Our game on Saturday is massive. There is no doubt that we need to beat Mansfield, and get all 3 points. It's been a tough, challenging time for us all, but given our position, we need to stand together to support the team. We need everyone to come to the game on Saturday, and roar the team on during this vital game for Oxford United Football Club. A fellow supporter sent me this message today after seeing the poster for the game - " I like it, makes me wanna go, in fact I may do so. After Saturday's result I've had a horrible scared sick feeling in my stomach that we are in big trouble, was thinking that I'm helpless then it dawned on me, I could go and support them, get behind them and hope that my little contribution might make a small difference." It's easy and understandable to be frustrated, we all share that right now. But together, we can help Oxford United at this difficult time. No one wants a repeat of 2006, and we all love the Mighty Yellows! What makes this club so great, is the passion of our fans. We go through a lot, but step up when it matters. Saturday matters, and the team needs us! Today has seen a campaign by fellow United fans to help get more people to the game on Saturday, and to give the team noisy support. You can play your part and keep the momentum going, by tweeting about Saturday, or putting it on Facebook. It all helps. When the team's come out, let's greet them with a wall of colour and noise!! We are Oxford UNITED!! COME ON YOU YELLOWS!!

well said John. 100% agree with that.
terribly important as well (heaven forbid) that if we concede a goal we don't get on the players backs.
burn effigies of MAP after the game if you must but for the 90 minutes we need encouragement all the way
COME ON OXFORD!!!

Already mentioned in another thread I spoke with the author of the posts in other threads, and we felt it was important to get its own thread, as the game is of such importance.

That is a club generated poster and credit to them. It just so helps that the fans are pushing this and supporting the club. The posters are already on the Changing Room Doors, the Managers Office and the Chairman's office.
I hope everyone can encourage friends and family's and people who haven't been up much, for one game, to come out and support the lads to 3 points.

The club have produced the poster, but they asked some supporters for their input and feedback before they came up with the final design. Credit to the club for not only a great poster, but for asking fans before they went ahead.
2 days until our biggest game of the season. We need everyone there on Saturday!

A great idea, however we always struggle with these "BIG GAME" days.
Hope i am proved wrong.

Great to see the Club reaching out to their fans! Well done to all involved, the poster looks great - the graphics on the logo are very impressive!
Good luck, wish I could join you all but I'm sitting here on the other side of the world.

A great idea, however we always struggle with these "BIG GAME" days. Hope i am proved wrong. Fans trying to get behind the team for important games is not the reason we don't win. We are in this position for a reason, but if we stand together and have a seige mentality from now until the end of the season, we will get out of trouble. The battle starts Saturday, and I hope as many fans come to support the team as possible.

I'm not sure that a siege mentality is the best position to adopt - not according to most dictionary definitions, anyway (e.g. "a state of mind in which a person believes that he or she is being constantly oppressed or attacked"). Strikes me as being rather negative!
Also, I must admit that I'd never previously heard of Richard M DeVos.
Surely whoever is responsible for the poster could have come up with an appropriate quote from someone rather better known - Churchill, for example.

A looser definition is to be aware of danger, to be aware of a constant threat - either real or imaginary. This feeling can be invoked to engender the good old "all in it together" spirit; clear thinking, cohecohesive thought and effort and (gulp) a preparedness for the worst.....

It's not about who wrote the quote, it's the words that are of relevance to us. I think the quote is appropriate considering the battle we face on Saturday, and in the coming weeks. Surely you can see this isn't trying to be negative at all? It's a difficult time for the football club, and we are in trouble. As fans, we are doing our best to rally round to help support the team in our biggest game of the season.

Really looking forward to doing the Walk with the fans, charity workers and women's team, having a few beers and really getting behind the team. Have to say, reading the Oxford Mail today I am impressed with Michael Appleton's words. He is an undivisive figure (unlike his Yorkshire predecessor) and without sounding panicky he does finally seem to have grasped that we are in some danger. As he says in the OM, football is all about opinions. Some of us might have differed from some of his theories, and might differ from parts of the transfer policy... but come 3 pm tomorrow that is all irrelevant. It is his job to select and motivate the right team. And our job to support that team. As another poster says, this is especially relevant if the game doesn't initially go our way. The temptation for some will be to react negatively. Just imagine the boost that would give Mansfield. We need to add every extra half percentage point that we can to the likelihood of us getting 3 points. COYY!

Yep. This is not about what we, individually, think of Mr Appleton or how concerned we are about relegation, or loanees or any of our other aggravations. Saturday is about getting behind OUFC for 90 minutes. (It's also about every member of the team giving 100% for the cause ) COYY

Replenish the depleted fluids with beer. Raise some money for two brilliant causes, then.... Support the team for 90+ minutes, scream, shout, encourage, and 3 points. COYY

A few, ahem, drinks. And then a 3-0 win. Come to think of it, the last time we did the Big Walk we won 3-0. Who's up for doing it every home game?!

Thanks to everyone who took part in the walk, or sponsored someone, or put some money in the buckets on Saturday. For those of you who did none of the above there's still time to make a difference to two very good causes. CLICK HERE TO DONATELet's show how generous we are as Oxford United fans.

Eaststandboy, as pleasant as it is to have this reminder of how we, the fans, were keen to "burn effigies of MAP after the game", and of what can come from sticking with a manager through the hard times to then reap the rewards the following season...does this post still need to be pinned? (Not wanting to tell you how to do your job or anything )
