Now if people think a banner of Churchill would upset the PC brigade, what would that do ? We love reopening old wounds on this forum! No idea who the "PC Brigade" are, but my objection to Churchill was that because someone was born in Oxfordshire doesn't make them a suitable figurehead for Oxford United Football Club. If you could ask Winnie what he thought of the idea, I'm sure he'd say, in his usual charming, folksy way, that he couldn't give a toss about the game or the club. Churchill wasn't very PC himself, after all.
I care less about Churchill than the fact that he has an iconic face that would look cool in the bowler hat burning a little Robin alive with his cigar.
I'm seeking counselling.

Storm Troopers were clones earlier on, so obviously that's genetic engineering and we cannot have that lest anyone gets offended.

I don't think it's up to you to decide on the clones behalf what is or isn't offensive. Let them speak up! (unless of course you are a clone. In which case I apologise and would like to ask you to have a go at replicating Kemar Roofe a couple of times)

I'm not a clone, but I'm concerned that use of clones will affect the rights of non-clones to be on a banner...

They killed innocent ewoks. They brought blasters to a fight against rocks and sticks. Uncool, like pulling a knife in a fist fight.

Can we not have Conchita Wurst? He is a winner. Did well in Europe. Sports a nice beard.
A rousing chorus of 'Rise Like a Phoenix' before the players run out...
Quite appropriate really.

Despite some demented rubbish from some.
I still say a Churchill banner with Winnie giving the V for victory finger and wearing a U's scarf would be fantastic!

Can't believe Richard the Lionheart isn't being mentioned more. He'd look great on a flag

Can't believe Richard the Lionheart isn't being mentioned more. He'd look great on a flag Ah, but did he happen to live in a big house in Oxfordshire, thereby qualifying as an OUFC fan?

How about Charles I who (rightly) made Oxford the capital of England for a short time? Its a little known fact that, had Hitler won, then Oxford would have been capital again hence it wasn`t bombed.

Churchill would be a cliché.
Loads of Oxford educated people to choose from.
Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck - The King of Bhutan
Abdullah II of Jordan
Sultan Ahmad Shah of Malaysia
but I would plump for Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar.

They all sound foreign. True enough. I trust we can exclude these guys as well then: David Langan, Ray Houghton, John Aldridge, Dean Saunders, Jeremy Charles... Welsh & ROI internationals - never mind Oxfordians. I think the banner is pretty much Kevin Brock & Joey Beauchamp or bust.

I know, let's have a banner with Hitler on!.... Never of heard of this Hitler fella so googled him and he looks a bit like Charlie Chaplin so that might confuse people so best not to use him. Australian former soap star/failed pop singer Jason Donovan lives in the county somewhere, least a few people will have heard of him rather than this nonentity Adolf Hitler. Or former Top Gear presenter Chris Goffey?

Well I spend Euro's these days.
But a plastic £5 note with Winston Churchill on seems ideally representative of where the UK seems to be headed.
Although perhaps a series of postage stamps featuring Tony Blair with Fallujah in the background, Margaret Thatcher with Ronald Reagan, Iain Duncan Smith pushing a wheelchair over a cliff and maybe Gordon Brown fellating some good folks from the City of London.
To be followed by a special future limited edition of Boris Johnson handing the Union Jack over to the IMF and a cheering crowd of multinational executives.
