in Oxfordshire who are looked after by the county council, with countless more made vulnerable by family upheaval or neglect. One of the things that the fantastic carers working with those young people do is, occasionally, bring them to watch Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium.
As members of the Oxford United family we can all imagine what this means to these young people and their carers. The Yellows are at the heart of the community, and the stadium is a place where all walks of life come together with a common purpose, accepting and celebrating one another as they shout and cheer for their team in a safe environment. As well as respite from the pressures they face, match days offer an opportunity for young people to build relationships with their carers as well as their peers, and broaden their social horizons.
As one carer puts it, “the match day is a place where children can think about their lives and have ambition that things can be better for them and that people care about them and their lives. The Oxford United family provides that and more.”
OxVox are aiming to raise £6,220 by 31 July to secure 50 places for children and their carers on match days. This will enable 40 young people and 10 carers to be at every home game. We have the ability, together, to help these children and young people and to invite them into our family. Should we be lucky and the campaign goes well, then we will re-appraise the target.
We think Oxfordshire knows very well, how vulnerable our young children can be. We would like to make a difference and invite these children into our OUFC family.
Please help by donating to OxVox’s campaign.
Just visit the One of our own where you can learn more and make an online donation.

It's great that OUFC related fundraising is now for community causes as good as this, long gone are the 12th man days of trying to scrape enough money together for Wilder to bring Onome Sodje in for a month.

Luddite posting: looks like you have to log in with Facebook, a thing I will not do. So if there's another way (I won't use Paypal either btw) I can donate please point me at it. I am amenable to credit card payments, bank transfer or handing over wedge.
Sorry to be a pain.

Seriously though, I've asked the question on your behalf.

If you send a cheque to OxVox, made out to OxVox, with a brief note explaining what it's for, that is probably the easiest way to do it. We'll do the rest. If it was during the season, I would take care of it for you. You are a member, and do have the address don't you?
On a separate note I see mine host at the Bird is introducing a new menu, now that he has discovered provenance as a concept. Such delicacies as Garsington Old Spot, Farmoor Reservoir crayfish, Abingdon Angus Beef, and the famous Osney Island samphire will be on the menu next season!

I can do that. Thanks for the reply.
Competition for the Chalgrove Brook crayfish, eh? I trust the Britwell Salami will become a favourite, and I shall have a word with our laird, Tinybob, for some Stadhampton Meadow larks - he and lady TB love them, evidently.
[edit] Was reply to CB, but thanks foley, I will try again later.

Our fans once again, show how remarkable they are. £1265 raised in just over 24 hours. We will all make a difference to young children who are in the 'care system' for whatever reason they find themselves there, we can provide some of them with hope and aspiration again because that's what football can do. Some don't have families, they can be part of our family.
UPDATE: Watch this space, we have had some unbelievable news to come in the coming days that should help build the fund.

We have to thaank the 122 people who have so far kindly donated to the initiative. Current total stands at £4092 online, plus the £425 from the successful bid for Roofe's signed away shirt and at least a further £410 from the current bidding on Roofe's home shirt. Therefore, a sum of £4927. We remain £1300 short of our target that will allow the Trust to purchase 50 season tickets, of which will go to Children in Care or on the edge of the Oxfordshire Care system. Can we make a plea and see if anyone could help? Maybe a business or alike who may like to donate to the initiative and charity? www.oxvox.org.uk/oneofourown/www.justgiving.com/fundraising/OxVox-OneOfOurOwn

Is there a way to donate for us old uns who haven't a clue about new technology? Will there be a bucket we can just bung our cash in ? Hi Whatever, we can sure try to find a way to enable you to contribute. If you'd like to do a cheque payment if you can't do the Paypal option on the OxVox page then let me know and I'll send you our details to post the cheque too. We won't be rattling buckets for this one due to lack of games and we need to aim to hit the target before the season starts to be able to sort the tickets out and buy them. At present, no tickets have been bought until we hit £6220. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/OxVox-OneOfOurOwnThis website enables card payment if you're not Paypal savvy so try that as opposed to sending a cheque.
