Not to many Wolves first team regulars then - only Kevin Foley, Leon Clarke & Karl Henry perhaps although I have heard of the striker Gareth McAlinden.

And it's Liam, not Gareth McAlinden. Out of their starting 11 tonight, only James Henry will be a regular for them next season I'd have thought.

It was good to see a team in gold and black again! Surprised there is any much negativity after last night. Oxford played good football, with width, one touch passing, and a load of Oxfordshire boys on the pitch being given plenty of confidence by the management. What's not to like? Yes, we are short of attacking power, but we all - Appleton foremost - know that, and he is committed to changing it. After years of watching clogging journeymen, with young players screamed at for even trying something better than long ball, I for one am just delighted to see a coaching bench who actually want to see the same football that I want to see. I bumped into Appleton in Stadhampton the other evening, and introduced myself (not that he'd know who I am from adam). Couldn't have been more pleasant. A startling contrast with at least one of his predecessors. Unless I'm very much mistaken, his air of positivity and courtesy will have an excellent effect on the young players. Rome wasn't built in a day, and clearly we need strengthening, and yes, I agree, there will probably be days when some bunch of thugs succeed in kicking us off the park, but my instinct is that this is the best bunch we've had managing the club in a very, very long time. Far be it from me to tell anyone else what to do, but if we can't get behind a young boss who clearly believes in playing football the traditional Oxford way, and is clearly well prepared to give youngsters their heads, we arguably deserve more of what we've suffered the last 15 years.

Good post, but I think you have put this post against the wrong quote of mine. I was genuinely nostalgic about the gold and black days.

Agree with all of the above. Yes, it's frustrating not presently having a cutting edge, but the management are aware, and hopefully will sort it. Don't forget, it's not their fault that our squad was so threadbare when they took over. There is definitely a change in playing style, which may just come from the freedom of expression that Charlie alludes to.

Excellent post. The proof of the pudding of course will be in the eating and MAPP has to secure a couple of quality forward players and the get some success along the more pleasing football I have no doubt that we will play. Agree totally regarding the younger players. I am sure that they will prefer playing for MAPP and sure also that if they get in the team they will deserve to.
