I'm sure we're all starting to wonder why Appleton can't attract players to OUFC We can only speculate but I'd guess that the following are all reasons why players haven't:
- The takeover: Players are waiting to ensure the club is in safe and stable hands.
- The takeover 2: The funds that are needed to increase the budget haven't yet been received into the club's bank accounts so we can't yet offer competitive wages.
The takeover 3: Happened too late. All the good players were snapped up.
- Appleton doesn't know league 2. He seems to be targeting players that will only drop down to league 2 as a last resort. Doesn't know good realistic league 2 targets.
- Mark Ashton: His reputation precedes him, perhaps putting people off from dealing with him. May lack decent negotiation skills.
All speculation but something has to be stopping the club fron attracting players. There's only 3 weeks until the season starts, time for this new lot to deliver.

Or we've made offers to several and were waiting to hear back. As well as identifying others possibilities if they don't come about !

It would be good if the OxVox committee raised this topic at tonight's meeting.
As nearly a fortnight ago we were told that it was hoped we'd sign three or four players in the next few days, or words to that effect (and have so far signed just one), there's something of a credibility issue developing here.

Oh great! another thread on no signings, just what i was looking for... to think that there are no new players coming, when we only have one full experienced striker is just ridiculous, there are plenty of players still out there without a club and there not just the ones that no one else wants, they could be ones that are leaving there options.
there will be more signings and no matter how much you speculate, i doubt you will ever know the real reason, so why get all worked up on maybes...

Why can't our fans have more patience? Maybe prospective players have a look at fans forums to see how long it takes to sharpen our knives. Approx 10 working days.

We have made players offers and now need to play the waiting game on them. If they drag it on too long the club will move on to other players.

Actually he said we need to sign 3-4 hopefully 1 if not 2 could be in by the weekend. He then said 1 was becoming frustrating . So nothing has changed apart from now needing another 1. Nice rearranging of the statement though

Let's be honest we are all frustrated how this non event summer has been, the new owners/management team have come in & identified what's need but time is getting closer to the season starting, It's no fault of the new ownership how this summers gone,
my frustration would be how long was this offer on the table before IL accepted it if it was months then why wasn't something done sooner then everything would be in place for the start of pre season

A couple of decent signings and everything will look a whole lot better. Until someone questions how much they cost

Nice rearranging of the statement though Fair comment up to a point, oufcyellows. In fact what Appleton said, as reported on the Oxford Mail site on the 11th of this month was: “There’s an opportunity that certainly one might be in before the weekend, but the likelihood is early next week [i.e. week beginning Monday the 14th] when instead of just being one it might be two or three.” So you can't disagree that things haven't quite worked out as he, and we, hoped. But I'm genuinely prepared to accept others' assurances that everything will work out fine in the end.

You've missed out the most likely option. The one that MApp has said in the press. - Agents know about the takeover and therefore think we are flush with cash and asking for over the odds wages.

That would certainly make sense.
