For the first time I think Tuesday is a must win game, because i think we will do well to get 5 points from the other 3 games.

Actually while I am in a foul mood, let's add PRB's stupid pre-match cheerleading to the list of things I hated about today. We aren't a school choir and we don't bleeding well need to be told what to do by you, mate. Well done to everyone for refusing to join in with the orchestrated left side/right side malarkey. I hope he got the message. If they want to encourage some singing before the start of the match - how about turning the piped music off a bit bloody earlier.

Well that was disappointing our defending for all 3 goals was just schoolboy stuff I think somehow we need to get Wright back in the side but without replacing dunks(who again was excellent) and Mullins just think jake will bring some calmness to the defence. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I think bringing Lundstram back in was a mistake he looked off the pace and rusty and we kind of missed ruffles battling qualities in the middle of the park. Without a doubt we missed macca. So today was our day where we all sit here a panic over our position I'm sure come Tuesday evening it will be the turn of rovers or Stanley fans to be worried. it's never easy supporting oufc they always put us through the mixer but now is not the time to stop believing we have got to stick together and push us over that line.

But his presence could be a major help

Somebody said it today and it struck a chord, "that was not a team performance today". The lack of any width was appalling. The number of poor passes, hopeful kicks forward and defensive lapses were just totally out of sync for a team in second place and auto promotion spot.
Yes, the ref was crap, they all are in this division but, we were the architects of our own downfall.
It is increasingly clear that this squad is too small and too inexperienced. Missing Macca and Callum today was just too much to cover. That is a worry, a big worry. Their absence made Roofe look ineffectual and left the backs exposed. Lundstram was off his game, Maguire seemed to be obsessed with turning around to go nowhere and the lack of any communication between Buchel and his backs is just unacceptable.

Dunks out Wright in for me. Wright will lead Evans and Mulls will lead Kenny and they're both good enough to concentrate on that and not have to worry about each other.

Wright lacks pace though but against a poor Newport side that might be a gamble worth taking. I would bring Ruffels back in as Newport's beach of a pitch won't suit Lunny and hopefully Macca will be back along with CoD.

Don't be stupid whingit - Dunks must be retained. We lost today in the middle where Lundstram was dreadful, Sercs close behind & Kemar - well Roofey wherever you end up playing next year you must remember this is a team game. If there is a Sky Award tomorrow night for the most selfish player you will win it!

With Evans and Kenny at full back and a jittery goalkeeper, Wright needs to play with Mullins. He's got experience and know how and Chey is still raw and learning. Mullins is holding the entire back five together on his own and that can't carry on. He's the captain, a leader and has experience of getting over the line in big games. I really hope he comes back in. If he does I think it will settle the whole side down for the last few games.

Would be so harsh to drop Dunkley plus he is a goal threat from set pieces, especially if Maguire is taking them. We seemed on our heels from the off today, I know we scored early but Luton were in control from then really. Even if we hadn't have that mad 3 minutes before HT I still think they would've scored and maybe even won as we were that bad today.
Win Tuesday and today is forgotten, the chasing pack all have "tricky" games in midweek so the gap could well be back to 4 points with 9 to play for. Trying to stay positive, COYY!

Just home. Very disappointing and definitely not good for our blood pressure! I am always keen to support every Oxford player but felt Waring was very poor today. He lacks mobility, pace and today his first touch was poor, many promising attacks breaking down on him , and crucially the 2 on 1 with Roofe was messed up by a heavy pass by Waring. Roberts did more in 15 mins. The full backs are being targetted and whilst Kenny defends soundly, Evans struggles on that aspect of the game. Skarz is badly missed. Lunny did struggle today but that can happen after a fortnight out. Hylts was again superb but Roofe over embelliished. I actually thought Maguire was decent. I strongly feel that at such a crucial stage it is scandalous that our best defender and leader is sidelined. Appreciate Dunks gives us a crucial aerial presence so as MA will not tinker with a back 3 now, I would play Jake at left back. Kenny gets help from Macca ( when he is in) but Evans gets less help as Maguire, Callum or Roofe are less natural tacklers and track back less diligently. Really hope at least one of the ill lads are back for next games. We missed Callum's pace today. Playing on a bog will not be easy but hopefully a solid win and then 3 more Aturday. I reckon that will mean needing 1 more pt from last 2. Stress, what stress?

