It's unbelievable - he is a moron and presumably picks up a large salary for saying the same rubbish every match.
I've never met one person who has liked his co-commentaries.
I'd rather have a decent football writer or someone knowledgable like Michael Cox from Zonal Marking providing analysis than most of the clowns on TV.
Don't mind Alan Smith and Gary Neville but I'm struggling to think of others who don't cause me to mute the TV more often than not.

Chiles is the worst of the bunch. Dithering fool.
Although Townsend is dreadful.
I like Lee Dixon though.

Never understood why Matt Smith doesnt get the main ITV role, he's infinietly better than Chiles.
I like Dixon too and Hoddle and given what a neanderthal Keown looks and played like, I find him very good on the BBC earlier today as well (unlike rio)

Strachan, Dixon and Hoddle are good pundits. Everything else on ITV is utter gash.

Townsend commentating on the England Uruguay match. "Uruguay are certainly playing with more energy and at a higher tempo than they did against Chile" I looked at the clock on the screen, 2 minutes 33 seconds!

I like Dixon too and Hoddle and given what a neanderthal Keown looks and played like, I find him very good on the BBC earlier today as well (unlike rio) Matt Smith?! The guy speaks in Haikus and freeform poetry. Listen carefully next time he’s on and count his weird use of pauses and clauses. It makes for difficult listening. ‘So, coming up After the break will be the rest Of Germany versus Algeria. We will, of Course, have the views of Lee, Glenn and Gordon here in The Studio. See you in a Moment.’ You can do a quick scout around on the internet and find forums and message boards full of ire for every pundit imaginable. One I found called Clarke Carlisle ‘superb’; another stated ‘why on earth is he there?’ Swings and roundabouts seemingly. Townsend is very much a ‘Catchphrase’ pundit and ‘says what he sees’ which is particularly inane, but not really worth getting too annoyed about. Robbie Savage trying to become the outspoken, I-say-what-I-like-and-I-like-what-I-say Geoffrey Boycott of football and Mark Lawrenson saying his rubbish jokes are two of the most irritating aspects of the Beebs coverage this year. That said, does anyone really listen to the halftime analysis? I tend to find myself making a tea or checking emails or something until the second half starts! I think the only thing that most agree on is that Gary Neville is by far the best former player pundit out there.

Hoddle calling Algeria Al Jazeera made me laugh last night.
I think ITV are just having a bit of banter with everyone, just on the wind up. Chiles and Townsend are so bad that I now enjoy listening to them. Many a dull England game has been brightened up by their comical ramblings.
The sweating incident during the thunder and lightening break during the Honduras game was comical.
Sky just destroy them with analysis and commentating. I suppose that's repetition and practice though.

Sky are a class above with Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp.
I think Sam Matterface is a very good commentator. Phil Neville is another one who clearly knows his stuff, just the mono tone voice makes him dull!
I had to laugh at Townsend when Sturridge had the ball kicked at him in a friendly. Townsend saying he wouldn't of been able to hold back, the guy couldn't fight his way out of wet paper bag!

Saying stuff like 'Michael Owen was literally a greyhound when he was 18' doesn't make your argument stronger!

Boycott is an arrogant, opinionated, stubborn Yorkshireman who only likes the game to be played one way - which is the way he played it. But at least he backs up his mumblings with some reason and logic, does have a track record to back up his opinions, and does have a sense of humour. Savage is a shrill, thick, illogical, hyper-annoying fool - who was a second rate player, but a first rate self-publicist. Noone in either of the World Cup broadcast teams comes even close to making me want to stick a foot through my TV as much as him. But Gloom-and-Doom Lawrenson would be second. Seriously, if they want someone to be dour and miserable about everything, then Mick McCarthy was much funnier whilst doing it.

Lee Dixon just put Chiles in his place.
Chiles - 'next goal wins then?'
Dixon - 'well no (if Colombia score) it'll be a draw'
