www.yellowarmy.co.uk/the-yellow-army-limbers-up-for-the-big-walk-2The Yellow Army has launched its next ‘Big Walk’ and is appealing for fans to take part for two special causes. Proceeds from the ‘Big Walk 2′ will be split between the Oxford United Youth and Community Sports Trust and Oxford Domestic Abuse Services. The eagerly awaited walk will consist of four different routes all taking place simultaneously on Saturday February 21st and ending at the stadium ahead of the home game against Mansfield Town. Yellow Army walkers will set off from Woodstock, Cholsey, Eynsham and Thame. Each walk is around 12 miles and more details on timings will follow. Last year United Milk Cup winners Les Phillips and Alan Judge joined the successful Yellow Army Big Walk which raised thousands of pounds which was split 50/50 between the Oxford United Youth and Community Trust and local hospice Helen and Douglas House. Please email yellowarmybigwalk2@gmail.com to register your interest in taking part in this wonderful community event. Oxford Domestic Abuse Services is a charity which helps women and children who have been affected by domestic and sexual violence.

Bump
There's plenty of people on this forum who like to talk the talk.
How about showing you can walk the walk?
Come on fellow yellows, let's raise lots of money for two very worthwhile causes.

Are there any bars on route, and if so do the Club get a percentage?

Are there any bars on route, and if so do the Club get a percentage? There are and they do, but I can't tell you how much So do any members of the forum want to join in to raise money for 2 great causes. The walks aren't beyond the ability of anyone who's averagely fit, look at those of us who did it last year and you'll realise that we're not all mountain goats!

I'll be doing the Cholsey route again this year.
Last year we raised close to £3,000 but with every United fan pulling together, we can beat that this year.
Its a fantastic event to be part of. 12 miles is achievable for anyone, and it really brings fans and the community together.
If you are up for the challenge, and helping raise money for the 2 worthy causes, please email the address above. You can also help by donating, or helping to fundraise at the game against Mansfield.
It's things like this that makes me so proud to support a club like Oxford United.

With the countdown mounting towards the Big Walk 2 the Yellow Army is appealing directly to fans to make an on-line donation to the cause. You can donate now – via the link below – to back two special charities and help make this Yellow Army fund raiser a great success. Every penny raised will be split 50/50 between the Oxford United Youth and Community Trust and Oxford Domestic Abuse Services. Some 40 people have signed up for the walk which consists of four different routes all taking place simultaneously and ending at the stadium ahead of the Saturday’s home game against Mansfield Town. United legend Les Philips is taking part and will be joining fans setting off from Woodstock and United’s Head coach Michael Appleton will be on hand to wave off walkers from he starting line at Thame. Yellow Army walkers will be trekking from Woodstock, Cholsey, Eynsham and Thame. Each walker is individually collecting sponsors – but to boost the fund raiser the Yellow Army is appealing to fellow fans to make a contribution on-line today. Every penny raised will help make a difference and give the hardy volunteers who have signed up to pound 12 miles on Saturday a big boost ahead of the walk. Volunteers will also be on hand with yellow buckets collecting donations at the stadium on Saturday – if you’d like to help with this please do get in touch. CLICK HERE TO DONATE

9 Oxford United Women first team players will be taking part in the walk. It's great that they have offered to take part, by supporting the fans and getting fully involved. www.yellowarmy.co.uk/uniteds-womens-team-turn-out-in-force-for-the-big-walk-2/As this is an Oxford United fans fundraiser for charity, it would be fantastic if fellow supporters would click on the link and donate. The walk is about bringing fans and the community closer together, and raising a lot of money. Thank you for the support ahead of the walk.

Thank you everyone who took part, and those who have donated so far. It was a tiring, but enjoyable 12 mile walk. It was good to meet some Oxford fans for the first time, and help raise money for 2 good causes. Thank you also to Oxford United who made the walkers guests at the game. United fans and those who represented the charity, watched the game from an executive box, and it was nice that the club acknowledged the efforts of those taking part. 9 Oxford United Women first team players took part, so a big thank you to them, and the management for supporting the Oxford United fans in our efforts to raise money for charity. Head coach Michael Appleton and chairman Darryl Eales, came to the start of the Thame walk. The walkers certainly appreciated them making the effort to come down and meet those taking part. Chris Williams was also there, and did some filming for Yellow Player. It was a fantastic day. We won 3-0 after the first Big Walk, so to win 3-0 after the 2nd one, made it even better. A great effort by the fans. If you would like to donate, you can do so here www.yellowarmy.co.uk/back-the-yellow-army-charity-walkers-now/

As well as the thanks JL has listed above, I'd like to give a big thanks to Les Phillips. Apparently he's had two knee replacements and has a dodgy hip. He also works matchdays at the club as an ambassador, so could quite easily have said "sorry, can't do it" when he was asked if he would do the walk. But anyone who saw him play would know that he is up for a challenge, and he said yes. He made a great impression on the women from the charity that walked with him and was a great representative for the club. Thanks Les. Fans can still donate to the cause, after yesterday hopefully people are feeling generous, please give as much as you can, every penny helps. Donate here.

Was a great effort by all invovled and a real thanks to the ladies and gents from the charity who really made an effort to raise funds and take part. Once we've got all the money in we will give a final total but as I'm sure all can imagine it takes a while to get all cash in and banked.
Les was on my leg of the walk and once again the life and soul of the party. He's a great bloke and is willing to do anything to promote the club. He's doing a half marathon soon so even with his dodgy limbs that was easy for him yesterday! Good to see a win on the pitch too!