Had Buchel not made that mistake we go in at half time in front having never been tested, we would have won the game. I get that you probably don't like slocombe but to try and direct the blame for the defeat anywhere but to Buchel is crazy. Could whoever passed it back to him have put it in the stand? Maybe! Could Buchel have done this first time? 100% yes. Could his first touch have been better? 100% yes. its the second mistake in 2 weeks from him that has cost us a goal, neither were "unlucky", they were both errors that had you seen happen on a Sunday morning you'd be assuming he was filling as the normal keeper was away that week. He got lucky last week that the second half performance was so strong that the mistake didn't matter, but today that was awful and cost us the game. Whether we could have defended better for the other goals is irrelevant as these wouldn't have happened without the first goal being conceded. Don't get me wrong, I want him to do well, really I do but that today was one of the worst things I've seen live from a goalkeeper and I include any games I've played in too....and I've played with some terrible keepers. I played Sunday league with a goalie like that, it makes the whole defence jittery. I do wonder if our sloppy defending is caused by our poor goalkeepers inspiring no confidence from those in front of them. In a bad position now of having two not very good goalkeepers who are unlikely to play next season but we need 4 good performances from them, just need to hope that they can produce. Judging by today, there is every possibility that it could be 7 performances!

It's width.
With Cod and Mac out, we were always going to struggle. We are desperate for width and pace and certainly the former gives us both.
In that regard our embarrassing home form is not a mystery. We are rather easy to stop. It is just an almighty blessing that when teams play us at home the onus is one them to come at us, play their game and look to dominate. It plays into our hands.
When teams have not done that at their place, we've struggled. Think York, Pools, Daggers, Wycombe. They all sat in and frustrated us.
When teams come to the Kassam they look to get a foothold in the game and frustrate. Disparagingly and arrogantly this has been called anti-football by some on here. It's not. it's football. There is nothing negative or against the spirit of the game by trying to nullify your opponent.
Instead it is the job of the management to sit down and think 'right, we know exactly how this lot are going to play...just like the last lot stopped us...and the last lot before that...and the last lot before that...and the last lot before that...what are we going to do about it?'
So why, why, why, why are we at the death of the season with not even a hint of map and his brains trust solving this 'conundrum'?
Pray to the Almighty that Newport have a go on Tuesday (they probably will). Carlisle definitely will. But as I said some weeks ago (and got abused for it), we're going to need something on the last day.
Pompey v Oxford play-off final anyone?

Seen the goals, at the time I thought Kenny could shoulder some of the blame for the first goal but no it is 100% Buchel's error. His first touch isn't that bad even but he just has to boot it away first time, terrible!

Just had a look at the final placing a for auto's since we have been back in the League the least mount of points have been 78 for third and the highest has been 84 so possibly 82 could just do it, But it will be tight

When the people at the match said Buchel made a howler and started having a go at him I thought to myself 'come on guys, give him a break' thinking it was a debatable mistake like the one at Crawley. Having seen the goal now, that is without a doubt the worst piece of goalkeeping i've ever seen at any level above kid's/teenager's football. I stuck up for Buchel this season and wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt but Jesus Christ that mistake alone could not only cost us promotion, but it should cost the lad his place at Oxford United. I don't think you can forgive that sort of incompetence.

However, the first touch was appalling, the slip was probably a result of him sh*tting himself because of that terrible touch, then he decided to follow the ball which had already got too far away from him instead of moving back to the goal where he belonged. He was being covered at that point. It may have been a mistake, and he didn't mean it, but any competent goalie would have had more than one chance to rectifythe problem.

I don't think you can forgive that sort of incompetence. Hyperbole alert. See my above post for thoughts about what exactly he did wrong. Is it hyperbole to suggest he should lose his spot at the club because of the mistake? He has made a catalogue of errors this season and never looked confident. Most of theses were inexperience problems, and forgiveable. Could it cost us promotion? Yes absolutely, we wouldn't have conceded the two first half goals if he hadn't done what he did. We may not have won the match but we would have had a great start to the second half at 1-0 and who knows, maybe the three points today will be the difference at the end of the season. It isn't unthinkable that we will miss autos by 1/2 points. Again, not sure that my post crosses the line of anger into the realm of hyperbole. Wouldn't want Buchel playing first choice keeper next season no matter what league.
