That will be a tough one! 2-1 to the Arse...? (or 4-1, which is more likely)

The chap up front for arsenal looks lively. 3 goals already. Did he come through their youth ranks?

Pleased for welbeck always thought he'd do ok when given a chance upfront. To think 1 season of falcao is costing the same as welbeck is testament to how bad man utd,s transfer policy is. Should of kept welbeck and bought a defender with the falcao money !!

I never thought I'd hear the words Danny Welbeck, scoring and hat trick in the same sentence.

Pretty appalling behavior by their fans. I don't imagine they will get too much punishment though as there tends to be a lax attitude to that sort of thing. The reality is that they could have killed someone. Very responsible reaction though by sneidjer to try and calm things down.
Shouldn't be forgotten arsenal and galatasary have some history following the running battles in Copenhagen for the uefa cup final. There were a few standings then and this was just a few weeks after the infamous Leeds incident
Wellbeck is fast

Delighted Welbeck played the way he did, my feelings on him are well known. Think he's the makings of a top top centre forward. Great move for him. Mistake by man utd. Credit to Wenger as well. Down to bare bones in midfield in terms of defensive midfielders so thought, bugger it, let's just attack!
Wouldn't recommend playing that way Sunday mind but tonight, added with the Turks playing a dreadful 3 centre halfs Arsenal were superb.

Question without Google. Who is the only Englishman to score 5 goals in a Champions league/European cup game.

Took his goals well although the defending was non existent. I don't think though that there should be this hysterical clamour every time Welbeck scores a goal. I think he has scored in two appearances. Once at Villa and last night. I think it's five games where he hasn't scored and in those games has missed two one on ones and mis-kicked from two yards out. He's a good player, yes, but I'm in the Louis van Gaal camp - he just doesn't take enough chances.

Playing down the middle seems to suit him. Remember Henry was a winger who started very well at Monaco, then stalled at Juve. He was played centrally at Arsenal and the rest is history. I'm not saying that Welbeck will eclipse him, but given an extended run in a side that will create plenty of chances, and who have been crying out for a player like Welbeck, quick, strong, direct, hard working, then I think he'll score more at Arsenal than he would have if he'd stayed at Man Utd. Facts alert: Total so far for Arsenal: 5 appearances, 4 goals, 1 assist.

I took a fair bit of flak a while back through rating Welbeck highly, so I'm feeling pleased for the lad and happy my judgement has been vindicated. I should imagine there's some unease in the corridors of power at Old Trafford.
Good luck to Welbeck for the future with the Gooners and England.

Man U are clearly a huge club - yes, we know they're not in CL this season (yawn...) - and have obvious aspirations to clear the decks and reinstate themselves to where they should be. You really think they are panicking because they've let Welbeck go ? Di Maria has nabbed the wide attacking berth Welbeck had at OT and Rooney, RVP and Falcao are clearly ahead of him. All one in two career strike rates. Welbeck is a good player but Man U panicking ? Please !!......... Why weren't Real, Barcelona or Bayern in for Welbeck ?

Welbecks stock rose the day he left OT. On the Sunday he was shit and couldn't hit a barn door. By 10.59pm on the Monday he was a superstar striker and the catalyst that will fire Arsenal to greatness and singlehandedly become the saviour of the England national side.
It was bizarre and sums up the huge swell of anti Man Utd feeling there is in this country. That's what its about, its not about the player himself.

I think that many thought that he was being played out of position and had potential that was not being utilised. His stock rose when he played for England and scored the 2 goals. With Sturridge unfit, then England looked very short upfront, but Wellbeck had an excellent game and scored the goals. It will be interesting to see how well he does. I think that at one stage you suggested that Wellbeck could be worth huge money? He has started brightly at Arsenal and it looks like he will get further games in his preferred position for England next week.

When he was at Man Utd it was clear that he wasn't scoring enough goals, but then he wasn't being played as centre forward. Most of the negativity on here towards him was a reaction to your claim that he was a £50m player. He's not that, but he was a decent player. He's gone to Arsenal and played 5 games and scored in 2 of them. So he's not scored in 3 (not 4 as you are claiming). Falcao has yet to score in his 3 games for Man Utd. Does that mean he's firing blanks or that he's not started brightly? No. 3 games and no goals is too soon to make any claims about him. Same as 5 games and 4 goals is too soon to claim greatness for Welbeck, not that anyone is. So has he started brightly. Well yes, I think it's fair to say he has.

I find some of it nauseous more than farcical, with little 'sub-plots' and hidden agenda's. Like any other thread, once it becomes tedious and a battle ground for cyber warriors- I just ignore.
Just had to pan back to see what the OP was! Which shows either my memory is getting worse- or the hijacking has been a success.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I have no idea why Man Utd have been brought into this thread, because a) it's about Arsenal and b) it's about the Champions League. These are two topics which do not concern Man Utd fans.
