One of the discussion points at the recent OxVox meeting with the clubs commercial team concerned the music played before kick off and various members had put forward suggestions as to how it could be improved.
Over the years there have been numerous threads/posts on this subject, but it was felt at the meeting that the best course of action was for OxVox or the Yellow Army to co-ordinate fans views and come up with a plan!
The club have offered a nominated group of fans the opportunity to come into the stadium and actually play various tracks over the PA system so that people could get a feel for how they would sound on match day. We thought this was a great idea!
So, everyone, we need a few volunteers (Barts has already put his name forward!) to get together with a couple of our committee members and co-ordinate fans thoughts/suggestions on the very best tracks to really build up the pre-match atmosphere! Maybe some of the players could get involved too?
Please pop your name on this thread and/or message me directly if you're interested in getting involved and we'll get cracking!
Cheers!
Jem

Just a thought but could the song we play when we come out (obviously perkeke) also be played at the end of games when we've won?

What is this perkele that Ricky talks about?
How about When You're Smiling? That is a great sing along anthem, we never used to need it played on the PA system at the Manor, but maybe it could be just the thing to resurrect the it?
Failing that how about a bit of Teddy Pendergrast or Wilłiam DeVaughan?!?!?!

I think it's an awkward one as everyone has pretty individual tastes, but if I'm free on the day I certainly be happy to come up and see how sclub7's back catalog blaring out around an empty stadium sounds I think sorting the song we come out to is the important one, then maybe mixing up the playlist.

My personal thoughts are that the music that builds up to kick off is a different thing to a genuine club song that gets sung in pubs as well as on the terraces.
'When your smiling' which actually was our song back in the day and something like 'Sweet Caroline' work as anthems, whereas a build up of appropriate Rock type tracks would be ideal to build atmosphere!
Mixing and matching before the game, at half time and at the end could work really well!
Just my view!

Agree with that. The song we come out to doesn't have to be the anthem either, perkele is prefect to run out to, but a bit limited as an anthem. For that you can't beat reach for the stars (obviously)

I never knew who sung that, although I have heard it. Not a bad shout actually, they remind me a bit of Sham 69 and I quite like the rebellious overtones to it. PS: recognised myself in the clips of fans at Swindon PPS: which two?!?!? ;-)

The challenge is how to turn the x hundredth discussion on this into a reality where we start singing that everywhere. As I've said elsewhere it almost needs to be on loop in the quad, played over snd over at every pub we frequent, and put on lots of official club video footage to really land. But who will make that happen Eric?

Bit of an unpopular opinion from an unknown boarder here, but it seems in my eyes that this 'Perkele' thing shouldn't get out of hand. If it is the club song, great for those who like it, but not everyone is crazy about it. In my eyes it is a relatively unknown song which is sung poorly by the band and sounds poor coming through the Kassam speakers. It also seems to be the wrong genre for a football match, and gives the place the feel of a stuffy old pub full of old skinheads. So although I don't object to it being played if people want it, let's not play it at every kick off, whistle blow and throw in next season.

The only thing that worries me, with both when your smiling and yellow submarine, is according to older fans they were massive fans favourites on the terraces. Yet the died a death, fans stopped singing them for a reason! If they were such a fans favourite they would still be going strong now ? No? We're under a new era at the club, a positive push to get us back where we belong let's get a anthem that matches that and is lovely a modern

We have history and tradition, we should embrace that, whilst still moving forwards. It is a unique song, only sung by us in the past and by Leicester since. You can have one of your modern songs, but many of us want something that is a reminder of our great past. We can do both, you know. The reason it died out is probably related to the move to the kassam stadium and a change to the demographic among our fan base. It doesn't make it a bad song.

Really I stood in the London rd most of the 90S and never heard it. Not saying we can't do it or that it's not a good song just that it drifted out of favour amongst fans so was it really that popular? Plus it not unique As you say Leicester youtu.be/5C9g4bZws-cAnd villa youtu.be/D25v6tWaZD0If you want the history and uniqueness then yellow submarine.

Haha, I wouldn't oppose it , I think you will find androidyellow is more of a champion of that particular song. It does have more of a bounce to it like other songs that work well like, just can't get enough and twist and shout

I'm talking 1970s and 1980s. The two clips you show are modern day and the Leicester one is pathetic whereas the Villa one shows a little glimpse of the potential it could have in the right hands. Trust me, if it took off it would be fantastic.

When the world, leaves you feeling blue You can count on me, I will be there for you When it seems, all your hopes and dreams Are a million miles away, I will re-assure you We've got to all stick together Good friends, there for each other Never ever forget that I've got you and you've got me, so Reach for the stars Climb every mountain higher Reach for the stars Follow your hearts desire Reach for the stars And when that rainbow's shining over you That's when your dreams will all come true

The other thing is you would have to teach it to a generation or 2 most of you guys that it was an anthem for are now far from their best singing days and in the ssu (with me). I'm not sure the ultras and tbfuth. Will have it in their most listened to list on their iPods
