Just another take, East Germany (despite everything that was bad over there) had quite a good one. It came from a good heart, but the country it was made for obviously failed.
Greece/Cyprus is a good one that can be sung with vigour and enthusiasm too.
The Star-Spangled Banner (if sung right) can make you sit up and take notice.
Look to DeroVolk on YouTube for all your nationalist needs.

Greece/Cyprus is a good one that can be sung with vigour and enthusiasm too. Being separate countries I doubt they share an anthem, Due to the large Greek population they do. It's called Ὕμνος εἰς τὴν Ἐλευθερίαν" and it's quite a catchy tune.

The Russian one and the old East German one are clear winners.

The Russian one and the old East German one are clear winners. They are both good anthems for different reasons. The Russian one is quite intimidating, with the old version having the rather dramatically ironic "unbreakable union of freeborn republics" as it's opening line. I take it the new lyrics are about peace and democracy and similar.

Flower of Scotland can give even non-jocks goosebumps. The national anthem of Scotland and Wales is God Save The Queen. Flower of Scotland is a racist song. If the English had a national anthem and it regaled the glories of Waterloo and Trafalgar,it would have been banned years ago. (the French have been trying for years to ban the name Waterloo station)

Bit jealous of the Welsh and Scottish ones to be honest, England could do with something catchy to sing before the football. GSTQ is dire as anthems go. We should switch to Jerusalem if you ask me.

I agree. We need to remember that we are England and not UK Central. The Scottish referendum showed this too

Excuse me. I am Northumberland, never England, never Scotland.
BTW, you were right about Greece & Greek Cyprus sharing the anthem. Live and learn, eh?

Well we used it in the Commonwealth games and in cricket, so Jerusalem is my favourite. Out of the official national anthems though, I quite like the German, French and Russian national anthems.
Oh and then there is little interpretation of a well known national anthem...

Our national anthem is so recognisable around the world, If the jocks want to sing about a thistle then that's there choice and if the Taffs want to sing about their Dads( sounds a bit incestuous to me ) then that's their pride, GOD SAVE THE QUEEN c'mon ENGLAND

God Save The Queen is a fantastic national anthem I don't agree at all. Much of it is about the monarch rather than the country and the tune is plodding and dreary. Any emotional attachment I have for it (and it does stir the blood occasionally) is simply because of repetition and tradition rather than because of the anthem itself. Jerusalem is a better tune, but old Bill Blake's words are a bit god-heavy for these more secular times. Land of hope and glory is better over all, but the lyrics tend towards the imperialist in places. Anarchy in the UK for me!

God save the Queen is awful. The words "God save the Queen" says it all really, I mean straight away that sentance. How can you take it seriously?
I just wish we could have one that everyone was proud to absolutely belt out, like all the South Americans in the world cup.

Not sure you really need to be a leftie to be sceptical about religion or monarchy but why is it great that the national anthem is divisive? Its supposed to be for everyone. And its a lot more than some who dont like it. Hardly anyone sings it with passion because the words are ridiculous.
