Before the takeover I was convinced the scenario was that we would wait until all the good players were taken and then try to sign the best of what ever was left on the cheap. From the little evidence available it seem that WAS the case.
With the takeover I thought that was done and that a new era was on the horizon. The longer time goes on the more I am tending back towards the original scenario.
Please let me be wrong!!!!!!!!!

Hasn't Appleton already stated that we will do more business in January window? Can't see us getting any big names in just yet

Keith Andrews would be one hell of a signing. He would score a LOT of goals from midfield and would be the best scoring midfielder since Matt Murphy. Forget his record at the top level, he would be player of the season in L2. Not quite had the career of Whitehead, but is not miles behind. This signing would leave us a striker or two short, but closer to meaning business. Agree that Andrews would be a quality player for us but he is at a Championship club in Bolton with a year on his contract remaining. His wages would be huge, surely, and only recently Huddersfield Town were reported to be unable to accommodate his salary after expressing an interest in signing him.

Lets get this in order. Why are people knocking Lenegan? He was a pair of hands and did not leave us in the s**t. Are some so called fans forgetting Maxwell and Kassam? Wake up!!!! It has set a base for our future which is now entering the next phase. Keith Andrews would be one hell of a signing. You forgot to mention that he's left the club with a £8 million debt, any longer with him as owner I have no doubt he would of left us exactly where he found us back in 2006 fighting another relegation battle (& we all knew what happened)

'Keeper Schwan Jalal signed for Bury earlier in the summer. As for Tyrone Barnett he has two years left on his Peterborough contract and they are looking to get rid. Must be on very decent money at Posh. He is not available for loan apparently. Trawling through parts of the BBC Sport website (on a very boring train journey) Peter Brezovan (spelling) has been released by Brighton and is free agent. 34 years old, safe pair of hands?

Can't see us getting any big names in just yet That's a risky strategy but probably a sensible one under the circumstances, as any player released/free agent available now hasn’t done much pre-season training and therefore likely to be unfit.

I've jusy had a mate txt me to say that midfielder Keith Andrews is on trial with a team at Bisham Abbey. Ex Ipswich etc, didn't he play on loan for us at one stage? NI international at one stage I think. I'm putting 2 and 2 together and assuming he's turning out for us in whatever practice games we've arranged there, but equally he could be playing for the opposition against us. HH Going to Watford according to twitter - twitter.com/SkySportsPeteO

We would have been a lot worse if he had not tightened the purse strings. When the Woodstock group took over we were in freefall, and only a substantial investment to purchase a stadium would have potentially reversed the losses. We should appreciate the what they have done for the club, we are not a money making machine, even if we have the potential it is a long way off. This however would have left us in crippling debt without the attendances to pay for it. We would have been lucky to pay the interest! Just remember where we were. Hopefully this new consortium will buy a stadium and keep the debt interest free while it pays for itself . A question worth asking I think, rather than just allowing the new group to throw into the dark days of being threatened with liquidation.

Interesting. Ex-Swindon and Brighton shot stopper Peter Brezovan is a good goalkeeper. 6 ft 6" tall which certainly helps.

I seem to recall that in one of the first Radox interviews after the revolution, in response to a question about player acquisition, our new Chief Exec said that the phone was "red hot". I take comfort from knowing that I am not the only person getting calls from oriental gentlemen claiming to be from the "Windows Division of Microsoft" and offering to fix problems with my computer...

Hopefully this new consortium will buy a stadium and keep the debt interest free while it pays for itself . A question worth asking I think, rather than just allowing the new group to throw into the dark days of being threatened with liquidation. Really I think would disagree. While we can give credit to IL for supporting the youth policy in most other respects he has failed. When the Woodstock group took over we only had 2 million debt and losses were much less than at any time since. The football club was on average a mid table league to side (having a poor season). Behind the scenes cuts had made the club uncompetitive and unprofessional, and the fanbase were very unhappy. Fast forward to when IL left we are in 8 million or so debt losses are now nearly a million a year. The club is an average league 2 side (with the cuts he had put in place this season is there was a very good chance we would be having a poor season). Behind the scenes tthe youth system is now very good but the first team and recruitment was still unprofessional. Plus yes the fanbase is unhappy. Ask yourself this question just what this season would have been with IL still in charge. We would have had the same squad as now (only 2 new players) obviously the budget had been slashed. Season ticket sales are down by a third so there is every chance attendances would have fallen and thus losses would have been as big again. IL was better than Kassam in some ways but he clearly did not have the resources or the skills required to turn this club around. I actually think we owe IL very little thanks for what he has done, I fear that his legacy this season may still be holding us back. But what's done is done. I have no idea about the new chaps their plans and their finances, but I hope to heck they are a lot better than IL.

When Woodstock took over, did they not take a lease on that cost the club 500k a year in rent, plus of course later they funded the underpaid rent and some of Merry's borrowings from people that IL knew nothing about?
Football is a hard sport to break even on and IL running a tight ship has proved that. IL has done much good work but the mens team is something he couldn't crack and will be the shadow on his time as Chairman.

Have to say it is becoming worrying now with no news on signings. Go back a week and a bit and we were told 3 were imminent. Clearly one of those was Collins.
But since then Kitson has gone. That means we have lost 8 (EIGHT) senior players to be replaced by 2 in Hylton and Collins.
A major overhaul of the squad with 3 weeks before the start of the season?
That's a tough ask.
Of most concern is the dearth of pace in the squad. There is none. That must be a priority. Williams, for me, will be a big, big miss.
It would be reasonable to expect Constable, Smalley and Connolly to be replaced, so two strikers (Hylton covers one).

THINGS ARE HAPPENING AT LAST!
Looks like Ashley Grimes and George Long to sign soon, it seems we're playing a waiting game on Gillet, if that comes off and then a couple of decent loanees we might be able to stay in contention until the January window when Appleton and Ashton have had a chance to scout and put in place what they want.
Feeling a little bit more optimistic now!
