Why is it only every 4 years? Should be 2

Continuing my World Cup goal watch.......
That's now 41 in 12 games. And - best stat of all - only one goalless half.
Have a sneaking suspicion, though, that Nigeria & Iran might ruin things. Smells like a bore draw to me.......

The first truly awful game of football.
Lucky for you that Iran aren't coming up against Greece.

Agreed. Though perhaps they only really started having a go after they realised Nigeria couldn't hit a goal with a cow's banjo. On balance I think I'd rather watch Nigeria play Grease than watch Iran play them. Neither is a particularly enticing prospect.

Nigeria were the real disappointment of that game. Iran are a bit like this year's New Zealand - hopelessly outclassed by just about everyone on the talent front, but with an excellent coach who is going to have them hyper-organised. Defend well and hope to nick a set piece goal is going to be their mantra. Nigeria aren't much better. When I saw that their main creative hopes were Jon Obi Mikel and Victor Moses, I quickly pencilled that game in as a 0-0 in my predictor!

World Cup 2014 awesomeness update......
I reckon that's now 94 goals in 32 games - a shade under 3 goals per game, which is comfortably more than any tournament since they expanded to 32 teams. On top of that, there's been the prerequisite suprise teams, disappointments, variable refereeing, idiotic red cards and bags of late drama. Basically, it's been great watching so far unless your enjoyment of a World Cup is dependent on how England do......
However, a truly great World Cup is always defined by how many classic matches it produces at the sharp end of the tournament.
Japan/South Korea had a great group stage, only for the tournament to be let down by an insipid (and biased) knockout phase where almost noone attacked (points for anyone who can name the only team to score 3 goals in a single game during that knockout phase). Let's hope the teams keep up their attacking, gung-ho attitude (and slightly ropey defending) in 2014 when things get really serious.

England vs Denmark, wasn't it? 3-0 to England, unless this is some sort of trick question as England strictly speaking only scored two with the other being an own goal. Loving the World Cup so far and - less face it - it's what has been needed for all of the controversies, FIFA behaviour and protests beforehand. Thrilled to see how the groups end up shaping out and I'll be willing a few teams through for either qualification for the knock outs or favourable draws (Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica) and hoping that others drop out (Germany - who looked utterly shagged in the heat against Ghana and the very dull Belgians who I'm now bored of). Here's hoping the fun continues.

3 points for Unification! I thought in the current climate, people might not remember that England did play at least one good game this millenium.
Would love to see Ghana qualify - they're a really dynamic, fun side to watch - but my fiance is American therefore I'm in a bit of trouble if I cheer for them too loudly. Hoping for a Group G miracle where the Germans get beaten by the US, and Ghana thump the Portugese (who are frankly asking for it with their current defending).
Nigerian to beat Argentina, and leave Messi & co. to a beating at the hands of the (annoyingly, but impressively) rampant French would be high on the list as well......
In the meantime, looking forward to Croatia vs. Mexico tonight. Both teams have looked pretty good, so it should be tight to begin with, although it will have to open up towards the end as one side or the other gets desperate......

Anybody else massively impressed with USA? Watched the majority of their game yesterday and they were brilliant. Real team togetherness as well.
Hope they get the point needed to go through. They could be a force in years to come.

I have been very impressed with the USA under Klinsmann. They are fit and strong and unbelievably committed.
Do they have 5 Germans playing for them?

I will be truly shocked if USA against Germany isn't a draw.

They have 4 members of the squad (Jones, Brooks, Johnson, Chandler) who were born in Germany - all of them are US Army brats, with American serviceman Dads and German mothers. A 5th (Julian Green, who hasn't yet played) was born in the US but moved back to Germany with his German Mum at a young age.
