Won't there? Starting to get slightly nervous, the start of the season is only 3 weeks away now and the Wilder/Waddock squad Appleton has inherited just isn't capable of promotion. It's all well and good waiting for the right players but if they're free agents we need to get them fit to get a fast start.
Hopefully Appleton's quotes of signings this week are accurate. My 'bloke in the pub' says there'll be one signing for sure this week but I'm hoping for 3 so they can start gelling.

About time we had a new thread about new signings!
I'm going to guess at two signings this week. Based on zero intelligence - just an inkling.

He did say offers were in with players and agents just waiting for decisions

I'm pretty sure we'll sign Liam Roberts, the young keeper from Walsall, or a different keeper. And maybe one more? No inside info, just a guess

I think we should be patient at the start of this season. I think we should not be judging Mapp to quickly and may have to realise that an promotion chasing start may be beyond us initially. We need to remember a lot of damage was done by IL at the start of this window with his penny pinching. Plus now it sounds like the whole recruitment process under IL was a shambles.
We have missed out on many of the good players in this league and they have gone to strengthen our opposition. I think Mapp has his work cut out trying to find the players he needs at this time.
I would be happy if we can bring in a few more faces (certainly a striker is a must) that will keep us in touch until Jan. By then hopefully the club can then be restructured into something a lot more professional and some real strengthening can happen to give us the ability to finish the season strongly.
A few weeks ago I was worried about us fighting a relegation battle and I am convinced under IL that would have been the case. Now I am hopeful for the future however I do understand Rome was not built in a day.

I'm 99% sure we will see at least one, more likely two brought in. No knowledge, just what Appleton has been saying etc. makes me think one or two are close.

more people on the payroll off the pitch yet a very thin squad does not seem to concern some, it's been going to be today, tomorrow, this week for a while now. Rumour of our most gifted player on his way out to the bizarre delight of many and apparently also delighted at the appointment of 2 average players.

With the right manager ( Appleton ) and right formation/tactics we still have a solid back line arguably a better midfield and some very promising young players pushing for starting places. Have you watch any pre season games? I know it was only Didcot but the fluency and movement of the three behind the main striker was very impressive. I wouldn't hesitate to start O'Dowda with Potter and Kitson? Behind a striker. Yes we still need another CF but if that was our only other addition it wouldn't be the end of the world.

The lack of team recruitment definitely concerns me!
Investing monies in extra non playing staff more chiefs and not enough soldiers seems bizarre.
In my view the minimum in order to be competitive, the squad needs a back up goalie, 2 forwards a winger and a play maker in midfield.
Action now!

Action now!Just because there hasn't been enough playing staff recruitment doesn't mean that the backroom team is not required. There's more than enough money to bring in both. A secure football club has a secure behind the scenes team, and it seems like after years of very little, we're getting something beneficial for the long term future of the football club. We will bring in players, no need to panic.

Read on Sky Sports.com that some defender from Birmingham (Jack Dearman?) turned us down to join Cheltenham.
Can anyone think what could have been the reason for that?

Obviously someone at the club does.
Is there a decent non league striker about we could entice?
Getting to the stage where almost anyone we sign now would be welcome - subject to the usual caveats, of course!

Anything that happens to this club under current stewardship you will criticise. It's basically trolling. Collins an average player eh? And nothing positive about the new off-field structure that we have desperately needed in recent years? Where is the ignore button?

Totally disagree. better to wait a week or tow and get a couple of quality players than sign anyone.

Not possible to have a different take on things to others then without having an agenda? if you bothered to read properly it was obvious that i was referring to average players compared to kitson, you may not agree and that is allowed you know. I travel a fair distance for home games, spending alot of money with 2 other family members. i stated towards the end of last season that it was getting harder to motivate myself to keep going to watch dull negative football when as a family man the leisure pound has to be spent wisely. if i am to part with the thick end of £800 then i was hoping for some positive improvements on the pitch and as yet i have not seen or heard anything that makes that look likely as things stand...The new appointments off the pitch are positive moves but you still need enough decent players for them to coach to be able to compete. I'm sorry if my blind loyalty has to take a backward step and i'm not throwing more money at it just yet but this time the product needs selling to me and as i've said earlier a product with missing parts is not an attractive one. So no agenda, no hatred of the new owners or any such nonsense, just a concerned fan looking for a tad value for his expenditure.

I don't have a huge distance to travel but have found myself having to travel on my own as others have drifted away. I've still not got my ST but recent events have made me more positive and a very impressive 60 mins against Didcot for what was really a youth side has certainly pushed me more towards getting my ST renewed. I know we've on paper not improved our squad but on last seasons performances of Rigg, Smalley etc I would say Collins plus the youth couldn't do any worse. Plus we have a manager who wants to play football. If you can I would encourage you to get to one of the pre season games and I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how different our team looks even if vastly the same players.

If you can I would encourage you to get to one of the pre season games and I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how different our team looks even if vastly the same players. I think it's asking a bit much for people to be enthused by narrow victories against Calor Southern opposition! Or even Conference South opposition. The reality is that we have lost six senior players, and they need to be replaced by improvements. That will then constitute a better side. Thus far: Constable/ Hylton: jury out, but Beano was very poor the second half of last season Scott Davies/ Collins: surely an improvement Ryan Williams Sean Rigg Deane Smalley Hall/Wroe So, to improve on our squad last season we need to improve on those remaining 4 players. These 4 players constitute the increase in budget that I believe Darryl Eales talked about when he came in. The problem is that those are expensive positions, and I suspect that Mapp is finding that it's hard to stretch his budget to bring in 30/40 goals. If he's offering 60/70 k a player a lot of agents will be trying to get more elsewhere. It may be that we have to wait to see what is left, with a week to go before the start of the season, and bring in our last couple of players then.
